I get fed up of explaining this to people, but look up the Crown Estate. George III signed over its revenues to the Treasury. Once the Royals have been paid their "wage" out of it (and only a few of them are on the payroll now), there is a lot left over for the Treasury. It was and remains a good deal for the country and its taxpayers.

Which of his 20-odd UK top 40 singles was his "one hit"? Avicii was responsible for at least two of the defining sounds of 2010s pop ("everything trying to sound like 'Levels'" and "everything trying to sound like 'Wake Me Up'"). He's hardly Rednex. (Rednex were better, but that's not the point.)

As the Birthing Pool didn't seem to go very well, I've thought of another idea. Basically, pick 20 dead 'celebrities' who died pre-1939 (i.e. World War II) and you get a point for every time they get mentioned in relation to a story on the website of a nationwide newspaper in the English language. The story has to be in some way about them as a figure, not about them peripherally (e.g. no bollocks like "what would George Washington make of Donald Trump..." blah blah blah. If the same story is taken up by multiple news sources, you still only get a single point per original news story. Something a bit different, anyway. Anyone who can get a list of 20 historical figures in before the end of April can participate and the final score will be due on 31 December 2018.

Can't say I am - though The Macc Lads are well known to me. Oddly, this is a little unfortunate timing - I just recorded a show (definitely NOT a Strange Fruit show) as a one off for Gonzo which is wall to wall with stuff we couldn't play on normal radio. Mr Shit would have been ideal for it.

There's definitely demand from me too @YoungWillzfor this fabulous eccentric deadpool so be prepared to unpack your cards and chips! Oh and I'm determined not to come last next time!

I think the album is definitely a great one though. One song in particular that I keep playing is The Lamia. That’s really such a great song, so great that I would add it to my Spring 2018 playlist... Only to remember that Spotify doesn’t have that album on Spotify. Grr. Makes it more disappointing that it’s the only Genesis album not on there...

Who's going to track the scoring on this? It's going to be a bit more demanding than just looking for a single QO.

Most people outside this site isn't aware of above mentioned musicians health issues (not everyone was exposed like Whitney) and by SHOCK I mean a huge impact on news. This thread is exclusive to superstar acts and yes Aretha is a superstar and it will fill the headlines all over the world once she dies. Avicii was a shock but not the way Amy Winehouse was. People are sad because he's young, not because he was A-list superstar. Technically he was a one hit wonder.

It says nothing about him driving from Chicago. He's from Morton, Illinois which is about a 150 miles to the South-West of Chicago.

I wonder who'll go last from this picture or who will go first after GHWB. My bets are Melania and Hillary respectively.

The vast majority of my team seem to be holding its own and not scoring in the first half of the year. The kicker, of course, is when none of them score in the second half as well...

I always thought the Fisher/Reynolds event had more to do with the sudden and shocking nature of Carrie’s death. I’m not saying George won’t go relatively soon but it may take a few months for his health to decline as he realizes he can’t live without Barbara.

HW the obvious one but I've been going for Wouk every poll this year, I'm sticking with him darnit. ...well, I guess I'm still going for HW then!

For this reason, when I quote a post containing images, I often delete them if it's not really necessary to show them again.

I think that might be only available on the computer? Cause when I post pictures from my phone, I can’t see that option...

Definitely up for this again. I enjoy the randomness of it.

Watching the first episode of Series 2, Lionel Blair has the "tributes have been paid" look about him. Old, and slightly creaky. Wont see another US President, imo. Bill Oddie looks knackered in the heat, has the old man bloat going on. So far, none are really jumping out like Shrager in Series 1 though.

Ah, that reminds me of the time I forwarded on an email from a senior executive at my work, specifically pointing out the amount of "content-free waffle" contained in his address-to-the-troops type of message. I hit send, and half a second later, realised I hadn't filled out the email address of the person I wished to forward it on to. It took approximately one Ohnosecond for it to dawn on me that I'd originally hit REPLY instead of FORWARD before adding my generous insights on the content of his email. I never did get any response, but I've since heard the term "content-free waffle" being used by some of our management team. Come the revolution, I'm gonna be first against the wall. Given that there are over 5,000 employees in the organisation I work for, I'm glad I didn't hit REPLY ALL.

Had a young woman working with me in a bar a few years ago. Not the brightest star in the sky, on one occasion, she was pouring a pint of 1664. I turned around to see her watching the glass overflow. She looked at me and said 'how do I stop it?'. We also sold eggs - she asked me how many half-a-dozen was! After she left us she got a job in a local supermarket. One night she managed to get herself locked in, setting the burglar alarm off resulting in the manager having to turn round and go back to let her out!
