When I first heard the news of her ill health two days ago, my initial reaction was that it was a "brace yourself" announcement and that she had only a few days left to live.
But later on, I figured she could easily make it another couple months. It might take a while before she suffered complications from her illnesses.
Turns out I was right the first time around.
RIP, I guess.
Edit: I really can't imagine George living much longer anymore. Couple months left at best, probably just a couple weeks.

Chicago spring weather is obviously crazy, but this year might be one of the craziest I've seen.
End of February a 'heat wave' arrives with temps in the 60s, and everybody's thinking spring's gonna arrive early this year.
But in mid-March, we have another snowstorm with a couple inches falling in the span of a couple hours. It's cold for most of the rest of March, with no end in sight.
Things warm up again very late in March with a couple nice, sunny days, in the upper 50s. Some flowers actually start to blossom. This time's gotta be spring, right?
Nay. Easter is the coldest one in decades, barely above freezing in the daytime. Then, a couple days later, snow fell. And this Monday, we had snow fall again.
Then, yesterday and the day before temps reached 70! Practically summertime, right, we skipped thru spring?
Nay. Temps near freezing this weekend with snow potential into Monday.

16 hours ago, Sir Creep said:Well if he’s starting a cycle of chemo his doctors suspect or at least hope it keeps C from advancing, so there’s all that time plus even if it fails then there may still be alternatives and even if not there is still the time the body succumbs and that’s usually many months (say 4 minimum 12 max). Two years is quite likely rather than iffy, and chalk up myself and whoever else wants to admit now that Gilbert appears a shoddy pick in 2018.
SC
Yeah, you two are right. I fucked up big time jokering him.
Seemed like a cert in December - 'too ill' to attend Christmas lighting, and everybody thought it plausible for him to die that month and give DQSP another late win.
But even though more tumors are popping up, everything seems under control for now. I guess there's a chance treatment stops working and he dies later this year, but at the moment it seems he's actually one of the worst picks on my team. Not something you'd want to say about your joker.
I originally considered him to be a 2017 Errol Christie - unexpectedly survived the previous year, so a decent bet he won't hang on much longer. But now I realize he's more of a 2017 Leah Bracknell - prognosis seems grim on paper, but they're defying the odds and not declining as fast as expected.
So, yeah, that means I'm pretty much out of the run for the title this year. But punts like Goodwin and Rios Montt being successful means I still have a decent shot at the top 10. And, who knows, if Vervoort continues to stall the euthanasia...

Thanks guys.
Definitely not a pick I feel bad about scoring with. Certainly better than last year's unique ALS mum.

It's bad enough she was made into a crying Jordan meme after Loyola's loss yesterday.

Happy Easter everyone.

Here's some of my thoughts:
Surprised Lê Đức Anh is a unique for Joey, would've made my team as well. It's a tad suspicious he made it this long after the grim reports, but his time is probably up soon. Odelein an interesting punt - seems very grim but we don't really know what's wrong with him. Read some articles in the Japanese press about Obayashi making several public appearances in March, so that's a unique that probs won't pay off for Joey... same can be said for Rae (went to a birthday part last month)... and Abbas is almost definitely a bad pick, since the health report was likely a fraud, though I guess assassination isn't out of the question.
I'd've dropped Anzaki if I advanced... we don't really know how he's doing since the goodbye party. And he was just pissing me off for being a wasted pick twice, plus I was counting on him to give me a last-minute hit against Cow . He'll probably piss me off even more by croaking this month.
Pretty shocked Jowell's a unique. If she does die this month, it'll probably be in the later weeks, since she attended a wedding. But she looked ghoulish in the photos, and the fact they had to have the ceremony earlier is ominous.
Da-Ren's a goner almost fasho, but I didn't think he'd be most popular pick. Thought that'd be Wilkins - there's a *chance* he'll recover from the heart attack, but looks a goner since his condition is still critical after several days.
Bishop David Foley would've made my team. Not a bad find for DDT and Sir Creep, he's in a 'care home' with cancer - sounds a bit like hospice.
Funny that Cow got a Remigino unique, as I would've had him on my team as well. Great minds think alike . I base this off some tweets I saw in February where he looked quite frail.
Didn't think Sergei Skripal would be such a popular pick. If his daughter recovered, I think he might too. I feel like if the attack were fatal, he'd likely be dead by now. But, you never know, folk in that condition have been known to linger and then suddenly croak. Quite tricky to call.
Lastly, Stefansson... of course it's easy to think he's a goner soon based off the grim health reports at the end of February, as well as the fact that he deleted his social media. OTOH, he said he has some projects he wanted to finish, so he might have a couple months left in him. Besides, I remembered when Rowena Kincaid deleted her social media in May 2016... she proceeded to make it all the way to September! There's a decent chance Stefan'll die this month, but I wouldn't have included him on my team.

To answer the above post - yes, this pool will be running for 2018-19. The new host, Captain Chorizo, should be opening the new thread in a week or two. Y'all make sure to give him a big 'like' when he does.

Surely this from a newspaper obit section counts for Kleese then?
If not, I'm completely fucked now that Bailey got his.
-
He's not just an organic farmer, Sir Creep. He's an organic farming activist, who started a local non-profit. Admittedly a very borderline name, but he qualifies.
Anyway, he's dead. Not sure if that there counts, but hopefully it does cause it might be my only chance to take the lead against Cow before the Shaun Bailey obit comes in.
Edit: Be funny if Cow and I tie and it comes down to Bailey vs. Kleese age - they were both 53. It'd be another coin flip for msc..
-
The reason the translation might be off is because Vervoort's a Belgian, and Flemish differs pretty significantly from the Dutch spoken in the Netherlands.
Anyway, from what we can understand, looks like she's putting off the euthanasia again.
Not very surprised. She's been overdramatic about it for months now. Remember the late December articles that pushed almost everybody to joker her in the DDP? Folks thought she'd be gone by the middle of January.
Wish I hadn't chosen her for the Cup. Only had her on the team as a defensive pick. I would've had huge bragging rights if I were the only one of 16 teams to correctly guess she'd survive the month.
Of course, now that I said that, watch her inject the needle tomorrow...

Participated in my school's walkout today. A couple of short speeches followed by 17 minutes of silence for the victims of the Parkland shooting.
The moment of silence was almost disrupted by a special kid who ate snow and wouldn't stop talking. Also, this crazy conservative activist kid had a plot to blow air horns during it, but the deans caught him before he could.
All in all, it was a very somber moment. Hopefully the thousands of kids who walked out today across the US sent a message to the politicians that they gotta finally do something.

Ed Kennedy died on February 28th.
Sorry Cow (and DI), but I am tryna win this, ya know.
And don't worry, you'll get your revenge in a few days when my own ultra-obscure hospice dweller Tony Kleese is announced to have died 'last month'.

Interesting news to wake up to.
Considered her an obit punt, but she already got the Guardian and the Mail hours ago. Goes to show how random 'obit punts' could be - if she hadn't died on (or near) Tasmanian election day, I reckon there'd be a couple days wait for a Guardian obit at best.
Well, off to update Death by Numbers.

Centenarian athlete, DDP pick, and all-around cool guy Stanisław Kowalski hit two major milestones in recent weeks.
On March 19th, he became the Oldest Man in Poland, upon the death of Józef Żurek.
On April 14th, he turned 108 years old!
Many happy returns!
