Yes, thank you! And yeah, I remember that conversation too, thanks. You're absolutely right, they wouldn't be that obvious - the whole point of a fake burner account is people don't link it to you. This is just random chaotic similarity nuttiness - we both thought of the ferryman. So did Crossing The Styx, come to that. I'm sorry to read that obviously something pretty bad went down while I was away. Don't know what, don't need to, but not me. And let me add an additional extra belated congrats to @Death Impends on a remarkable victory. Sorry not to do so before.

    Derby Dead Pool 2019

Sorry just saw this. I'm not anyone's burner account, I am indeed the forum member with the exact same name as the team who plays the Derby Dead Pool. Not been posting because it's been a busy year, sorry.....but not a former member. A current member. Just a quiet one. It sounds like I'm being confused with someone who's been banned.....so it's unfortunate I've been quiet, but it was purely voluntary. Also not sure how I prove I'm not the banned person, but perhaps the fact I'm here and still playing the pool is enough. Hope so. Edited, trying to make sense of it. OK, it looks like maybe I got confused with Charon again. I am not Charon, and never have been. Charon's boat is the ferry of the dead, Charon's Crew are the dead people in it, hence the name. I didn't know there was a Charon here already when I picked the name. I'm not the person banned for being a twat. Mind you, I am a twat though.

Thank you. She was a classy lady, I agree. RIP.

Nan Winton is my first ever unique hit (she's on my theme team). I didn't realize she'd gone, so thanks to whoever did. I'm sorry she's dead, but I'm glad I chose her for more than just having got the points - I didn't know who she was until I researched my theme team last December, and now she gets a write-up. I'm pleased she's getting the attention. Funny thing is, I almost didn't include her, because I wasn't sure if she was still alive. She was the only one on my team I couldn't verify as still living, and I was considering dropping her from my team next year for that reason......

OK thanks, I'll check it out. Read through it - yes, they say points weren't awarded in his case when he was simply missing before any parts of him were found, even though there was possibly a QO by the sounds of it. So you need a body. Thanks!

Thanks. So in that case, it would just needs a QO then. If the Guardian or whoever decide to refer to a missing person as deceased, and it's obvious they weren't dead last year, then points would be awarded regardless of actual proof of death. But if the Guardian just keeps saying they're missing, it doesn't count? OK thanks, makes sense.

    Derby Dead Pool 2019

Question, just out of curiosity. The sad story of Emiliano Sala made me wonder about the rules covering people who go missing. Nobody chose him, but I was wondering what would happen in a case like his. The only rule I can see on the subject is that people who go missing "can only score points if their death is confirmed as happening in 2019 and not before, so don't bother picking Jimmy Hoffa." And since it says "death is confirmed", that rules out celebrities who just disappear, and could reasonably still be alive somewhere, and turn up again in a year or so. But there's no question of Mr Sala having died last year. His plane appears to have crashed into the sea, although there's no actual evidence of that. The search has been called off, and presumably the authorities might allow an inquest and possibly a declaration of death. (I don't know how long the family would have to wait, but apparently the 'seven year' rule is waived in circumstances like this, where the missing person is believed to have been in a plane crash.) So what counts as "death is confirmed"? Would it count if death is almost certain, (missing in a disaster), or does there need to be something like an inquest and declaration of death, or is it strictly "if there's no physical evidence of death, then death can't be confirmed"? And does it make a difference that they haven't found any wreckage, and therefore have no actual proof the plane crashed, even though circumstances make it almost certain? (There is evidence that he got on the plane, and it took off.) Hope nobody minds all the questions, apologies if you do. I'm just curious. It's very sad anyway. RIP Mr Sala, I'm sorry that (apparently) happened to you.

Do you think I should show it to my younger kid's teacher? She always seems to be interested in ideas for lesson plans, and themes for the crayoning sessions.

Time To Take Out The Trash looks to maybe be an undesignated theme team as well. Delightful group of people on it. Yeah, some interesting new picks this year. This game is very educational.

Well Marie Colvin got one. He was nominated for an award for his reports from inside Syria, and while he's sort of safe inside Turkey right now, I suspect as a journalist out there, he might well put himself in harm's way. If he died of illness, I'd say there'd be no chance of an obit, but if the press is willing to report on him not getting a visa, I think they'll report it if he gets blown up. If he does get killed, and those ungrateful bastards don't at least mention it, thus giving him a QO, then I hope he comes back and haunts the lot of them. Having said that, I'll admit he was a last minute addition to a theme team, and I'm not likely to choose him next year, when he's more forgotten and I've had more time to research.

I sent in Humam Husari, and added a note that sorry, I couldn't find an age for him. Felt bad about giving you the extra work. I've been digging, and just found this article dated October 2018, that mentions he was 32 at that point, so he's a solid 10 pointer for now no matter when his birthday is. Thanks! https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/oct/27/home-office-in-u-turn-over-syrian-journalist-humam-husari-barred-from-uk-rory-peck-award

Yeah, my spouse is bemused by it I think, but just finds it quirky. Nobody else knows I play. I understand about getting attached. I've never been able to pick Paul Darrow, because he was such a childhood hero of mine. I'm different, since I'm not an especially competitive person - I mean I do like to win, but mostly I just enjoy it as a game. Just a different personality. It also helps that I don't feel I have a chance in hell of winning! I do do some research, but there are people who put in a lot more research than I do, so I don't expect to beat them. I set my own goals - first year score some points, second year finish in the top 100, this year better my score from last time.

I look at it this way. I don't actually want these people to die, with a few exceptions, (I was perfectly happy to lose Ian Brady), and I'm happy if they beat the odds and make it. I'm really rooting for Greg Gilbert to survive for example, and I was sad when we lost Brian Cant, even though both were on my team. But if they die, despite my willing them on, I might as well have the points. Yes, good luck to all, and thanks to Spade and everyone else for the massive amount of work this must take. It's appreciated.

Tis true. But ye did welcome me aboard when I first arrived a couple of years ago, Cap'n, and I thank ye for that. You said you were hogging all the drink as well.

I'm confused. Not an unusual state of affairs for me. I've never posted on this board under another name. Do you think I'm Charon? I'm flattered, but no, I'm afraid not. I am the person who plays the Derby Dead Pool under the Charon's Crew name. This is my third year of playing, although I followed it as a non player for many years. I've been posting here since around the time I started playing it. Until this year, I had only one team, although this year I've also entered a theme team. But I've been around, even if unnoticed. I picked Jessica Falkholt last year, and commented to you about it back then. As Handrejka pointed out, (thanks Handrejka!), Charon is the ferryman of the dead, so it's an understandable coincidence. I was originally going to call my team Charon's Passengers, but then I liked Charon's Crew more. I didn't know there was already a user named Charon when I joined, but I wasn't surprised when I found out.

Why not a draw? They've both done well enough to top the board, maybe they should both get to bask in the glory.

I guess this is kind of the opposite of those people who die and don't get obits. Stumbled across this non qualifying article today, that seems to think Nobby Stiles is dead, even though he's not. Couple of other places ran the same article. Like Twain said "The report of my death was an exaggeration"...... https://www.pulse.com.gh/sports/football/football-seeks-answers-over-dementia-link-to-heading-id8963611.html

With conjoined twins, it might be possible for one conjoined twin to survive, if the other were to be surgically removed after death. That probably depends on how conjoined they are though. Separation surgeries are usually complex and take a long time - the remaining twin would probably be dead from infection before they had time to separate them. Twins that can be easily separated (only slightly joined) were probably already separated as babies. Sir Creep's twins share a set of organs, so I doubt they'd have time to do the delicate surgery. I'm not a doctor though.
