GHW Bush, Bob Dole, and Billy Graham were both definitely WAY worse in their last few years than Carter is now. Carter doesn't seem as horrible now as Strom Thurmond or Bob Hope were in their last year of life.. (okay maybe Carter is frailer than Strom Thurmond but still has fewer *critical* circulatory health problems). I just looked at the PBS interview of him last year - he isn't terrible in it (tho he sounded more terrible earlier that year when he spoke of Hank Aaron's death). Edmund Fischer was less frail in the last month of his life than Carter is now (though he was fatter and may have had other health issues) People can last for years if they're frail but have no progressive/terminal illnesses (Vo Nguyen Giap was in way worse shape for like several years before his death - he was hospitalized for 4 straight years). Prince Phillip was way less frail at 99 but had terminal cardiac issues + surgeries. Carter just... doesn't get sick... (the cancer scare and the falls are different from a progressive illness like what GHW Bush or Bob Dole or Billy Graham). Carter can still make it to 100. FWIW, I currently live with someone whose physical condition seems... similar to Carter's right now. I've seen the recent decline but the person is not on death's door yet... https://academic.oup.com/ageing/article/41/6/789/13594

What other actors with a cult following born in the 20s remain? Those who spring to mind now are William Daniels (1927), Paul Dooley (1928), Earl Holliman (1928) and James Hong (1929).

Mel Blanc, one of the most famous voice actors of all time, died on this day 33 years ago, aged 81. Blanc began his career by voice acting on radio shows, which included The Jack Benny Show. Blanc joined Schlesinger Productions in 1936, and the following year, replaced Joe Dougherty as the voice of Porky Pig due to their stutter- Blanc would retain Dougherty's stutter as part of Porky's character. Blanc would also voice Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, who would soon become the mascots of the company. During World War II, Blanc would provide the voice of the character Private Snafu, in a series of cartoons produced by Warner Bros. made exclusively for the Army to help illiterate soldiers, with Snafu embodying everything a soldier should not do. Blanc's exclusive Warner Bros. contract expired in 1960, and he began to lend his voice to other companies' cartoons (while still working for WB). This included Hanna-Barbera's The Flintstones as Fred's neighbor Barney and his pet dinosaur Dino, and The Jetsons as George's boss Mr. Spacely. Blanc also turned to commercial work, becoming the first voice of Froot Loops mascot Toucan Sam. Blanc was still active in his final decade, voicing the title character of Heathcliff beginning in 1980, and reprising his roles as Bugs Bunny in Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Mr. Spacely in Jetsons: The Movie (released posthumously). Blanc died in 1989, with his last words being "I love you Noel"- directed to his son in Yosemite Sam's voice. Engraved on Blanc's tombstone is the quote his first major character is best known for:

Honestly I strongly disagree with all of you, I won’t say he looks good at all. Looks completely lost, has lost a good amount of weight if we look at the way his watch is too loose for his wrist, can’t have his legs straight anymore, his mouth open gives the impression he’s gasping for air… Even the way he’s dressed : I don’t think we’ve seen him in such a pajama-like outfit before without shoes on, which is often a sign the person isn’t able to dress herself anymore. I still think he’ll see 98 but wouldn’t be surprised if he goes right after that. Rosalynn looks awful too, she has drastically changed since the last photo I saw of her : thinner, unable to walk, grey hair and everything else

I’d say the list of living former PMs are good for another decade so it’s a record which will likely be smashed.

If you were lucky enough to live in Florida over the last couple years then maybe you just weren't able to appreciate how regressive and draconian it got almost everywhere else in the name of pseudoscience nonsense. DeSantis is seen by a large swath of this country as the one who got it right. Florida's existence pushed back against the insanity of California and New York.
