I always found these No.2 hits to be pretty boring, but all in all a few good songs actually ended up in the finale. great: 5 ok: 8 no matter: 4 crappy: 8

    Art For Death's Sake

Local obit so far for Laurence Broderick: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/sculptor-who-gave-birmingham-bullring-29057481 I mean, that bull is in the top 10 public sculptures in the UK (once you discount all the slave owners)! Come on Nationals!

    Dead Pop Stars

I was just referring to their original lineup and their hit "Go Now".

I only use Facebook for the local community pages (although they can occasionally get quite toxic ) It's a useful communication tool. Also for following certain organisations, musicians, events and the like.

I signed up for it years ago at the suggestion of my remote family, the majority of whom now post very infrequently. I use it now for comparing wordle scores with a friend and the occasional FB memory of when it used to be 'fun'. But the lack of discernment, absolutely agree - one of my 'friends' posted news of an ATM scam - from 2013; another reposts all these 'lost dog' announcements which are all probably a similar vintage and originated in Vermont or somewhere similarly distant!

Most of my friends have stopped using Facebook in the last 3 years. I have valid reasons to stay on there, but avoid it when I can. Has everyone lost the skills of media literacy and discernment? People will see an image of a poor African child eating a Lamborghini Murcielago made out of a 5-metre wide watermelon, and think "wow, this image is definitely not AI-generated, that boy must be a talented watermelon sculptor, I must comment "amen" and pray for him".

    Rupaul And Other Drag Queens

BBC and ITV obits for Miss Jason. Suspected this might be the case as he was widely loved. Still, wasn't really my cuppa. If I was in a pub and he was on a stage I'd politely watch and sing along but his act was showtunes, which is not really my thing. I much prefer the drag acts that do dark comedy or 70s/80s/90s jukebox.

    Hospitalised!

Manolis Mavrommatis suffers gallbladder infection, undergoes percutaneous cholecystostomy. Currently expected to be discharged in around two weeks, it seems.

    Shirley MacLaine

I like this photo. Shirley Maclaine with younger brother Warren Beatty in 1942. Looking online, a lot of people seem to be unaware and shocked to find out that they're siblings. They had quite a rocky relationship, and didn't Maclaine infamously say something really stupid (and a bit creepy) saying that the worst thing about being Warren Beatty's sister was that she couldn't sleep with him? I don't know why I have that stuck in my head. Maybe someone else can clarify what it was she actually said.

    Shirley MacLaine

I think you're being kind for the sake of being kind, which is quite humble but not entirely truthful. She looks pretty bad in those pics. Needs help walking, and the face is the work of decades of heavy drinking and smoking, not just "the lack of botox".

Facebook really is a horror show (more than it ever was previously).

    Dead Pop Stars

I would argue that in the case of the Moody Blues, the original lineup doesn't really matter as much as it's not its iconic lineup (unlike say The Allman Brothers Band). Denny Laine (guitar) and Clint Warwick (bass) were only there for little over 2 years (May 1964 – July 1966). Justin Hayward and John Lodge replaced them that year and remained with the group until it dissolved in 2018. They're both still alive.

Been To Any Good Gigs Lately?

I worked for Madeleine Peyroux and Jill Sobule last night. Show was sold out. The venue only holds about 360. Personally, I had never heard of Madeleine Peyroux but had heard of Jill. I was surprised that she was the support act. I don't know if it's because Madeleine's new album was only available on a USB card, and she didn't have much else in the way of merchandise. But, Jill sold 3 times more. That's probably the first time I've had the support act sell more than the headliner. Both sounded great. I have to admit, I enjoyed Jill's set more

    Time Added

BBC is on it (Charlie Hurley). Not as quick with the sculptors though!
  26. Pffft. Placeholders now have a 5-minute life span. Will write a rule (into the intro post that no sod reads)

    Shirley MacLaine

What surprise me is how these paparazzis manage to identify those aging celebs. I could pass her by in the street without even noticing it was Shirley. Same for Gene Hackman who looks more like a homeless man than a Hollywood star lately
