Dunno. I'd caveat your comment with the observation that It all went a bit Twin Peaks with that bizarre wedding charade he went through with some talentless bint whose name escapes me.

    Names we dislike

i despise, for no obvious reason, the name Jack. And it's become ubiquitous over the last decade despite being virtually obsolete - an anachronism - when I was growing up. It reminds me a bit of a Monkey Dust sketch some of the names coming up here. I can't find the initial part of this sketch, but involves potentially giving the baby names like Hercules. According to wikiquote, the initial sketch goes: " Mother: I know what we should call him. How about Jacoby? Baby: [thinking] What? Father: That's nice, although I had rather set my heart on Hugo. Baby: [thinking] Hugo? Hugo?! You fucking twat! Father: Then again, we could name him after my grandfather, Thursby. Baby: [thinking] You absolute fucking tosser! They will beat me like a Chipperfield monkey! Mother: No, I know what's nice. Baby: [thinking] Dave! Steve! Chris! Steve! Dave! Anything! Mother: Hercules! Baby: [thinking] Oh, that's a good idea - if I want to be a fucking gladiator! Father: The classical touch is nice, but how about Archimedes? Baby: [thinking] How about "Fucking Gaylord" and be done with it!" And then...

    Derby Dead Pool 2018

Is there a database behind the DDP webpage with picks from all previous years? Just wondering how people are picking up on these List of the Lost sort of picks? Is there any way to tag a first time pick as a New Entry or something?

    The Deathlist Cup 2018

I've been away for the last 10 days or so, so am only just getting round to reading through this. It was a ding-dong battle, but in the end the lads in the end dun good and were able to knock one past the oppo's goalie just as things were looking in the end a bit squeaky bum time. Anyway, in summary, it was a surprising win for the unheralded team out of Kiwiland who usually perform so adeptly in manners, but so poorly in actual results (oh, the 0 - 0 'thrillers' you get to sit through watching the All Whites). It was good to see no fights on the terraces between the opposing sets of fans, but the unlucky DI team gaffer must be wondering how he didn't put the game to bed before the half-time oranges. As for the initial salvos of the next round, well, it's all a bit cagey so far i'n't it?

    Words We Dislike

Fronting or Fronting up. Every article I read about Australia's ignominious attempts to doctor the ball in the last Test vs. South Africa bangs on about Smith and Bancroft 'fronting' or 'fronting up' to the media. What an absolutely ghastly term.

I can't believe IL Bula (i.e. Ilikena Lasarusa Talebulamainavaleniveivakabulaimainakulalakebalau), the First Class cricketer with the longest name is still apparently alive. 96 years old. Probably the most famous Fijian cricketer. Pretty decent player by all accounts. Might be obit worthy due to the name length.

    How Old Are Dl Users?

I think people's ages should be measured by their pop-culture references. I wonder if that would help... Looking through my most recent posts, there seems to be regular references to syphilis. Hmmm. Not really current pop-culture there...

    Best Historic Dl Forum Threads

A deathlist thread around the Court of Henry VIII would have been interesting. Who will lose their head next? Any comment about the King's virility may verily steer the executioner to thine door. And something around the mental decline of Isaac Newton would have been interesting. Plenty of speculation as to which disease (syphilis - never trust a lifelong bachelor!) or evil spirits were getting to him, when it was in reality more likely to be cumulative mercury poisoning causing the eccentricity. And no doubt a lot of speculation around the imminent death of George III from around 1810 - 1820. More shouts of syphilis. In fact, I suspect any fair fellow subject to a peculiar walk 1450-1900 would have had a few accusations of Great Pox/syphilis thrown their way. Syphilis theme teams would have spread like a dose of the clap.

Pumping Them Out In The Birthing Pool

You're quite right of course. I couldn't open the link at the time I read it, and then forgot about it. C'est la vie. As I said, in that previous post, that surrogacy should definitely count. And there should be the bonuses in the event of it being a multiple birth. However, what I don't think is reasonable is for the age bonuses to apply, as a surrogate can be used by people of any age with an equal likelihood of success. As such, the points scored would be for the lowest age bracket. So, I think that's 15 points.

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

Working my way through the Booker Prize short list nominees at the moment. Some of the nominees are so much better than the winners. e.g the Reluctant Fundamentalist > the Gathering; Morality Play > The Ghost Road. Some great books in the list, but some pap too.
