No, of course I'm not suggesting that.  I've already explained that there's a difference between the Shadow List and other personal lists.

A couple of names that I would describe as anomalies are Ruby Muhammed and William Gates Sr.

By and large the names on the DL are usually those that would be familiar to most British people of a certain age.

Well I suppose that you do have to be of a certain age to recognise Mary Lee and the Roy Fox band

The point of the Shadow List is to try and pick the sort of names that the Committee might pick.   Admittedly they do go for an occasional anomaly, but not many.  It's not an exact science, but I don't think those two are people I would expect the Committee to pick, regardless of obit status.

    ?????????????????

I’m not entirely certain that this makes any sense whatsoever. Perhaps someone from ‘The Committee’ might want to clarify this thought. And what constitutes an ‘Anomaly’.

If you’re trying to suggest that many followers of DeatLiist should give up creating Shadow lists and simply go away I think you’re getting close to that point.

No, it doesn't.  The aim of the Shadow List is to offer a comparable alternative to the Death List.

There's nothing wrong with people making their own personal list, but that's not the same thing.

    Quite agree with COMPARABLE.
Concerning the two names that Ulitzer95 highlighted: Ted Luscombe obituary was published in The Times, Francis Jackson obituary in The Guardian.

Are obituaries in these newspapers DL worthy?

And please recognise that the ‘perspective’ that I was referring to was that of Ulitzer95 in making their observations.

Just had a look at your Shadow List, and at least 8 of your 17 hits so far are not "DL level" type names.

It's easy to pick 50 names of random, barely notable centenarians and nonagenarians and get 17 hits. Anyone can do that. Think you've missed the point of this pool...

Really. Easy to make such a bland comment.
It does all rather depend upon your perspective; your own background concerning who ‘notable’ and important people are.

  5. David McCullough dead at 89. A distinguished author, historian, film maker and narrator. My memory of him is always as the narrator of The Civil War by Ken Burns. For me one of the finest tv documentary series of all time.

He was not on the DDP drop 40 and he was not on the crowdsourced list

He has been working during the year including filming the 60th Anniversary Episode of Doctor Who - he did lose his wife at the end of 2021 but seemed in reasonable health. I think he would have been included in the 2023 list if he had survived

I understand totally why he was not on the list

There is one sad and pressing logic for Bernard to have been included by the committee (and others) on this years list. His lifelong partner Gillian McBarnet died last year after they had been married for 66 years (m 1955). It is not at all uncommon for men of Bernard’s age to rapidly decline from good health and die within a short period of time following the death of their wife; such likelihood being increased by their having no children.

I shall miss Bernard, he has been a most loved presence in my life for many years.

My 2nd Frank Williams shadow list hit, after the demise of F1’s Frank Williams last year.

Unfortunately I don’t think I can score a Frank Williams hatrick for 2023…

    You could try for it:

    1) Frank Williams dob 1940 former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Rhode Island

    2) Frank Williams dob 1942 ex member of the Florida House of Representatives

I would opt for the former.
