    Hares Death Pool 2019

Wow, Deathray, excellent work with the former scoreboard links, all-time leaderboard, and other records!

    ABC Deadpool II

E is for Ellis ''Deadly'' Doug Ellis, that is, who is appropriately: dead! Died back on October 11th, just noticed now that I am missing points for him.

    Richard Overton

Shame to see such a legend go. If he had made it a few more days, I assume he would have been on many more DDP teams than the current 2.

    Derby Dead Pool 2018

Regarding the earlier conversation about how this has been such a dud year for jokers... As it stands today, December 27th, only 3 teams in the top 10 have had a hit with their joker. This is the worst year as far as records go back (2003). The next worst years, 2004 and 2009, had 6 of the top 10 with dead jokers.

    Derby Dead Pool 2018

If Osato gets her obit (I don't think she will), that's only the 10th hit of December 2018. An incredibly quiet month - and December is usually one of the busiest months of the year! On the other hand, this bodes well for January 2019 being a huge month and a rocket-fast start to the DDP, especially with how few shortlisters have died before the starting line.
  6. Yes, yes, I admit it was her. I did drop her from my shortlist about a week or two ago. She was a hell of a rollercoaster for me: when I first saw in November that she had a stroke and was then diagnosed with liver cancer, I assumed it was a complication of the cancer spreading and that it was clearly very advanced. But thanks to WebMD's highly professional tips, I found out that a stroke can actually occur in the very early stages. Couple weeks later, mid-December, I see a social media update that tumors have spread to her lymph nodes. What with me being totally stoopid when it comes to medical knowledge, I assumed this was metastasis and that she was in stage IV. But again, thanks to WebMD or some other site, I learned that cancer spreading to lymph nodes isn't nearly as severe as spreading to bones, lungs, etc. and puts her at stage II or III. So, yeah, Miss Dawes will be a prime pick. For 2021. If that.
  7. Just when I thought my team was good to go, I decided to swap out two names that were in their 80s. Replaced them with two younger picks that I've been needlessly skeptical about - they're actually good fucking picks when I stop overthinking it! They'll also be on everyone's teams and I need some fucking defense. Anyway, I think I'm finally content with To Kill A Gabor Sister 2019. A couple cult picks, a decent amount of Drop 40 favorites, some must-have certs, a few oldies-but-goldies, several off-forum names with two potential uniques as well (fingers crossed!)

    The Deathlist Christmas Special!

A very Merry Christmas to all. If you don't celebrate: Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa, Happy New Year, a Festivus full of grievance-airings, Blessed Solstice, and a Happy Libyan Independence Day! That oughta cover it.

    The Dead of 2018

Danish shoe designer and would-be cult pick for 2019 contenders Camilla Skovgaard died yesterday morning according to her GoFundMe.
  10. Just had my last final exam this morning and I'm now on Winter Break. I was happy to find out, just a couple days ago, that they generously gave us an extra day off, so we don't go back to school until Tuesday, January 8th - I thought it would be the day before. Plans now? I still have a ton of college applications to finish. So far I'm 5 for 5 in terms of acceptance (Illinois Wesleyan, South Carolina, Loyola-Chicago, UIUC, and Miami), but those were mostly 'safety' schools. The ones I'm working on now are the tough schools, so unfortunately will be expecting mostly rejection letters in the next couple months. Otherwise - Christmas celebrations with the family, including the grandparents who flew in from Poland. Shortlist work of course. Going skiing in Wisconsin with my friends in a couple weeks. And an amazing New Year's Eve!

    Derby Dead Pool 2018

Not to be a bother, especially with how busy you must be with the 2019 entries, but I noticed a few minor issues. 1. DI's space theme team Decaying Orbit-uaries is at 0 points in the Theme Team League table, but it's actually at 39 points. 2. God bless ya for updating the scoreboard for Bill Slater and Penny Marshall already, but when you click on both their bios, there is no date of death. Dunno if you intentionally left that for later or not. Before you ask, I've fuck all better to do during the holiday season.
  12. 29 shortlist names left. As I said last week, I'm pretty confident about my team and how the 'final draft' will look. Just a couple names I'm wrestling with. One off-forum young'un had a social media update recently that I took to make them be a lock, but upon doing research on some medical things, it turned out that update wasn't nearly as serious as I had originally assumed! Also decided against picking an oldie who's very likely to die, mainly because of a few technicalities. And when it comes to "few names I might pussy out of"... yeah I just pussied out of one. But going off precedent, he might die off the radar. Edit: This is probably the last shortlist-meddling I'll be doing for a while, as I have final exams this week, a couple of college application essays to finish, and Christmas celebrations to attend. I'll make my finishing touches to my 2019 team starting Boxing Day.
  13. Thanks. It was all me, fuck the players. On a serious note: so glad this happened. I still can't believe Da Bears are going to the playoffs. Like, I can't wrap my mind around the fact that I will be watching Bears football in January. But it's finally going to happen, for the first time in 8 years. And there wasn't a better team for us to clinch the division win/playoff spot against than the Packers.

