It's an issue, all right, I find that I drive a lot less when fuel is expensive and tend to ride the motorcycle whenever possible. I've been looking into something with good mileage, but style seem to suffer.

    Fuel-watch Uk

Prices have dropped considerably in the past weeks here in Tennessee, as is typical for the season. Demand increases in the sunny months and prices follow suit. I drive a big SUV, an even bigger pickup truck and a very fuel inefficient Italian sports car, all of which make a fill up a major financial endeavour, even when prices are low. When the weather permits, I tend to ride my motorcycle.

Well, then, as long as you think so I'll change my opinion. Obviously I don't "know or understand" and as such am deserving of your pity. I see now that you are correct and that the Emperor is finely clothed.

So comparing a white man to a chimpanzee with the intent to ridicule is okay, but it's not okay if the subject being ridiculed is black? Yeah, context allows for double standards all the time. Bottom line is that Obama was elected more because he is black than in spite of it. 98% of black voters in the US voted for him, and most polled admitted it was because of his race. That's racism. The guy I voted for is white, but I didn't vote for him because he is white, I voted for him (not McCain) because he represented my views. Obama has stayed intentionally vague since his first foray into politics. I don't know what he stands for or intends to do. That kinda scares me.

If something like this were done with Obama everyone would be screaming racism.

What a very brave thing to admit to, HCW. I'll be braver than that, we also went to see Barry Manilow. That's not brave, that's... that's... that's, masochistic?

    Michael Crichton disproved that theory.

    A Joke

A guy answers the phone one morning, terribly hung over. His friend says, "Damn, you sound terrible, are you sick?" "Sort of," says our hung over hero, "I feel like sh*t. I got unbelievably hammered last night. I got soooo drunk, I came home and blew chunks!" "That doesn't sound so bad, we've all done that." replies the friend. "No, you don't understand, Chunks is my dog."

No, I associate it with the Roger Hargreaves character. He's purple, if that affects your little wager at all. Haha, guess I shouldn't have said only.

Another fine word hijacked for simply sounding like something it has nothing to do with.

Aaaand, he wins $100.00! I had a bet with a friend visiting here that even in England people associate the word "uppity" only with black people. It's a common word in the South, used more often towards peoples' own children than any race or creed. My apologies for any upset I might have caused any of you. I mourn and lament the loss of a very useful and descriptive word to the preconceptions and biases of apology. I will continue to be uppity, though, I consider it a virtue. Except when directed at me by my children. I am not racist in the least. I am, however, possessing of degrees in both English (from an American university, so, not so much English as American) and Philosophy and I do have issues with people who butcher or hijack the language regardless of their heritage. Uppity is a colorful (from the standpoint of it's flavor and meaning) yet colorless (from the standpoint that it does not have a necessary racial indication) word, and I for one will continue to warn my step-son against being same. I have tremendous respect for Obama as a speaker, as a person, and as a politician. He scares me from the standpoint that he is such an unknown quantity. I'm a "deeds not words" kind of guy, and all I can find about the President-elect's positions are his words. He seems to have a very contradictory history of deeds and associations. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic. I voted the Objectivist Party, by the way. My vote was counted in California where I also voted against the ban on gay marriage, which, by the way, 85% of black voters voted for, which confuses and confounds me. Another interesting statistic being ignored by the media, and that confuses and confounds me, is that 98% of black voters voted for Obama. Sorry, but that's racism. Statistically proven racism, as well. I will fade back into obscure monitoring again now, but thanks for the hundred bucks.

    Michael Crichton Dies!

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/11/05/...in4575403.shtml (CBS) Best-selling author and filmaker Michael Crichton died unexpectedly in Los Angeles Tuesday, after a courageous and private battle against cancer, according to a statement released by his family. He was 66. Crichton is best known as the author of "Jurassic Park" and the creator of "ER." His most recent novel, "Next," about genetics and law, was published in December 2006. "While the world knew him as a great story teller that challenged our preconceived notions about the world around us -- and entertained us all while doing so -- his wife Sherri, daughter Taylor, family and friends knew Michael Crichton as a devoted husband, loving father and generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the wonders of our world through new eyes," the statement said. "He did this with a wry sense of humor that those who were privileged to know him personally will never forget." Through his books, Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way all could understand. "He will be profoundly missed by those whose lives he touched, but he leaves behind the greatest gifts of a thirst for knowledge, the desire to understand, and the wisdom to use our minds to better our world," the statement added. Born in Chicago Oct. 23, 1942, Crichton graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College, received his MD from Harvard Medical School, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, researching public policy with Jacob Bronowski. He has taught courses in anthropology at Cambridge University and writing at MIT. Crichton's 2004 bestseller, "State of Fear," acknowledged the world was growing warmer, but challenged extreme anthropogenic warming scenarios. A private funeral service is expected, but no further details will be released to the public.

See, I don't get that. What pissed all the girls off about Sarah Palin? I get the religious zealot part, but that's common in the Republican Party. Overall, I kinda liked her. She was like the "approachable" cheerleader in high school. My problem with Obama, now that he's won, is the damned near across the board "empowerment" (meaning license to say racist stuff out loud and celebrate as if this were a "race-only" issue) actions of black people. Hell, my freaking accountant is black and is telling me he's "up on me" now. I sorta mentioned that I was considering not paying my bill and changing firms and that changed the conversation considerably, but, damn, and condemn me to hell if you want, the word "uppity" has tried to spring from my throat. It hasn't, but not without a struggle. In my opinion all this election has proved is something that most of us moderate white Americans have known for years; black people are intrinsically racist.

    President (recumbent) Barack Obama

Obama received 98% of the black vote, and people here still won't admit that it was race motivated and, as such, racist. I wanted neither of them, the only major party candidate I would have voted for was Ron Paul. (Because he's white, obviously. Not. But if that were the case it should be acceptable based on all those who voted for Obama based on his skin color.) This is going to be an interesting ride, of that I'm certain. I have recently moved to the South of this great land and had forgotten how deeply the racial divisions still were here. I would not be surprised if one or more of these nutbars made an attempt on his life before inauguration day.

    Deborah Jeane Palfrey

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7378654.stm If this is a suicide, I'm the Queen of England. She was on the Alex Jones (American talk radio blow-hard) show a couple of months ago talking about how she would be "suicided" and went on the record saying that she would never kill herself. Heres the interview: http://www.infowars.com/media/230707palfrey.mp3 No way this woman killed herself, her sentence was bound to be light and publishers were salivating like Pavlov's pooch to buy her story.
