It's interesting what you consider to have meaning or not to people this side of the pond. This event does not mean little to us! It was (quite rightly) 24/7 news at the time and four years later we had our own version on 7/7. The world trade centre destruction was a tragedy of global importance. However, some of the names those of you stateside consider to be famous worldwide are anything but. This isn't meant to be disparaging in any way, merely an observation.

Everybody here will be able to tell you what they were doing that day. It had that much of an impact. Ditto Kennedy, the Moon landing and who shot JR. Small nation we may be but we are worldly in a way the US could only hope to be. Ok?

Actually on the last Day of the month I think one gets triple points. They way people might get extra points instead of posting too early.

Imagine how annoyed you would be if you were Welsh (1 PM who was born in Manchester) or Northern Irish.

I don't think you can complain about that, there have been quite a few so far.

Henry Herbert, 7th Earl of Carnarvon, the racing manager to Queen Elizabeth II and one of her closest personal friends, died today in 2001. I get the feeling the news wasn't reported that widely on the day.

I think these are the only living people who were a guest on more than one episode of the original GUAC run, I could be completely off. Amanda Barrie (b.1935) Wayne Sleep (1948) Honor Blackman (1925) Angela Douglas (1940)

Eye infections are so underrated. No work - too contagious. No actually feeling ill - just a bit itchy/gunky. No sod comes near you - lovely bit of peace and quiet. Glorious.

Daniel Johnston, the outsider folk artist whose childlike pleas for love captivated the likes of Kurt Cobain and Tom Waits, has died. The singer died of a heart attack. He was 58. The singer will best be remembered for his warbly, high tenor and simplistic ruminations on love and life on songs like “Life in Vain,” “True Love Will Find You in the End,” and “Walking the Cow.” Cobain wore a T-shirt repping Johnston’s Hi, How Are You album, and artists including Flaming Lips, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes, and Beck have all covered his songs. SC (edit: aye, I see Joey posted elsewhere earlier now).
