    The Dead of 2019

So.... yesterday we get a DL hit/Drop 40er in Doris Day, and another Drop 40er today in Tim Conway. Both were also, at least in the United States, A-listers who rival each other for biggest deaths of the year so far. I think we can shut up with our drought complaints for a little bit...

    The Weather

Last week we had 4 days in a row of heavy rain. This weekend was beautiful, but as I was taking the train downtown to the Polish Parade on Saturday, I saw parks and backyards near the Des Plaines River flooded at various levels. One of the forest preserves we passed had to be at least 5 feet underwater! And this week we'll have 4 more days of heavy rain... thank God I don't live near a river.

    Derby Dead Pool 2019

Okay it's May 5th and I've not had a hit since late January... this is my slowest DDP start ever. Will this year be a dud for me, or can I still catch up? Here's some self-analysis. John Andretti: The cancer has returned... again... and I doubt he'll be able to shake it off again. But he may still sneak into the new year. 60% Samu Anoa'i: Advanced liver cancer, needs transplant, etc. Benefit event will be held for him later this month. Tough one to judge. 50% Susan Bayh: Looked okay at her father-in-law's memorial and is still responding well to treatment. But 8 more months with glio is a tough ask. 70% Kathleen Blanco: Been in hospice for three weeks now. My only dead-cert. 100% Johnny Clegg: According to South African Twitter he's been unable to attend events and is more seriously ill. He's a goner, I think. 95% Tim Conway: Old and demented... but so was Nobby last year, and he's still with us. 50% Jason deLisle: No updates that I could find since early last year. Last we know he has stage 3 colon cancer, which may have advanced by now, but probably still treatable. 20% Barry du Bois: Cancer slowly progressing, but he still looks fine. More next year than this year, imho. 40% Bill Freehan: See Tim Conway. 50% Clive James: Recently had emergency surgery on fast-progressing tumors. Frail and nearing 80. This could finally be his time, but I'm not getting my hopes up. 50% Lee Kerslake: Supposed to be dead by the autumn, but you never know, prostate cancer isn't that bad compared to most cancers. 65% Karen Lewis: Still tweeting away, mostly coherently. No longer makes public appearances. Stroke complications and glioblastoma. 70% Sacheen Littlefeather: Looked good in a recent photo. 30% Fernando Ricksen (JOKER): ALS hospice, getting worse and worse, looking worse and worse. Decently high chance at a joker score. 80% Fred Rister: Apparently not as bad shape as we thought. The cancer isn't very advanced. So more Philomena Lynott treatment-refusal than John McCain treatment-refusal-and-dies-the-next-day. 40% Jean Louis Trintignant: Another treatment-refuser who keeps on living. Although he is older than Rister and his cancer seems more advanced. But could still pull a Lynott. Who knows. 70%

Just submitted a team. Not my best effort, but it should still do solid. Good luck everyone!
  5. Just wanted to say I'll officially be attending my local community college, Harper, for the next two years. I got accepted to some universities but it's all much too expensive. Plus, this buys me extra time to think about a career choice. After Harper, hopefully I'm off to study and live in Florida.

    The Weather

Gaaaaahhhhh. I motherfucking jinxed it. A historic storm system is headed our way bringing rain at the moment, but later in the afternoon... snow. And quite a bit. My area of Chicago can expect to see anywhere from 1-4 inches, and if nearby O'Hare Airport measures more than 2.2 inches (odds are quite high), we will break an all-time record for biggest snowfall this late in the season. Meanwhile, the northernmost towns of Illinois, into southern Wisconsin through southwestern Michigan, can expect to see over 6 inches! Only in the Midwest can you go from 70s to several inches of snow to 80s to several inches of snow, in the span of three weeks... Christ. The snowfall from a fortnight ago was quite unexpected and also nearly record-breaking, but at least it still somewhat made sense being quite brown and dead outside. But this weekend's snow will be weird as hell... the magnolias are in full blown, there's flowers all around, many trees and shrubs have sprouted leaves, lawns look lush and green as can be... it's gonna look like the Twilight Zone with snow all up on it. It'll be well above freezing and sunny tomorrow tho, so melt away quickly and spring will return... fingers crossed that for good.

    The Weather

Just over a week later - Easter weekend beautiful. Temperatures soaring to 80°F (27°C) the past couple days, sunny too. Last night we had our first thunderstorm of the season. Swear ta God, only in Chicago can you go from winter to summer in the span of a week. God damn this city is crazy. Gonna be a little bit cooler and rainier now, but nothing to complain about. Winter and snow seems gone for good. Also, re: foliage etc., trees greening up really fast. No leaves popped out yet, but the buds are so big, it'll take days at most. Flowers aplenty too, including daffodils and tulips in my garden.

    The Dead of 2019

I usually think drought complaints are overblown, but this definitely has been an underwhelming year so far. Ten days left in April... surely we can't go into MAY with zero Crowdsourced DL hits, only one Deathlist hit, and only one DDP Drop 40 hit... right? On a personal note, I still have zero hits on my Shadow List, and I haven't had a DDP hit since late January. OTOH, this year could turn out like 2007. Slow start but a death-stravaganza of a summer. Or it could be slow all year, but then allow for a big 2020. Regardless, deaths are coming...

