The cancer diagnosis in some ways distracts from the original surgery (if the hysterectomy theory is correct, then ovarian would be most likely).

Read Isabel Hardman's op-ed piece in today's 'i' newspaper, and something she said was interesting: re using the threat of an election to keep the rebels in line. If you follow the rebels' logic that the reason for ousting Sunak is because things are only going to get more disastrous until an autumn election if he stays in charge, why would they be worried about a May election? They're going to lose either way, might as well suffer a slightly less bad defeat and get rid of him sooner than stagger on to autumn and get a bigger shellacking. In other words: a threat is only a threat if the other side fear the outcome. It worked for Major in 1995, not so much for Sunak in 2024.

According to the weekend papers, that's a view increasingly shared by Tory MPs. There's no meaningful business in Parliament, the polls aren't getting better, and the plotters are only going to keep plotting. Might as well get the election over with and fight on their own terms. Again, according to the weekend papers, this is what was suggested was keeping the plotters at bay - that Sunak would call an election if they tried anything. Now he has publicly stated that there won't be an election until the autumn, the plotters feel they've got time to remove him, install someone new and give them time to settle in before thinking about calling an election. Whether he'd let them do that, I don't know. I'm not convinced he's got the balls to call an election if he's challenged, although what has he got to lose?

Got to be a decent chance Charlie Duke's the last one standing, certainly of the moonwalkers... Stafford has died 59 years to the day since Alexei Leonov's first spacewalk.

Doesn't feel too much that stands out as definitely going through. Top end's looking ok for now, though. Most of them are listenable enough, and while I'm not going to pretend Pon de Replay is top tier Rihanna, it's better than a quarter of this list for me. Other thoughts: Trick Me is the better Kelis song, despite Milkshake being the more prominent. For the second round in a row, I have initially dismissed a Rachel Stevens song only to listen to it and remember what a banger it is. Thank You is no patch on Superstar. And why is My Band credited to D12 when it's clearly an Eminem track essentially?

Why host it on the same day as all the other elections and reduce the burden on people, councils and budgets? Nothing sums the last decade-and-a-half up better than the unnecessary waste of time, effort and money that's going to be caused by an autumn election. I'm not at all bothered about getting my prediction wrong, because I know that is the only right day the election should be held. The fact it isn't being held then just shows how shallow and desperate the squatters are. Time's ticking Rishi - fuck off back to Goldman Sachs.
