This information is truly not interesting or necessary for every footballer death posted on this site. Just saying.

"Hospitalised in Florida with abdominal issues". Can't think of any reason why he'd need to fake a hospitalisation at this moment, so I can only assume he has mere hours to live.

I remember reading some “asking for prayers” on Diamond’s end but I thought it was some form of attention seeking given how fucking cringe that duo is.

An official record isn't kept but in December 2021, it was reported that there were less than 75. So definitely under 50. There are only two notable ones still about – Ken Potts and Lou Conter. They both turn 102 this year.

Believe it or not, I have not watched any of the Harry interviews or intend to read his book (partly because all the best bits have pretty much been on the news all week). It was on the news that I heard him moaning about how hard done by he was because the rest of the family flew off in a private jet without him when they were rushing to the Queen's bedside at Balmoral. From memory was it not the case that as the Queen was quickly slipping away, everybody was keen the get to Balmoral yet he was allegedly still arguing about how Meghan should get to come too? Did his plane not land in the UK some hours after the Queen died? It strikes me that this shows how selfish he actually is, more than anything else. It also shows how narcissistic he is. He has made the fact that they didn't wait more about him rather than the fact that the rest of them, including two of the Queen's children, were really just desperately trying to get to Balmoral before she died to be beside her. But no, he thinks they should have waited for him to finish his histrionics and for his plane to come, despite the fact that she died hours before hand. If he couldn't be there, why should they get to? In the end, of course, they were all too late to get there with the exception of those who were already in Scotland. But can you really blame the rest of the family, who had a shot at perhaps making it on time, leaving without Harry who had no hope in hell of getting there before she died? If it should transpire that Harry did cause a delay in getting the others there, I can't say I would blame them for resenting Harry. Nothing to do with the institution, but everything about being the family that he keeps going on about. Selfish, self-indulgent bastard.

And so that concludes 2022. Did a quick review to see if I missed any hits and doesn't look to be the case. All I could find was Vilma Hollingbery apparently dying in 2021 w/o QO, which would have no impact on scoring. What looked like a one-sided Book runaway for many months instead proved to be a narrow and riveting competition in the final weeks of the year, that ultimately ended up with @Banana on top. Book had an insane January, with five hits - Gary Burgess, Igor Bogdanoff, Robert Durst, Russell Bishop, and Mustafa Kayirici - exploding him up the scoreboard with an astonishing 290 points. George Perez and Susie Steiner were canon picks Book shared with the chasing pack, but other teams had the differential tools to make it a race again. gcreptile had Israel Dresner in January, Pau Riba in February, and Phil Read in October. This placed him in the position to take the lead with Vicky Phelan's November death. Banana also loomed ominously, with his noted differentials throughout the year including Dresner again, Isabel Torres, and Jean-Louis Trintignant. By the death of Julia Reichert at the beginning of December, it was a tight race with all three having plausible routes to victories. Banana had the narrowest - he needed just Pelé to die, as any other Reptile or Book hit would make it mathematically impossible for him. And we were very close to that happening with Reptile differential Gianluca Vialli dying days after the new year. It was a tightrope act, but as the fates would have it, Pelé and nowt else was exactly what happened. Though Book and Reptile made better mileage of their hits, Banana can thank his win to a superior body count - Book was 8/12, Reptile was 9/12, Banana was 11/12. Pelé's death on December 29 also makes 2022 the HPDP with the latest decisive hit, with the previous record holder Rose Marie having given yours truly the 2017 victory on December 28th. 2022 was the first year in which more than one team crossed the 400-points barrier, although the points record overall remains The Dead Cow's 425 points in 2018. I had to ponder a bit on the most interesting team. BabyBlue was a finalist for the award the year before, their team remains suitably interesting, so why not? 20 points for them. The 50 bonus points for 13th place go to DevonDeathTrip, whose eclectic perennial team had quite the good year with top-of-team regulars Francis Jackson and the Digital Nun dying early in the year, plus further hits with Norma Waterson, the Queen, and Pope Benedict XVI. And so goes the final scoreboard for 2022. Congrats to Banana! 1. Banana 420.81 2. Book 410 3. gcreptile 400.81 4. maryportfuncity 364 5. CaptainChorizo 335 6. Salmon Mousse 291 7. drol 284 8. Emperor Hirohito died on this day 34 years ago, aged 87. Hirohito was the longest-reigning Japanese emperor, reigning for 62 years- December 1926 to January 1989. He was most notable for his role in World War II, and was forced to renounce his god complex that the Japanese believed following it. In the tail end of his rule, Japan was experiencing a massive economic boom. Hirohito was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 1987, and was in noticeably deteriorating health throughout 1988 (a mystery as to why he was not on DeathList 1989- though he could've been on the missing 1988 list for all I know). He died on the morning of January 7, 1989, and was (of course) the first Japanese emperor to have his death announced on television. (Akihito will likely be the first to be announced via internet) World War II veterans attempted to pressure world leaders from attending his funeral, but other veterans like George H. W. Bush did so regardless. Hirohito is often posthumously referred to as the "Showa Emperor".

The next big miss of our D-A-CH-DeathList by just a few points is German journalist and author Klaus Rainer Röhl, who died on November 30th, just one day shy to his 93rd birthday. He is best known as founder, owner, publisher and editor-in-chief of "konkret", the most influential magazine on the German political left from the 1960s to the early 1970s. He has since become critical of communism and leftist tendencies. For me personally he is best known as the husband of German journalist Ulrike Meinhof before her descent to left-wing terrorism (Rote Armee Fraktion). https://www.faz.net/aktuell/feuilleton/medien/nachruf-auf-den-publizisten-klaus-rainer-roehl-17663427/klaus-rainer-roehl-17663426.html
