I'd just like to admit that this was *slightly* overly optimistic...

Born 19 March 1912 (108 years of age on this day I create the topic in his name). A collaborator with Alexander Fleming in the development of penicillin. Frankland taught that increased levels of cleanliness and hygiene in modern life account significantly for the rise in allergies, the so-called Hygiene Hypothesis. He has said that "We don't set off our immune system early on, we are too clean. In the former East Germany for instance, with very poor work and housing conditions, people were less allergic". I recall my own GP in Birmingham (Mary Stone) who met Frankland - telling my mother (when I was very young) to: “Let him play in the dirt it will help build his immune system”. Frankland was instrumental in the creation of the British Association of Allergists in 1948. In 1962 the Association became the British Allergy Society, and Frankland served as president between 1963 and 1966. The society became the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology (BSACI) in 1973. Frankland is a founder member and president of the International Association of Aerobiology, and president of the UK charity the Anaphylaxis Campaign. Frankland continues to publish; at age 100 he authored "100 years of allergen immunotherapy", and most recently co-authoring, "Flight Lieutenant Peach's observations on Burning Feet Syndrome in Far Eastern Prisoners of War 1942–45" in the 'Quarterly Journal of Medicine' in 2016. A person well worthy of his own topic here on DeathList. Long may he continue to live.

An absolute legend for sure, no jokes. Not sure he'll make a DL though as he is in frail health and living full time in the Charterhouse Infirmary for end of life care in London.

The far more topic-worthy name of the 1912 survivors.

Will you re-post this in his own thread?

You don't need the embed link, just the URL, and it should auto-embed. Since I'm on mobile it sometimes only pastes the plain text. If I switch to desktop view and paste the link then it works.

Chong Hon Nyan, a Malaysian politician who served in 4 consecutive cabinets, including as Minister for Health and Minister for Transport, has died aged 95. Former PM Mahathir Mohamed, who he served under, is still with us in his mid 90s of course.

Yeah, I spot a link. Italy, Spain and France have a more tactile society and frequently interact with older members of their families, even having more than two generations living under the same roof. This is something I subscribed to on an earlier post, which was ignored, because it doesn't fit the 'we are all fucking doomed' scenario. Culture, societal differences will always have an impact on how this virus spreads, if it did not then there would be no enforced isolation! Germany has always had a superb healthcare system, the elderly are very well looked after ( or they used to be when I lived there ) and, I would assume, their overall good health would make them less vulnerable to this virus than the elderly in other countries. Maybe. It is no more bollocks than some of the shite I have read, straw clutching has become a high class sport.

Apparantely he died at the end of January. How does it take so long for it to be reported ?! All his friends promised to tell the CBC right away, but he outlived them all.

Something like the French or Spanish system. To be honest I'm in favour of government food parcels over leaving it to society to figure out, as tragic as the deaths from the virus itself are I'd be more terrified of deaths due to malnutrition and societal breakdown.