Georgia Engel is dead? Georgia by far the youngest MTM star Engel? That's actually fucking crazy. Never in a million years would I have thought she'd be the next one to die! Betty White and Cloris Leachman are both ancient. Ed Asner is a fat old Jew. Valerie Harper has been outliving her lung cancer prognosis by a gazillion years and counting. And Gavin MacLeod's old and out of the spotlight. And - fuck me - you're saying that spry, young, "only" 70-year-old Georgia Engel was the first one to die out of them all? I honestly believed that the 3-decade drought between Ted Knight and Mary dying would happen again with Georgia Engel outliving the rest of em all by a few decades. Goddamn. Oh, and excuse my long rant. I'm just shocked. Georgia Engel was a great, sweet actress and she will be missed. Edit: Actually a unique DDP hit for my Z-Team, Belmont-Cragin Reaper. I didn't expect her to die (obviously) but that team is mostly comprised of celebs who I don't want to be DDP misses in the unlikely event that they die. Edit 2: And I see @YoungWillz just pointed out that "someone" picked her.

    The Weather

Picture this. Spring time in Chicago. Flowers blooming, buds forming on trees, sunshine, warm weather. Last week was just like that. We reached 74°F (23°C) on Monday and nearly the same on Tuesday. Felt like summer, spent a lot of time outdoors, listening to good tunes. And then, yesterday morning, I wake up at noon with my hangover and... on God - several fucking inches of snow on the motherfucking ground. It continued throughout the day, including with gusty winds, and the official measurement at nearby O'Hare Airport was 5 inches. Pretty annoying. I was really enjoying the nice weather and it looked like the leaves were about to show up on trees. Last year it snowed several times throughout April, which resulted in no green until mid-May. This year was looking to get green early, but now this fucking snowstorm will probably delay it. Flowers all died too I'm assuming. But it's bi-polar ass Chicago weather, so winter isn't back for long. Snow already melted today, and tomorrow it's gonna be 67°F (18°C) and about the same for the rest of the week.

    The 2019 Deathlist Cup

Wow, can't believe I actually managed to get ahead of Banana. I hope it lasts. Regardless, should be a high-scoring round between us two. As for Mr. Tong, from what I read about him, he seemed like a reactionary sociopath and he will not be missed.

Cosmonaut and DDP pick Valery Bykovsky has died at 84. Best I can do is a Spanish language source so far, figured more of y'all speak that than Russian. Edit: My bad, here's an English one already.

    St. Patrick's Day

No, that was at 9:00 in the morning, bit too early for our group, especially since we live a ways away from downtown. I was gonna say we didn't even get to see the river *at all* during the day, but I just fuckin realized it's right by the damn train station. Had to have seen it, so either the dye had already worn off and thus wasn't memorable, or I was too inebriated to notice or remember the color change. 'Twas a good day regardless!

    St. Patrick's Day

As much as I roasted St. Patrick's Day on these forums 2 years ago, I've got to say this year I got in the holiday spirit... by getting shitfaced with my friends at the downtown Chicago parade yesterday. Next stop is the Polish parade in May.

    Political Frailty

A while ago I was tempted to make a father-in-law vs. daughter-in-law "who will die first?" poll between Birch Bayh and Susan Bayh. Guess we know who 'won' now... But I feel bad for Evan... just lost his father, and will probably lose his wife soon too to cancer.

    Time Added

Ah, fuck. Really thought she was a banker to make 2020. If I thought she had even a 20% chance of dying this year (especially so early!) I would have picked her in the DDP. This, plus Michael "I think he may have already died off the radar'' Murphy's death yesterday, and McGahan earlier in the month... really shaping up to be a shitty year for me in the DDP. But there's 10 months left so we'll see. And of course, on a personal note - sad story. No age at all. Weird seeing somebody who's pretty much my age becoming a DDP hit. Now I know how youze oldies feels. RIP Jordan Dawes

In an ironic twist of fate, the brother of Amer Deghayes (Syrian rebel fighter/Living End pick), Abdul Deghayes, was stabbed to death in Brighton. Meanwhile, brother Amer seems to live a comfortable life in the much safer, family-friendly city of Idlib, Syria.

    Political Frailty

What a shame. Dingell's frequent tweets (although presumably written by his staff) were very clever and I'll miss seeing them on my feed. Honored him with a spot on the US politics theme team last year, and this year I have him on my Z-Team. Despite his numerous health scares and bouncing back from them, this looks like the real deal.
  24. Well, the Pats did it again. Fuuuuuck. Honestly I'm not even mad anymore. When they won 2 years ago, I was fucking livid. But this year I'm calm. I've accepted it. Congrats to Tom Brady on 6 Super Bowl rings in 17 years. Now please just retire, ffs!

In what might be the biggest plot-twist in the rap community in years, 21 Savage has been arrested by ICE because he is apparently secretly from the UK and has been illegally living in the USA. Kids - this is why you don't trust people from Atlanta.
