Jim Bowen dead at 80. RIP to a legend

I wasn't expecting this at all! He was doing really good to still be performing at his age and I thought he would last years yet. Still 90 is a good age and glad he was well and still working until right near the end. RIP Sir Ken Dodd.

I am just watching Dr Who and the Silurians now and I thought in the scenes he was in he was the only one left alive. No longer! always a good actor and played some great parts in Dr Who as well as Survivors and numerous other roles.

Very nice tribute there YoungWillz. So many, especially from Classic Who gone. I didn't know that Kismet Delgado had died - I always found that segment where her and Barry Letts talked about Roger when he died in that car crash really sad on the DVD extras - Roger sounded like such a nice bloke (can't remember which story it was from though). Hopefully she's reunited with him now (if you believe in that sort of thing of course).

I thought I'd seen somewhere that the last GOT season was scheduled for 2019? Even though there are only 6 episodes there's obviously going to be huge special effects and post production work going into it. I think Clive still has a long wait to see the end of GOT. He has lasted a long time though. He must be nearly 80 now and surely he's been able to do everything he wanted to do since his prognosis in 2010/11?

I've thought that for the whole of 2016 and 2017 and he's still here!

He is definitely having the same quality of life that Zsa Zsa endured in her last 5 (+?) years. Stuck in bed with medication constantly being administered. Is he completely deaf and blind now as well? There was that statement when he hit 98 that this would be ' his last birthday' or something to that effect so the family obviously didn't imagine him living that much longer., but here we are over a year later and a few days off 2018! In these kind of cases, of course you don't want them to die but it would not be a 'sad' death with the headlines, 'taken from us too soon' unlike say someone like Leah Bracknell who is much younger.

What I find crazy is the fact that there are only 5 hits in the top 30 on the list yet the committee still got 17! There are still so many near the top that I thought would have gone last year let alone in 2017 but they will still be here next year as well! I can still see 17 being broken next year IF the committee keeps the right names and finally some of the 'bed blockers' start to expire..

I do think Gorbachev should be included in 2018 - he'll be 87 in March - quite a good age when you think of other Russian/Soviet politicians. Or he could be the next Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov and live to 96. When you think of his importance in world politics at the end of the Cold War and the other main leaders (Reagan, Thatcher, Kohl) are now all nearly gone it would be quite a miss. Also was thinking of George Shultz who'll be 98 next year although with Bush, Carter, Dole and a possible return of Kissinger the committee may not want any more US politicians in the list. Another extremely deathlisty pick IMO would be Geoffrey Palmer who will be 91 next year. Been in bloody everything really and his last screen role was in 2014 for Paddington so looks like he may now have retired (?).

Does everyone think Clive James is going to survive into 2019 then? Not heard much about him for a bit now...

Some thoughts... I really think Ian Holm should be included next year. Recent health problems, retired and typical Deathlist pick. George Blake will be 96 next year. Although not one of the 'Cambridge spies' he did have connections to them and is the last surviving member of 1960s spies who were turned by the USSR. Joss ackland will be 90 and would make a decentish pick. Doreen Keogh will be 92 - she was Mary the neighbour in The Royle Family but also had a lengthy career going back to the late 1940s I'm surprised Sheila Mercier hasn't been mentioned for a while. 99 on 1st Jan and as a 'soap choice' could take Vera's place. veteran character actor Tony Britton will be 94 next year - starred in 'popular' sitcom Don't Wait Up but also in loss of other stuff like The Day Of The Jackal, etc. Also Fern Britton's dad Eve Marie Saint will be 94 - one of the last 'big' actresses left from the Hitchcock classics.

Always liked that story - suitably grim and very early to mid 1980s vibe.

OK then - he was massive for a short period in both the US AND the U.K.. Kind of like The Bay City Rollers? Didn't have long lasting chart success? Before my time as I said...

I think that he was more of an American thing wasn't he? I know The Partridge Family was a big thing and he had a decent music career but it was quite a long time ago since he was an household name. He was big in the early 1970s but didn't maintain his success IMO from looking at his bio. The only thing I can remember seeing him in was an episode of Tales Of The Unexpected where he plays twins but I obviously didn't grow up when David was famous. Is it me or are the rate of celeb deaths starting to increase (as they usually seem to do) in the last few weeks of the year. Keith Barron, Rodney Bewes, Cassidy - the rate has been increasing summat...again purely from my own observations..

RIP Rodney Bewes. Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads is classic comedy and both Rodney and James Bolam are great in it. Cant believe they never talked again after that feud. It would be great if those missing episodes of the original show would turn up...

I can't believe there is that amount of people frantically working on David Cassidy's Wikipedia page regarding his ongoing life/death! Is it a competition to see who gets the right time of death registered?

Popcorn time Hopefully the only ones hurt are the ones who deserve it and caused so much misery for the people living there..

Billy Graham.....again!

I think Ray Galton could make a good pick for next year. Wrote jointly with Alan Simpson for 2 huge comedy series - Hancock Half Hour and of course Steptoe and Son. He'll be 88 next year. Alan Simpson died earlier this year in February...

For some reason I don't think Leslie will go this year. His continued longevity seems to indicate he's a fighter. Too big a miss to take off next year though. I cannot believe that Billy Graham is still here. I did think he would have gone in 2016 (and didn't one of his relatives say that last year was his last birthday or something?) but when he made 2017 I thought he would be one of the first 'hits' of the year not making it to April. But here we are. 14 hits will be broken this year though - I don't doubt that..

RIP. So...Deirdre Barlow in 2015, Hilda Ogden in 2016, Vera Duckworth in 2017... Ken Barlow for 2018..?
