I think it's very important always to have something to look forward to. We often see terminally ill people outliving their prognosis to see the birth of a grandchild, a wedding, Christmas or whatever. So get yourself some treats organised, Joey. A weekend away, tickets to see a band you like, sporting events, whatever you enjoy.

Fairground fucking Attraction!!! Just think, Sean and Deathray and the like are too young to know who they are, unless they google it. Lucky buggers.

I had to deal with a pikey female called Chardonnay yesterday. And she had a gold clown necklace and hoop earrings. Made me weep for humanity and feel dirty dirty at the same time.

It's a happy 100th birthday to actor and noted Esso pitchman Murray Westgate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpI1oec-2zk

OK, so Mom may have gotten the 'no middle name' thing right. Didn't realize they were such a problem. One son's middle name is Leander and the other is Royce. Both are the grandfathers' middle names.

I was reading some random article about the Commonwealth Games and was surprised to see it was written by Gerald Sinstadt, now aged 88. Apparently he's still going strong and waxing lyrical in regular contributions to The Stoke Sentinel.

My daughter's middle name is May not through lack of imagination but because it goes well with her first name, which is not common but certainly not daft. I don’t know why I bothered though because I usually just call her Bellend, Jugs or Egg.

On girly names for middle class kids I always wonder why they never thought it through: All rise for Judge Poppy! Dr Daisy will see you now! Doesn't work. I'm looking at YOU Mr Jamie Oliver. Yet another reason to have been banned from some other forums (and hiding his books in shops) but well worth it. Btw MK, there is nothing wrong with people called Rob. I know three and they are great altogether.

Darren. I’m haunted by that name. Ex husband was a Darren, my best mate is a Darren and my boss is a Darren. Best mate I just call Sis, Boss is called boss and when I see ex husband (one in a blue moon) he gets called every swear word known to the human race to his face. To be fair he probably hates the name Phil

It looks like 2018 will have huge name deaths. We already lost Billy Graham and Stephan Hawking. Barbara Bush, John McCain, Pope Benedict seems to be all locks to go as well. People like George Bush, and Kirk Douglas could easily go as well.

People are focusing too much on the hair. If she was wearing a long dark wig you wouldn't see much difference.

I've heard several reports of Cliff's back-stage antics over the years. Nothing actually illegal, at least under today's laws, mind, but he's not as squeaky clean as he's made out to be. I have zero respect for him. "Celibate", my arse. Er .... I suspect he has been 'cellibate' into the odd one or three arses Toastie.

In completely unrelated discussion has there been any updates on the health of his close friend and priest John, who'd snag a daily mail obit surely?

Illustrators? Art, I guess. Doesn't fit into the 2018 thread. Anyhow, just found out from in the know folk that Peter Edwards (1934-2017) died a year ago without fanfare, obits, or even mentions on public social media. I'm sure I posted on here in 2014 when his wife and fellow artist Gunvor died, but I can't find the post. This means all of the Railway Series artists from when the Rev Awdry was writing them are now dead. So, here are some of his reminisces about working on kids books. Quite liked their work when I was a wean. Very evocative. Anyhow, RIP, belatedly.
