Brian Godding, guitarist and primary songwriter with the British cult pop psych group Blossom Toes, has died at 78 according to messages left by friends and family on his Facebook page. Blossom Toes weren’t very successful but their records are highly sought after today. He later played with jazz / progressive acts like the Mike Westbrook Band, Centipede and Magma.

I guess if Pete doesn’t do a Boxing Day show for Boom Radio this year, that’ll be a clue.

These two statements conflict.

I love that album, good call.

God, what a banger.

Manfred Mann is quite a notable one - their entire original lineup is still with us and yet they've never fully reformed.

Gareth Miles, Welsh-language author and translator who was one of the founders of campaign group Cymdeithas yr Iaith (the Welsh Language Society), has died at 85.

"Dream Weaver" hitmaker (and original Spooky Tooth keyboardist, 60s freaks) Gary Wright has died, according to singer Stephen Bishop on Twitter. No official reports yet.

Thought it was worth mentioning some of the members of the Quarrymen here, as I saw them live recently. There are seven members still living including McCartney. The band reformed back in the 90s and do occasional gigs. I saw them last month and there are only two original members performing now (banjo player Rod Davis, b. 1942, and drummer Colin Hanton, b. 1938). They mentioned on stage that John Duff Lowe (piano, b. 1942) and Len Garry (tea-chest bass, b. 1942) are too unwell to perform now. Lowe hasn't performed with the band since 2017, but Garry's retirement is new. The two other remaining members are Bill Smith (1940) and Nigel Walley (1941), neither of whom have ever joined the reformed band. Of those six, Hanton and Lowe are probably the most notable as they appeared on the Quarrymen's "That'll Be the Day" and "In Spite of All the Danger", recorded straight-to-disc at Phillips' Sound Recording Services in 1958. These are the first studio recordings of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison and appear on the Beatles' Anthology 1.

Sad about Nick Hitchon. That series carries so much emotion and he’s possibly the participant I liked the most in it.

Definitely not a mobile as he was, sadly. He attended the unveiling of a plaque for Eddie Cochran at Bristol Hippodrome on 22 April using two canes and a walker with a seat. Next to him with the purple jumper is Vince Eager (83). I remember reading at the time that legendary drummers Brian Bennett (83) and Clem Cattini (85) were going to be there, but it looks like they weren't.

Then I’m sure he can decide what he thinks of my comment for himself.

I was expecting there to be some news that prompted this thread creation. There is no reason to expect Alan Price will croak any sooner than any other 60s musicians of the same age.

What reporting? All I can see is a load of people who've decided it must be him and their only evidence is that he hasn't denied it yet.

A name I don't believe has been mentioned on here before. Annye C. Anderson (b. 1926) is the half-sister of bluesman Robert Johnson – she was 12 when he died. Her memoir Brother Robert was published in 2020 and she has made in-person appearances promoting it as recently as February. Might well obit as she is the last living person who knew Johnson.

It has got to be fake. A lot of British TV attracts people who like to make their own custom “official” material based around it (YouTube is full of niche fake BBC One trailers and the like) and I can imagine this being someone’s extension of that.

Someone’s just edited her Wiki infobox to say she died today. On closer inspection, it looks like they’ve tried to do this three times previously in the last few weeks. Probably just a vandal?

People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive
TheKeysOfMarinus replied to Catherine's topic in DeathList Forum
Robinson’s obviously the bigger star now but Eddy probably sold more records than him in the 60s. Certainly had more hits. -
He seemed misunderstand two of Kirsty Young’s questions in a row. Probably just hearing loss - it’s just amazing that he is still up for a live television interview.

Ack! First time I’ve managed that. Sad to see one of the greats go.

I think this might be it. 89 is a dangerous age for an old comic - Max Bygraves, Eric Sykes, Bill Maynard, Warren Mitchell etc

can’t stomach either bloke. fantastic journalism going on.

how's that coffee coming along sir creep?

Aw, he looks good but it’s a bit sad to see one of the youngest British pop stars of the 1960s struggling.
