Life Begins at 5 o'clock

I don't see Muhammad Ali dying this year. Parkinsons is one of those diseases that you can live with for a very long time. Plus, as an athlete he probably spent his life in much better shape than your average politician or movie star, sort of off setting all the punchiness that results from a life time of getting hit in the head. I think he's one of those people that is going to become a perennial death tease, like zsa zsa gabor, Frank Sinatra or John Paul II.

For a lifetime spent worshipping false idols, I predict Billy Graham will be eaten alive by the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Why Salinger? Has he had any health scares? Aside from being a recluse he doesn't seem to have any other odd/dangerous habits. If the powers that be were set on picking an auther a better choice - to me - would have been Kurt Vonnegut, a smoker, chronically depressed, who complains that everyone he knows has been dying off. Not to long ago I read someplace that he had tried to kill himself again. Don't have a link for it unfortunately, but suicide seems to be something he makes a stab more frequently than most people.

I think Ford is definitely going to die this year. The networks have all prepared their "A Great American Figure has Fallen" peices detailing his career. He's a lock.

I picture Saddam bowing out like Lee Harvey Oswald. I think he should fear all of the nightclub owners Udday abused when he was in power.

I get the feeling Charles will bow out before Elizabeth. He just doesn't seem as hardy. Plus, haven't a number of the men in his family died of cancer comparatively young?

I can't help but be dubious of the medical facilities available in South Africa. As an old man, if he ever did have a medical emergency, it would probably be his last simply because of his location and relative remoteness from the world class medical facilities available to many similar high profile politicians. I think he's probably a good pick. BTW...what was up with this thread last month? Everytime you entered it, it directed you to some kind of poll.

Just looking through the threads and I found this one. I was wondering how many people the group knows of that have reached the age of 80 while weighing over 300 lbs? (Sorry, but I don't know the metric equivalent and as an American, cannot be expected to accomodate anyone by trying to find out, you'll simply have to adjust to me.) Of recent note, Marlon Brando is probably the last really famous fat person I can think of. B.B. King is also very hefty, above 80 and suffering from diabetes. Can't think of any others though. Can anyone else?

I agree with Canadian Paul about keeping a forum open to discuss wrestlers. I also humbly suggest opening threads for each of the major public figures...Olympic athletes, boxers, footballers, golfers, noble laureates, scientists, rock star etc. so that each group can be examined catagory by catagory. I guess a thread for each separate profession or job category so long as interest, or the impending doom of many of its highly regarded and leading figures, warrents it.

Hopefully Felt and Ariel Sharon can hang on until next year. I consider them my biggest missed opportunities. Outside the people that have actually died, of course.

The difference between Saddam and Milosevic (sp?) is where their trials are being held. A Dutch court is probably a far less dangerous venue than an Iraqi one simply because the Dutch aren't as keen about frequent large explosions. Milosevic's can drag on because he isn't in the care of the people whom he persecuted. My feeling is that Saddam will probably be assinated about midyear if his trial starts to drag on. It seems like everyone associated with it winds up dying violently, so it reasons that an assination is probably how his trial will end.

The Andy Griffith Show had a lot of very old stars and hasn't seen many of them die yet. Based simply on gut feeling I think one of them will die sometime this year. They've made my top 100 of old TV stars on their way out.

My name was inspired by my appreciation for Coors light and the Alan Jackson-Jimmy Buffett song "It's Five o'clock Somewhere." I also thought a name mentioning when life begins on a website focused on when life ends for so many people properly reflects my contrarian nature.

After seeing on wiki that former Olypmic medalist Larry Black died, the thought occurred to me that there are probably a myriad of ancient Olympians to provide fodder for the deathlist. So to speak.
