Brilliant work! Had no idea about Driffing and Dyall being frail.

It feels wrong to talk about this but, assuming Bernard’s scenes do appear in Doctor Who next year, will he be the first Doctor Who actor to pass away between filming and broadcast? I know there was a strangely similar situation with Howard Atfield, who Bernard himself replaced, but his scenes filmed for “Partners in Crime” were cut. The other closest thing I can think of is how Peter Arne was cast in “Frontios” but murdered before shooting.

We won’t lose someone more universally beloved in the UK this year. Sad day. Bless him.
-
He’s 79. He does turn 80 next year.

I wonder if the BBC’s policies with confirmation are stopping them from reporting it? It seems like most of the press about FW’s death uses a tweet as the source.

Good call for a thread. I mentioned Sly as a possible candidate for 2022 in December, but he doesn't seem to be a name getting much traction here. He's had years of financial mismanagement and was reported to be homeless in 2011. That same year he entered rehab for cocaine addiction. That he's made it this far seems quite remarkable.

Please Let It Be... Paul McCartney

That’s a shame, he really was brilliant. The sound got messed up at the Olympics and probably threw him off. An off day, just a widely seen one. -
This is a bit off-topic but did you spot Sandie Shaw? She was announced as being there in advance but I didn't see her. She retired in 2013 and hasn't made a public appearance since she got her MBE in 2018. I'm a bit of a fan.

Good shouts! I was thinking more of people whose style wasn’t informed by rock and roll and R&B though, people who were crooners in the pre-rock style. There’s so many rock/R&B performers still going including almost every British rock and roller of the era.

She performed in Sandringham on Friday as part of something, but not on Saturday.

Shirley should’ve been at the concert, considering there were no Welsh, Scottish (unless you count Rod) or Northern Irish performers on the bill. Really weird.
-
Bless him. There will be a lot of “end of an era” talk when he goes, but are there any other notable male crooners left who were popular in the 1950s? I can only think of Dennis Lotis, born 1925, who was pretty popular in the UK despite never charting.

I’ve always thought she’ll make 98 at the very least and even now I can’t see any reason why she wouldn’t.

I have no horse in this race but I think this is a very useful thread. I've only ever seen Sir Creep be a pain in the neck that drags this forum down.

One thing I can't get my head around with Storch is how little he looks like the same person from F Troop. Even in the 80s, he didn't look much like himself. Some kind of eyelid or brow lift maybe?

Betty Driver Memorial Soapstar Superstar Thread

Had a feeling it was true. Utterly bizarre it wasn’t picked up, hopefully it still might be. -
I read in a Roy Wood FB group that his illness is related to diabetes, though I can’t be sure of the veracity. I really hope he gets better. To me, he is a total pop genius.

Rick Price, bassist with The Move (1969-71) and Wizzard (1972-75) has died at 77. https://www.facebook.com/153904371392613/posts/5038832329566435/?d=n Now he can hear the grass grow.

Do we think Dennis might've shaved a few years off his age, like many actors used to? I guess it's unlikely but he always looked about 5 years older than his official age.

I have his New Tricks co-star James Bolam on my list like a few others, but didn't see this coming at all. Sad news, loved him.

Good call DoorSlammer. I'm not sure if it's just the circles I'm in but Jodorowsky seems quite a big name to me. I can't see why he shouldn't be Deathlisty.

Ah, sorry to see him go. He was one of my DDP subs. Whoops!

People Who Are Dead According To Wikipedia...
TheKeysOfMarinus replied to Vaagheid's topic in DeathList Forum
Wow - that should be big news. He was one of the show’s most recognisable faces at one point. As a kid, I watched it for him! I hope, if it is true, the family confirm it to the press. R. Dean Taylor’s recent death going hardly noticed was sad. -
For those keeping score (no one), Lynda Baron's death closes the book on regular cast members for Oh No It's Selwyn Froggitt (1974 - 1978).

I’d like to put in a shout for Gary Brooker. Maybe not such a big name but, in terms of global reach, he was the voice of one of the few records to sell over 10 million copies worldwide.
