As I predicted the Schengen area is slowly but surely putting the fencing back up.
  2. SNP then, assuming you're not one of the @ 50 Conservative supporters?
  3. Are you a supporter of another party by any chance?
  4. No. Just Corbyn - the stress'll give him a heart attack or the secret services will assasinate him when he starts campaigning for an end to nuclear weapons at the dispatch box.
  5. Who do we reckon'll get the shadow cabinet positions? John McDonald, Dennis Skinner, Gerald Kaufman, Tom Watson, Dianne Abbot, Ronnie Campbell, Kelvin Hopkins, John Cryer, Ian Mearns

    By-Election Bingo

If Jeremy Corbyn wins tomorrow we could get a few dozen hits. A sort of SDLP is potentially going to emerge in the next few months, and a new convention of the last parliament is that crossing the floor will require a by-election.

    Queen Elizabeth II

Reckon Edward VIII would have had children if he hadn't abdicated to be honest.

    Queen Elizabeth II

Unlikely as William is already older than she was when she took the throne. It would probably take for William to die tragically young and for George to live as long as Philip for us to have any chance. The better chance will lie with George's children's generation. I thought it might be interesting to extend this idea with a hypothetical timeframe: The Queen is currentlly 89 and her mum lived to 101. Let's assume she lives for a slightly less long time than her Mum and say she dies in six years' time at 95. In 2021, when she goes, Charles will be 72. Let's assume he also has enough in his tank to reach 95, given the longevity of both his parents (assuming he doesn't abdicate at any point). That takes us to the year 2044, meaning that Prince William will be 62. Asssuming this run of very good luck continues and William also reaches 95 (aided by the advances in medicine we will see by then), George will take the throne in 2077 at the age of 64. Assuming our boy George doesn't turn out to be like Boy George and has children of his own one day, they will presumably also be middle aged by the time they take the throne. Hence, we will really need an untimely death or a scandal to force William or George to abdicate early for a youthful monarch to take the throne again and have any chance of breaking Lizzie's record. The only other very slim possibility would be for George to have a child later in life but the pressure on him to marry and produce "an heir and a spare" early on means this is extremely unlikely too. (The variant on this would be if Prince George was gay or impotent and Charlotte had a child later in life as there would be, initially, less pressure on her to reproduce until George's problem was discovered, leading to a younger niece or nephew taking the throne.) Otherwise, the pattern will just keep repeating of the next in line taking the throne sometime in their 60s or 70s, meaning Lizzie's record will remain unassailable until something calamitous happens leading to the early death or abdication of a monarch to push a younger person onto the throne. The Queen will never abdicate, but that doesn't mean her successors will take the same view. I could easily imagine our future monarchs following the example of the Dutch and allowing the monarch to enjoy retirement. Charles won't abdicate, he's waited too long to inherit the throne. William might provided George doesn't turn out to be a nutter.

    Bhumibol Adulyadej

There's Louis European record, Sobhuza's world record, or if she wants to be ambituos Pepe II' disputed world record. But obviously Bhumibol would be a biggy, although he's younger than her he certainly appears more likely to die.

    Syria

Given this crisis shows absolutely no sign of going away do people reckon the refugee crisis is about to bring an end to the principle of free movement and the famous Schengen area. If so how will this look, are we going to see border fences erected along the EU borders or is it more likely to be a case of deporting to neighbouring countries rather than back home?

    Derby Dead Pool 2015

Still doesn't address the imbalance. If the Middleofnowhereshire Times reports that's Joe Bloggs has died on their website then that currently gets filed under List of the Lost. If the BBC Middleofnowhereshire local page reports that Joe Bloggs has died on the website that currently gets filed as a hit. It's unfair, regardless of your opinion on state news outlets and private news outletsboth of these institutions are intended for the same audience, the residents of Middleofnowhereshire and as such will reflect fame as seen by people in Middleofnowhereshire. The current rules provide a situation where a mildly notable chap from Middleofnowhereshire could die and the hit would be missed because it was report by the Middleofnowhereshire Times, whereas a few weeks later a equally notable chap dies and the hits granted because BBC Middleofnowhereshire reported it. How's that fair and equal treatment of news sources? That was a actually a response to Pelican's earlier query about video evidence and nothing about the BBC. Nonetheless you've raised an interesting point about what is counted as an obit. With three months until the nomination period opens for DDP 2016, I hereby announce an Open Forum to discuss any suggestions or gripes or rule clearance matters regarding the DDP from next year. So, your suggestions/complaints please. I may take on board all, none or some of what will be said in preparation for next year, so fire away folks! Just as a matter of record I would like to point out that my argument would be in favour of the exclusion of local content of national organisations from the valid obits category rather than the extension to other local new sources, with second preference being such and extension followed by a least desirable scenario of the status quo. This is in the belief that the current rules provided to much room for ambulance chasers, obscure picks with a local following and a degree of bias. Historically the DDP has been a game about celebrity deaths, I feel allowing a mere mention on a BBC local radio programme has the elastic band of celebrity stretched to the point you could accommodate an elephant within the inner radius. May I also request clarification that any alterations to the rules made as a result of this open forum will be published before the nomination period for next year begins? Also may I suggest that in addition to the overall scoreboard and theme team league a scoreboard excluding theme teams is provided. Finally can I request that this Rules and Scoring page (available here: http://www.derbydeadpool.co.uk/general/rules_and_scoring.html)on the site is ammended to display the rules of the current games as they stand as a point of reference for players rather than a frankly unhelpful "you're too late" message?

Isn't there a load more international games these days as well? Also how does it feel to know Scotland could realistically be the only home nation not to qualify for Euro 2016?

    Queen Elizabeth II

As the national press prepare for descent into sycophancy regarding Queen Elizabeths longest reign in UK history lets put her reign into context: She needs to live until Friday 8th August 2034, another 19 years 38 days to beat King Sobhuza II of Swaziland as worlds longest reigning monarch, providing Bhumibol Adulayedej dies at least six and a half years before that. She'd be 108 if she managed that.

Because they're not the BBC. That's not my point. At the minute we exclude local news sources such as local radio, local newspapers and local websites on the basis anyone notable will get national recognition. If we say that this is the case except when the BBC's local output produces something then we're given the BBC a divine right superior to any other news outlet.

If we start counting local BBC radio obits then why shouldn't we count commercial radio obits from stations such as Smooth, Metro, Classic, Sun FM etc?

What's the difference between Mary Whitehouse and Bibliogryphon? Mary Whitehouse was less prissy and old-fashioned.

Reckon we have an absolutely massive death coming up. Prince Philip, Zsa Zsa Gabor or Pope Benedict Emeretus at the least.

I'm sorry but suicide is admiral - it's a rather final expression of someones willpower, courage and determination combining physical nerve with mental fortitude. The majority of people who contemplate offing themselves are incapable of following through, me included in times gone by, so it's right to have admiration for those who follow through. It's also right to pity them and be upset at their death. Hmmm There are no details as yet about what the novel will be about, though it seems unlikely to be a rollicking farce about a loveable abbatoir worker. D'ya know what, that's a dangerous supposition, I think it might be exactly the kind of book they're claiming it won't be. It's probably a list of conquest he's forgotten the details about because of heavy drug use.
