Former Miss Nigeria and sister to famous actor Hank Anuku, Rita Anuku, has died. Rita, who won the Miss Nigeria pageant in 1986, died yesterday July 2nd in a hospital in Abuja after a battle with cancer. The mother of four was just 47 years old. I turned mine in a couple hours to spare, like we do. Didn’t have a clue my ringer had died; and I only threw Irving’s name as my sub bc I figured you would launch him yet again though I’m certain he’s fine and a liar, but I could eliminate one of your picks should the unfortunate occur, which it did. Same reason I made Harrell my joker (I knew you would) and why I listed Jimmy Carter (don’t wanna get caught w pants down should he actually die). I did my best to make this a 6-on-6 match or so, and to that extent I’m ok with my lineup. But they’ll either all be dead or ok by March 4th.

I created this thread once before and it was moved to Survivors. Now maybe that was the original intent of that thread but if you look at it (Admins I'm talking to you) you'll see it's been hijacked completely for nefarious purposes unrelated to "being the last surviving member" of something. So let's try this once again. Mahlon Duckett, who died at age 92 on Sunday night (Sept 13), was the last surviving member of the Philadelphia Stars Negro League baseball team. The great Chris Cross from Ultravox should be mentioned here, and now he is. A bassist himself, Sir Creep always considered Chris a hack who played through a series of pedals. That is until (*caution: name drop coming) he conversed with Midge Ure directly and was told no, in fact every note you hear is played by Mr Cross. At that moment SirC had new respect for him. Ultravox has always been one of his favourite listens. SirC never got to see Ultravox, due to cancellations more than anything else. Sadly, this is the ultimate cancellation. RIP SC

Thought the symbol of what became Pearl Harbor would make for an interesting topic now that we are down to 5 survivors, so easy peasy to keep track of. We had 6 till this week. A WWII veteran from Rhode Island, one of the last survivors of the attack on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, has died. Raymond Haerry's death was disclosed by Tim Gray, a local filmmaker who included Haerry in a new documentary, Remember Pearl Harbor, to be aired nationally on PBS this December on the 75th anniversary of the attack. Haerry died Sept. 27 in West Warwick at 94. His death leaves just five survivors from the USS Arizona. The rest of the short obit is fascinating so I suggest a quick read. Let's lump all these folks into one thread. Not all of them are past NFL players, though a chunk of them are (Steve Gleason, Tim Shaw, OJ Brigance, etc). Lest we forget the Pete Frates of the world, Jason Becker or even Stephen Hawking (though he's covered plenty elsewhere), or the late Sam Shepard. Not every affliction needs it's own thread, but this one is pretty well-defined and the progression easy enough to follow. And with that, a Tim Shaw update. He looks good enough, not even in a wheelchair at this point, so I think we can give him a pass to 2019 before we need to check in on him. SC
