PEI IN THE SKY 5/50 16th May 2019 After missing out on Bob Hawke due to how late in the year he correctly predicted his own death, the crowdsource list gets another success in the form of Chinese American architect I. M. Pei. A modernist with significant cubist themes, he first gained recognition with his work on the National Center of Atmospheric Research in Colorado, which was completed in 1967. Afterwards, he completed many other important places in the US including the John F. Kennedy Library in Massachusetts, the Dallas City Hall, and the east building of the National Gallery of Art. In China, he designed the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong. His most famous work, however, was a glass-and-steel pyramid designed for the Louvre museum in Paris, which has now become a landmark of the city of Paris. He continued to work on projects throughout his life. He lived a pretty long life, with him dying at the ripe old age of 102. This is his first appearance on the list, sneaking in on the 45th spot, and I think those people complaining of a drought can be safely shut up now.

Yes, time for an update after these very busy recent days. The Hawke / Conway combo was chosen frequently, and although they only yield few points individually, the combo is nothing to sneeze at. Other hits are I.M.Pei, Brian Walden (another one of Gooseberry's left-field but successful unique hits!), Doris Day, and the now more distant hits of Le Duc Anh and Grand Duke Jean. These two were the only hits in almost 4 weeks! The jury is still out on Tommy Donbavand, Granville Coggs, Mary Stopes-Roe and Ezra Castro (Pancho Billa, who qualified because in contrast to Tyler Trent, was already notable BEFORE his terminal illness). Unfortunately, the jury seems to be in a bad mood... There was also one non-obit I hadn't noticed previously, I think, it must have been Representative Jean Price of Montana. The resulting scoreboard is this: 1 Death Impends 769 2 GCReptile 725 3 Cpt Chorizo 678 4 Phantom of the Midway 657 5 msc 623 6 Banana 621 7 Joey Russ 620 8 Clorox Bleachman 610 9 Devon Death Trip 602 10 drol 571 11 Sir Creep 511 12 Skinny Kiltrunner 412 13 Grim Up North 367 14 YoungWillz 297 15 Yorkshire Banker 230 16 Prophet 186 17 markb4 154 18 Gooseberry Crumble 134 19 Book 129 20 theoldlady 119 21 Fixed Business 117 22 The mad hatter 102 23 John Key 93 24 Deathray 92 25 Grave Danger 85 26 Pedro 67 72 27 The old crem 56 28 The Unknown Man 33 28 The Quim Reaper 33 30 Bibliogryphon 0 First reminder: The substitution period is still 6 weeks away, but maybe you can already start thinking about your 5 substitutions. As promised in the initial post, I will not participate.

Ok. Tezza has just been making her statement following the collapse of talks on Brexit urging the hoi polloi to vote Con in the EU elections. Here it is: "Only the Conservatives can deliver Brexit." Did I miss summat? Her delivery is shocking. You know what she reminds me of? Someone's mum has been asked by the local am-dram group to deliver a few lines in their newest production. "But I've never acted before," giggle giggle "I'll do it!" Then stumbles over a few lines, smiles bravely through the awful performance and walks off to silence.

DL Con #514 — Inverness Wouldn’t be a proper DL Con if a 15-yr old single malt whisky didn’t meet its maker at half eight in the morning. Slàinte mhath! - from Boudicca and Sir Creep.

Finally, vindication for voting Wouk poll after poll after poll... Bibliogryphon gets two right in a row. Congrats as well to Drewsky, DeathClock, ThereWillBeDeaths, nejmoq, mollyafox, and CastAway. Thread closed.

I've been diagnosed with brain cancer and I don't seek treatment. I made the diagnosis. I know all about medicine because I once read a book about medicine or something like that. I fear another lobotomy may be imminent.

It would be refreshing and truthful if she had stood up and stated 'No party in the Houses of Parliament currently can deliver Brexit - not my deal and no other deal either, certainly not one acceptable to the EU'. It is so glaringly obvious to everyone that is the situation. The Brexit Party getting a gazillion MEPs will make absolutely no difference either. It's stay in or leave with no deal - it's just taking us a frigging long time to get there (and we're still doing no real planning for no deal despite that).

@WormfarmerAnd 2 more points for me and others. (For a Grand Total of 3 points. 2 points for the letter I in the first name because of the bonus rule for first names starting with A, E, I O U or Y. I am on a roll, not! :-) ) But I did triple my points in one fatal sweep....

The death of Bob Hawke takes my team Pity Da Foolz back into the Top 20. Previously in this forum I said that he was the pick I would change given the chance as he didn't make the Drop 40. Funnily enough, of my 4 picks who were not either Drop 40 or unique, 3 out of 4 of them have died (Hawke, Fatima Ali, Andrew McGahan), leaving only Fernando Ricksen. Looking around the teams I can see I am long odds of repeating last year's win. I feel like DDP's version of Leicester City. Go the Foxes.

If Norman Foster is still around in 10 years once he turns 93 or so he might be someone who could make the main list.

The Coverage of Doris's death has probably proved your point. I can't see Olivia when she sadly goes being the top story on the BBC News. Vera Lynn will through unless they is a big story that day (And Vera may well get full pages front covers.)

Hah! Jokes aside he was one of the semi-decent guys in a country with very few of them in high office.

Two Hawke-eyed late-swooping players benefit from Bob's death... Normally he would not be accompanied by any bonus, but it so happens he died on May 16, Notapotato's birthday. And so MPFC gets 20 base points plus 8 bonus for 28, and Book gets 10 base plus 4 bonus for 14.
