At this pace, Kabosu will be the last one standing to succeed to Carter… if ever he is mortal. How many immortals have Carter outlast now ?

is that some kind of april's fool ? I had a sense he wouldn't linger forever, hence my deliberate omission in the Hospitalization pool which turned out to be successful.

    French Deathlist 2024

I’m quite amazed by how good this list is doing actually and, not to jinkx ourselves, but I won’t be surprised now if we reach 18-20. The thing is last year was so dry in term of french deaths that a lot of lingerers are now, unsurprisingly, giving up. Condé was long overdue, so are Chirac, Marie France Garaud, Morin and Dumas. I wouldn’t rule out some other frails and ills to drop dead from nowhere (Le Pen, Delon, Laborde or Hardy). A few nonagenarian could also surprise us (Geminiani, Villalonga, Serre or Dumont) and I sense some unexpected hits such as Fontaine, Pivot, Renaud or Léaud. obit to come for Condé, probably tomorrow as I’m quite busy today also, to end the Clark’s debate, I just found out thanks to La Tombe that Sophia Loren was naturalized french. I’d say She doesn’t belong in such a french list as much of her work and notoriety has relied on her italian work.

    Derby Dead Pool 2024

Maryse Condé obit : https://www.theguardian.com/books/2024/apr/02/maryse-conde-guadelopean-grand-storyteller-dies-aged-90 third hit for my french theme team there, could have been more if I knew Brunhoff and Malaurie would have qo but they wouldn't have scored the same amount so… 25 points which makes me 4th in the theme team league, pretty good that far

    French Deathlist 2024

I was absolutely sure this would come soon, was about to make a post just a week ago, saying that the next hits would be Maryse Condé, Chirac or Marie France Garaud. Also a DDP pick of mine…

Will indeed face trial in october for misappropriation of 7 millions from the EU. His ill health could prevent him from attending the trial though.

Ahah no but I have paid subscription for Le Monde and they’re quite picky on who’s death deserve a breaking news, un like Ouest France and Le Parisien for example which send breaking News everytime the butcher from around the corner dies so I tend to take Le Monde as quality obits

    French Deathlist 2024

La Tombe explained it really well. As I say, Petula Clark made (more than) half her career in France, I think you’re not accustomed with this. It is a french speaking deathlist as jodorowski is in for example depsite being both french and chilian. I’d say if you wanna debate about that, first, try to learn about Petula’s impact and career in France or else, talk to me in private so we don’t pollute this thread unnecessaraly.

    French Deathlist 2024

As far as I can see, neither Bob Dylan or Woody Allen made half of their career in France, But feel free to join our committee if you have some more useful names to give To end this debate, we stick to Clark being on the list, Linda de Suza for example, despite being Portuguese, would have been qualified for our list as she based her career essentially on french market. I repeat, this is a french speaking deathlist. I suspect we will just keep Clark’s until her demise to piss people like you who don’t understand her impact in France and why she belongs in such a list.

    French Deathlist 2024

Petula Clark was chosen due to her long and illustrious career in France. She may not be french per se (I can’t find any info about french citizenship) but we did say « francophone personalities » and not « french » on the first page with the rules. Petula has had a long history with France which, we commonly thought, was enough to include her in a french speaking deathlist. This choice may be controversial but we can’t delete her now. Maybe we’ll replace her for next year, as she was in competition with Leslie Caron.

    French Deathlist 2024

22 march 2024 Hit n°8 Laurent de Brunh-off Babar's second father, Laurent de Brunhoff has died to provide our deathlist with a back-to-back success. De Brunhoff was born in 1925 in Paris in a illustrious family : his great-grandfather, Oscar the 1st was king of Norway and Sweden, his uncle Michel de Brunhoff, the founder of Vogue Paris and some other famous fashion magazines, and his own father was the creator of the worldly famous child comic book Babar. At the death of his father in 1937, Laurent de Brunhoff took control of the Babar's company at the young age of 13. He then produced 15 additional albums in the legacy of this father and became one of the most famous and prolixe french illustrators. He moved to the United States in his later life and died there aged 98 from complication of a stroke, to become the 8th hit of our list. He was selected this year at n°36 and even though we thought he had good chances of reaching 100, his death is a good reminder that not everyone who makes it to 98 makes it to 99… There is no teller when this deluge of hits will stop !
