Before Spade rises we'll do a tad of quarter final show and tell, then. The Carlisle Utd vs Exeter City tie, MPFC vs DDT will see the following "talent" martialed by Maryportfuncity. If League Two is any guide (Exeter guaranteed promotion and best placed to secure the championship, Carlisle playing dead rubbers for their final two games having escaped relegation) this lot might run out plucky losers. Who knows, either way, unknown D L Cup territory for this manager and I've had a word with them! Yeah I agree, I was expecting our teams to do better, but it's hard to know in advance. Thank you, good luck is much needed! I don't really have my hopes up for May since I would need to bring my A-game to have any kind of chance and I have had only two hits after the first round. So probably this will be my last round in this year's cup, but I'm okay with that

The Ghost of Kyiv, if the media is to be believed, has died at least 10 times since the start of the war. Ukrainian military confirms that Ghost of Kyiv, as most expected, is not a real person and was a war rumor that sprung among the people and spread by the media. While Serhiy Tarabalka was a Ukrainian pilot killed in combat, it happened over a month ago. That said, I wouldn't worry - I'm sure the Ghost of Kyiv will die in the media at least 5 more times before the end of the war.

Spookily enough, I was born in Tiverton, before I withdrew even further into the hinterlands. I really can't see an electoral upset here. This is a deeply backward and insular constituency, rife with inbreeding, paganism, suspicion of change and a general disregard for the law. Hostility to the EU in mid Devon would negate the Lib Dem's chances and Labour have never thrived in this part of the world.

Novelty musician Spike Jones died on this day 57 years ago, aged 53. Jones formed the band Spike Jones and the City Slickers around 1940. Their first major hit came in 1942 with "Der Fuehrer's Face", a song mocking Adolf Hitler. Every "heil" in the song was followed by blowing a raspberry. Jones' band continued to make songs with sound effects galore. One egregious example is his 1946 song "Cocktails for Two". Jones' most recognizable song is probably 1948's "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth": Jones was an avid smoker, and died of emphysema. Posthumously, his works were prominently featured on Dr. Demento's radio show, and director Spike Jonze's pseudonym is derived from his name.

@the_engineer I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; you’re in better company shouting to the ether with Deathers, the angry friendless virgin and their deeply, deeply unsavoury friend, so how about saving all this Covid conspiracy nonsense for them? We all have our opinions and that’s fine, and it’s good to share them, right up until the point you’re at where you share a load of spiel for the purpose of creating the conflict you accuse everyone else of creating. When other people (myself included) share stuff and offer views on, say, politics, it’s fine, as it gets the likes/laughs/agreements/respectful (for the most part) disagreements. When you share the dangerous beliefs you do and it’s clear that they won’t be well-received, enlightening, entertaining, interesting or create any positive reaction whatsoever, you and only you are the problem. If you genuinely believe the vast majority of us are ignorant because we shut your shit down, that’s also fine, just leave us with our ‘ignorance‘ and either contribute to the forum in other ways or simply fuck clean off.

Singer April Stevens is 93 today. Her 1959 single Teach Me Tiger was banned by several stations for it's suggestiveness, one of the first releases to achieve that, which probably contributed to it only reaching number 86 on the Billboard chart. It's since featured in several films and TV, including Call the Midwife. Her biggest success was as part of a duet with her brother Antonio, performing as Nino Tempo & April Stevens, who reached number 1 on the Billboard chart in 1963 Deep Purple, which received a Grammy for best Rock & Roll record.

It’s amazing that June Spencer hasn’t been called up yet. She would have to meet the DL criteria, especially since she is biggest in the UK.