    Tim Conway

Tim Conway is 85 years old today! Suffering from advanced dementia and being a household name in the USA (therefore, assured a Daily Mail obituary), Conway has a good shot at making the Drop 40 for the 2019 DDP imo. Having starred in both McHale's Navy and Spongebob Squarepants with Ernest Borgnine, as well as the Carol Burnett Show, perhaps he might just meet the fame criteria for the Deathlist as well.
  15. Down to 32 names on the shortlist, but tbh I'm already fairly sure of how my team is going to look in the end. I have pretty much decided on 17 spots, but I'm not going to call them ''locks'' yet because there's a couple I might pussy out of. I think I've figured out who will fill the final 3 spots as well, but I still have time to (over)think about it.

    Derby Dead Pool 2019

Submitted my NFL theme team Traded to the Saints and my Z-team Belmont-Cragin Reaper yesterday afternoon, and already got confirmation this morning. Thanks Spade! Z-Team: a shitty team, way worse than a B-Team, consisting of names I want to protect from the List of the Missed, some of my 2018 theme team survivors, etc. There - I invented a new word for the DDP vocabulary!

    2018 Report Card

DDP To Kill A Gabor Sister - So far I'm in 9th place, improving on last year's =11th, but that could change. Hopefully I remain in the top 10 at least. I was hoping to contend for the crown, but not much to complain about, really. B+ Slavic Folk Theme - 18 survivors, 2 List of the Losters, makes 0 hits. Fucking amazing. Not surprised ancient Bulgarian monk did not obit, but Barys Kit got fuckin robbed, man! F US Politics Theme - 4 hits: Senator Akaka, Johnnie-boy McCain, and both Bushes. Decent showing. A- Other pools started in January Deathrace - Was hoping for a win, but I ended up in joint third, so came close enough. However, I missed a lot of names I knew would die early in the year when creating my team, such as Bobby Zarin. B- Hartlepool - Not sure since Ali's been disappeared. Half my team is dead and mostly names at the top, so should be pretty good. Only problem is Marieke Vervoort was my #1. You cunts said she'd be dead by mid-January! B Hare's - I think I'm near the bottom, might have made it to midtable with some recent hits on Lima and Bush. D+ Pools from later in the year DL Cup - Made it to the March round, and although my team was the second best performing of the month, I still lost! My opponent was the best of the month, Dead Cow. Luck of the draw... *grumble* C Windy City - Retired from hosting so wanted to pull an OoO DDP 2010. My team is doing well so far, but no way I can fucking catch DI! B- Poker Tourney - A'like Winday Citay, doing aight, but can't fucking catch up to that god DI! B- ABC Pool - Midway through it, I'm in the lead. Hopefully this continues. A+

Well, Chris Bradley is dead and I miss out on my first deadpool win by a couple seconds. Congrats to Banana!

    Derby Dead Pool 2018

I'm on mobile right now (so it might be different on the comp) but I'd suggest having the menu on the side rather than the bottom of the page. Not a big deal tho. Otherwise looks good to me.

    Barbara Bush

As suggested by some folk on her husband's thread, she needs her own (and naw, last year's Barbara vs. Rosalynn thread doesn't count). The going on 92, frail-looking, many times hospitalized, stressed out by husband's health, soon-to-be-widow former First Lady is a good candidate for next year.
  22. Down to 53 names on the shortlist. At this point, the cuts are becoming quite difficult. Recent cut was a probable Drop 40er who isn't as ill as he's dramatized to be, both in the press and on the forum. Also dropped someone who is almost a dead-cert and will be on several contending teams, but probably won't muster the obit. The main one I'm dabbling with now is a bloke who I think understated his life expectancy. And I was quite surprised to find out that two names of the same nationality, who were practically locks, have a couple more years left in them if statistics are to be believed. However, I expect at least one of them to make my team anyway, because a lot of the current locks won't make the starting line!

    23. Rosalynn Carter

Just bringing this up... with both Bushes now dead, I think that definitely ought to open up a spot for Rosalynn Carter on the Deathlist 2019.

On the opposite side of the scoreboard, mr.whit leap-frogs Bibliogryphon, but with excellent picks like Clive James and Fernando Ricksen on Biblio's team, a mid-table December comeback would not surprise me.
