The Irish in general seem to defy logic when it comes to lifestyle and longevity. I have an Irish step-mother and her brother in law is about to hit 80 despite being a heavy drinker and smoker for 65 years. He even tried to light one up in the ambulance that was taking him to hospital after a suspected stroke a few years ago.

Sad story really. His wife should have pulled the plug years ago but can't let go and he'll die 20 or so years from now when the money runs out having had virtually no life since the accident.
