I hope you do continue. It's interesting to see people from other cultures and geopolitics. You also put in a lot of time and effort, I respect + appreciate it. Ignore the haters. When one has hatred and the desire to be miserable in their heart, they spread it on others.

Unfortunately a vocal minority of so called liberals, hated Rushdie and I've seen people say he's a racist and islamophobe. He's Indian born and converted from Islam to atheism. He has every right to be critical of something he lived and breathed. The stereotype that is loved by Islamic extremists and that is parroted by a large chunk of the left is only far right racist Tommy Robinson types criticise Islam, it's blown out the water by an Asian ex Muslim like Rushdie. It sets a precedent now ,if Islam can't be challenged and is beyond reproach and those who dare question it are met with violence now ,imagine what'll happen when it becomes more and more of a dominant force in society. Christian, atheist, gay , feminist, free speech advocates, those who appreciate religious freedom, socialists, conservatives will all be equal in an Islamist society equal in their inequality and oppression. It's not racist/fascist to critique Islam.

Updated list...up to 1932, and I've dug out a lot of new names. Nguyễn Quyết (1922) Former VP 1987-1997 and General, last living person to have held the title when it was named Deputy Chairman of the Council of State. Will be 100 in a week and seems to be in amazing health for someone his age, able to walk without aid. Nguyễn Thọ Chân (1922-2023) Labor minister 1974-1981, former ambassador to the Soviet Union and Sweden. Huỳnh Đắc Hương (1922) Major general, former Deputy Minister of Invalids and Social Affairs who has been a party member for 80 years and participates or participated in events frequently, called a "historical witness". Vũ Xuân Vinh (1923) Lt. Gen and seemingly a minor name in politics. Seems to be alive. Vũ Oanh (1924-2022) Former Politburo member. Nguyễn Quốc Thước (1926) Lt. Gen and old politburo member. Bùi Phan Kỳ (1926) Another elderly Lt. Gen Đặng Quốc Bảo (1927) Minor name once hugged by Fidel Castro. Nguyễn Thị Bình (1927) VP 1992-2002, legendary head of the Viet Cong delegation at the Paris Peace Conference. Slowly grown frailer and seems to have spent time in hospital during the last years. Trần Phương (1927) Deputy Prime Minister 1982-1987. Last of Phạm Văn Đồng's (1906-2000) Deputy Prime Ministers, wheelchairbound in April 2021, leads Hanoi's University of Business and Technology. Lê Phước Thọ (1927-2023) Old Central Committee member. Nguyễn Khánh (1928-2023) Deputy Prime Minister 1987-1997. On the original list as Nguyen Kahn. As far as I know has not made appearances in a while. Đặng Quân Thụy (1928) Former National Assembly member. Đặng Bích Hà (1928) Historian, wife of late Võ Nguyên Giáp (1911-2013) Đoàn Duy Thành (1929) Deputy Prime Minister 1987-1988, seems to be doing fine? Nguyễn Mạnh Cầm (1929) Deputy Prime Minister 1997-2002, apparently born on the same day as Doan Duy Thanh. Nguyễn Trọng Tháp (1929) Ancient minor politician and military figure. Chu Duy Kính (1930) Former National Assembly member. Frail. Phan Văn Lai (1930) Minor name. Vũ Ngọc Hải (1931) Old Central Committee member, former Energy minister. Trần Hanh (1932) Former Deputy Minister of Defence and central committee member. Đặng Văn Thân (1932-2023) Former Central Committee member. Suffered what seems to have been a severe stroke years ago. Alive?-section Cổ Kim Thành (1918) Major Quang Binh local politician. Hoàng Trà (1922-2010) Soldier, politician Trương Như Tảng (1923-2005) Once Minister of Justice in the Provisional Revolutionary Government of South Vietnam, seems to have lived in Paris later. English wikipedia says he died 2005. Nguyễn Hữu Hanh (1923) South Vietnamese minister, not to be confused with Nguyễn Hữu Hạnh (1924-2019) who only had one leg. Trần Hiếu Tâm (1925) Minor name. I won't add pictures, but there's lots of most of them on the internet. Here's Huỳnh looking dapper in his uniform:

Actually yes. They worked together a lot and, on a personal note as my sister was there, he joined the last leg of Livvy's Great Wall Of China walk for her charity (along with Didi Conn, who I'm sure I heard on the radio the other day in tears ) . My sister didn't meet ONJ as she was obviously super busy doing press, though I think did get a nod and a smile, but she did meet both Cliff and Didi Conn. My sister was also in the ONJ Wellness Centre hospital in Melbourne not so long ago (hernia op thankfully rather than cancer). Totally fan-girl squee'd out about it, took loads of photos of the entrance, walls with Livvy pics, doors with ONJ codes and kept her entrance ticket as a souvenir, not to mention asking every single person she came into contact with who worked there if they'd met Livvy - a few had; "absolutely lovely" was the overall opinion. Oh, and the food was good too! I don't think I can remember a thread where so many have expeessed such genuine sadness over a death *sniffle* I guess it's been a big death for so many of us who have grown up with her. She'll be missed.

Jeanne Calment, the person with the longest verified lifespan, died on this day 25 years ago, aged 122. Calment was born in Arles, France, and remembered meeting Vincent van Gogh at her uncle's shop. A little over a century after their encounter, she appeared in the 1990 film Vincent and Me, and is the oldest person to appear in a motion picture. Calment married her second cousin Fernand, and they had a daughter, Yvonne. Yvonne died in 1934 from pneumonia (on her 36th birthday), and Fernand died in 1942 from food poisoning. At the age of 111 (June 20, 1986), Calment became the oldest living person in France, following the death of 112-year-old Eugenie Roux. On January 11, 1988, Calment became the world's oldest living person after the death of 114-year old American Florence Knapp, a title which she would hold for 9 and a half years. On May 12, 1990, Calment reached the age of 115 years, 80 days, becoming the oldest person ever, surpassing Augusta Holtz, who died in 1986. Additionally, Calment was the first person to reach the ages of 116-119, and the only person ever so far to reach and surpass the age of 120. After Calment's death, 116-year old Canadian Marie-Louise Meilleur became the world's oldest living person, while 111-year old Marie-Helene Chanteperdrix became the oldest living French resident.
