  1. Talking of ailing peers of the realm, how's about Lady Campbell of Surbiton, recently in the news for her opposition to assisted suicide.

"I tick every box of Lord Falconer's [criteria] to die," she said. "I could go tomorrow and, believe me, I would have no trouble in persuading two doctors. Three years ago two doctors persuaded me it was time for me to go on my way."

(She's the wheelie on the left btw.)

Good spot. The Houses Of Parliament have a "Leave Of Absence Register", which lists peers who do not attend the House of Lords. A few of them are quite young and are possibly off on secondment doing other things, but the rest of them are all pretty ancient and are probably not doing their job for health reasons. Strangely Baron Glenamara is not on the list.

  2. I rather think that was the fault of the Verve and their producer (Youth.) it was such an obvious sample that wasn't cleared, and that would always be a 100% royalties claim for the original copyright holder. Having said that, Klein was a grade-A tosspot who single handedly prevented loads of good music ever being released properly (Stones, ? And The Mysterians etc.) so I hope he had a painful exit.

"Though I walk in the shadow of the valley of evil, I have no fear, as I am the biggest bastard in the valley." Allen Klein

I think he was responsible for The Verve losing the rights to Bitter Sweet Symphony. Otherwise described as the best Rolling Stones song of the last 25 years.

Right, techno-anoraks, I have a problem that I don't know how to fix.

I have created a main folder to keep my music in. This folder has sub-folders. When I am trying move things from the sub-folders to the main folder, it says I don't have permission. I am the only user on this laptop, and my user account is as an administrator. I have disabled the User Account controls and it still won't let me rename the folders. I have checked the permissions for the main folder and I have full controls. Being a PC-oaf, I don't know what to try next. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance :skull:

  4. Probably mentioned before, but Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, celebrated Indian classical musician and ex-brother-in-law of Ravi Shankar has om'ed his last.

As he once said: "If you practise for 10 years, you may begin to please yourself. After 20 years you may become a performer and please the audience. After 30 years you may please even your guru. But you must practise for many more years before you finally become a true artist – then you may please even God." His father was 100 years old before he felt ready to bestow on his son the title of Swara Samrat ("Emperor of Melody")

  5. Perspective...

Having only recently been embraced by the corporate world, meaning far less time for DL and the like; I'd like to add to the 'compliances' and 'solutions' above the pointless phrase 'moving forward.' If you have ever used this phrase, you are dead in my eyes. If you have yet to hear it, I envy you.

"Perspective" is a big one around here that makes me want to hurl.

  7. A refuse collector is doing his rounds and notices one house in the street that doesn't have a wheelie-bin outside.

So he goes to the door and knocks. After a few minutes a young German man comes to the door.

"Where's your bin?", the refuse collector asks.

"I bin upstairs", the German man replies.

"No! Where's your bin?", he says.

"I bin upstairs havin' a excrement", the guy says.

"NO! WHERE'S YOUR wheelie-bin?", he continues.

The old man thinks for a minute then says:

"OK, you got me. I was really brutally killing and then chopping up a woman."

  8. King of the 70's B-Movie, a genre which died when Star Wars effectively made B-Movies into the headline films. Then in a load of straight-to-video schlock until Tarantino tried to do a Travolta on his career.

I have no idea who he was...

Then again, I had never heard of Heath Ledger wither.

  9. It might get shown on BBC4 one of these days, but then again it might not. Plenty of time to get some blank VHS cassettes from Woolies.

It’s taken decades to repeat the Bafta award-winning series, but actors say decision to screen it on BBC4 leaves viewers ‘cheated’

    'Viewers Cheated' eh?

More like Stuart 'Ain't done Much Since Ain't Half Hot Mum!, mum!' McGugan feels cheated out of his full repeat fees.
