He said he would die before the election, and he did. Staggering example of a statesman keeping a promise in an election year.

I’ve graduated high school this past Friday, and for me I’m glad it’s over as it has largely been a negative experience for me (as such, I went to a nice dinner with my family rather than go to the actual graduation ceremony as it didn’t feel right to celebrate something that was overall bad for me). I’m just ready to move on to the next phase of my life and hope that it’s much better for me overall than my high school experience...

I guess we can confirm the 5th death of this year now: It is the guy that registers the deaths in the Deathlist.

Graduated high school today. I made a lot of memories and had a lot of fun, and I'm all up in my feels about it ending. But this is going to be a great summer. I'm going to Poland in the middle of July for a couple weeks, and in August, I might take a road trip to Canada with friends. But also gonna enjoy local lake trips and house parties in between with my friends.

I announce that after frantic research and tough decisions, I've picked a substitute of the late general Le Duc Anh as my perennial favourite. And the winner is... General Prem Tinsulanonda! Who was the good twin of evil Le Duc Anh, of course. Or maybe not so good? The general is dead, long live the general!

PEI IN THE SKY 5/50 16th May 2019 After missing out on Bob Hawke due to how late in the year he correctly predicted his own death, the crowdsource list gets another success in the form of Chinese American architect I. M. Pei. A modernist with significant cubist themes, he first gained recognition with his work on the National Center of Atmospheric Research in Colorado, which was completed in 1967. Afterwards, he completed many other important places in the US including the John F. Kennedy Library in Massachusetts, the Dallas City Hall, and the east building of the National Gallery of Art. In China, he designed the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong. His most famous work, however, was a glass-and-steel pyramid designed for the Louvre museum in Paris, which has now become a landmark of the city of Paris. He continued to work on projects throughout his life. He lived a pretty long life, with him dying at the ripe old age of 102. This is his first appearance on the list, sneaking in on the 45th spot, and I think those people complaining of a drought can be safely shut up now.

Bob's late-year Hawke-ing over his unlikelihood to see the next Australian elections meant most teams steered clear of him in the Inverse Dead Pool. 10 teams were still willing to bet he wouldn't go Down Under this year, and are now hoping the rest of their picks will put in the extra Labor to survive. =1. markb4 0 =1. Quick update to correct for a small Doris Day mistake: New hits: Quentin Pongia, Herman Wouk Bobby Joe Maxwell is a non-obit, almost certainly. No changes in the other non-obits. Also, I forgot to mention another non-obit that happened a couple of weeks ago: Bishop Francis Quinn. That's a ton of non-obits... DDT has both good news (Pongia moves him into 4th) and bad news (Donbavand non-obit) - new scoreboard: 1 Death Impends 769 2 GCReptile 725 3 Cpt Chorizo 678 4 Devon Death Trip 672 5 Phantom of the Midway 657 6 msc 623 7 Banana 621 8 Joey Russ 620 9 Clorox Bleachman 610 10 drol 571 11 Sir Creep 511 12 Skinny Kiltrunner 482 13 Grim Up North 367 14 YoungWillz 297 15 Yorkshire Banker 230 16 Prophet 186 17 markb4 172 18 theoldlady 134 18 Gooseberry Crumble 134 20 Book 129 21 The mad hatter 117 21 Fixed Business 117 23 John Key 108 24 Deathray 95 25 The old crem 93 26 Pedro 67 90 27 Grave Danger 85 28 The Unknown Man 48 29 The Quim Reaper 33 30 Bibliogryphon 0

Clearly the committee think that they know something that no one else knows - Herman Wouk is alive and well residing in the Death List offices. Either that or the committee have left earth on a trip to the far distant reaches of a black hole.

Yes, time for an update after these very busy recent days. The Hawke / Conway combo was chosen frequently, and although they only yield few points individually, the combo is nothing to sneeze at. Other hits are I.M.Pei, Brian Walden (another one of Gooseberry's left-field but successful unique hits!), Doris Day, and the now more distant hits of Le Duc Anh and Grand Duke Jean. These two were the only hits in almost 4 weeks! The jury is still out on Tommy Donbavand, Granville Coggs, Mary Stopes-Roe and Ezra Castro (Pancho Billa, who qualified because in contrast to Tyler Trent, was already notable BEFORE his terminal illness). Unfortunately, the jury seems to be in a bad mood... There was also one non-obit I hadn't noticed previously, I think, it must have been Representative Jean Price of Montana. The resulting scoreboard is this: 1 Death Impends 769 2 GCReptile 725 3 Cpt Chorizo 678 4 Phantom of the Midway 657 5 msc 623 6 Banana 621 7 Joey Russ 620 8 Clorox Bleachman 610 9 Devon Death Trip 602 10 drol 571 11 Sir Creep 511 12 Skinny Kiltrunner 412 13 Grim Up North 367 14 YoungWillz 297 15 Yorkshire Banker 230 16 Prophet 186 17 markb4 154 18 Gooseberry Crumble 134 19 Book 129 20 theoldlady 119 21 Fixed Business 117 22 The mad hatter 102 23 John Key 93 24 Deathray 92 25 Grave Danger 85 26 Pedro 67 72 27 The old crem 56 28 The Unknown Man 33 28 The Quim Reaper 33 30 Bibliogryphon 0 First reminder: The substitution period is still 6 weeks away, but maybe you can already start thinking about your 5 substitutions. UPDATE 3 1 & 2 Hits/Misses Richard Cole | 9th April | 1 team Manuel Lujan Jr | 25th April | no teams David McNee | 26th April | 1 team Doris Day | 13th May | 5 teams Tim Conway | 14th May | 13 teams Bob Hawke | 16th May | 17 teams Okay, okay... maybe all this drought talk was justified. A mere 2 teams scored points in the space of 8 weeks; Joey with Doolittle Raider Dick Cole, and Biblio with bad cop David McNee. We also had our first miss. Nobody plumped for 90-year-old politician Manuel Lujan Jr, who got a Wires/Mail obit. That was the situation until a week which has been a calamity for 3 names, among them, a shortarse and a buxom blonde. Only one of them was called Dorf, though. 19 teams pull p(o)ints and and msc climbs to the top by a whisker. The Mad Hatter scores a whopping 38 points in absentia. Another big winner is theoldlady, who soars from 15th to 5th place. Toast and Willz are off the starting line - just - leaving only the host at zero. Where he's supposed to be. Scores in full: 1. msc - 44 =2. Death Impends - 43 =2. Joey Russ - 43 4. The Mad Hatter - 42 5. theoldlady - 40 6. CaptainChorizo - 37 =7. An Fear Beag - 35 =7. Sir Creep - 35 9. Book - 30 10.
