African Leaders - Despots and Democratic

Mauritania's former President/dictator (1980-1984) Mohamed Khouna Ould Haidalla was hospitalised again in February, then in June and has now been in a military hospital for around four months. This picture is from August when he was visited by the current president. Post says: During the past few months, former Mauritanian President Mohamed Khouna Ould Haidala has suffered several health problems, as a result of which he has been admitted to intensive care multiple times.

    Khaleda Zia

A short history February 2018: JAILED IN ORPHANAGE AND CHARITABLE TRUST CASE. Right after, hospitalised in "critical conditions". October 2018: Hospitalised, "extremely ill and becoming paralyzed" December 2019: Amnesty calls to guarantee access to good healthcare for Khaleda, which she has always had. January 2020: Said to be "crippled" March 2020: RELEASED FOR SIX MONTHS on humanitarian grounds with the conditions that she would stay near her home and not travel abroad. This apparently came after a 11-month hospitalisation. Her sentence has been suspended again multiple times since due to "ill health" May 2020: "Receiving treatment at home" September 2020: "Needs to be taken abroad for medical treatment" April 2021: Gets covid. Unsuprisingly, they downplayed it when she was on oxygen and genuinely ill. After she likely recovered, continues to be hospitalised in ICU/CCU for two months. Now, this is where the "fun" part begins. October 2021: In ICU after minor surgery, then later in ICU after another surgery. November-December 2021: Fighting for her life with CKD, decompensated cirrhosis, heart disease, diabetes complications, arthritis, cataracts and everything else and can only be saved with a magical German liver shunt that must be put into her in Germany or some other European nation. Suffers internal bleeding around 7 times and "between life and death" each time. February 2022: Discharged because that didn't work. April 2022: Hospitalised, but discharged some days later. June 2022: CCU with heart attack and massive blockages in her heart. August 2022: Hospitalised twice April 2023: Hospitalised June 2023: Fighting for her life again. September-October 2023: The usual "fighting for her life" bullshit again. Even Superstar Billy never took the fake dying to these lengths.

Roger Golubski, Kansas detective/rapist/the guy who framed John Keith Calvin and helped run a teenager sex trafficking operation, not in great health and victims fear he'll die before trial. (Chronic renal failure, diabetes complications, quintuple bypass last year)

    The Ones That Got Away...

Ezra Yachin not dead yet, but has enlisted in the IDF as an "active reservist". Well, getting killed is a good way to avoid getting sent to a nursing home. Edit: Might've been one of the perpetrators of the 1948 Deir Yassin massacre too...Maybe YoungWillz is right.

One of the Hamas co-founders, Abdul Fattah Dukhan, dead at 86 in Gaza. Either killed or natural causes (some sources say killed, other sources say he died from a "long illness"), god knows as he'd looked like a zombie for years.

    Who are the immortals?

Thimmakka stable and steadily recovering... Speaking to DH, Thimmakka, said that she was feeling ‘okay’. “I am eating well here and talking to everyone. Everything is good here, I feel better.” Adopted son says “Last time we were in the hospital, some plants died due to no water. We couldn’t let that happen again so I have been checking in over the phone” "112" (~95), COPD, heart attack + surgery two days ago, spinal fracture some months ago. I can't wrap my mind around how they seem to think she'll make a full recovery.

    Businesspeople, Investors, CEO's

Robert Kuok reached 100 two days ago, but I don't think he has made any kind of a birthday appearance and there seems to be no info on how he celebrated, so I'm assuming the once indestructible billionaire might be nearing his end. Of course Li Ka-shing was well enough to congratulate him. How many Asian billionaires there are left born in the 1920s? (on Forbes lists, therefore excluding Sheikhs such as that one Kuwaiti immortal and politicians) - Robert Kuok (1923, 100) $10.4B, Malaysia, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Kuok Group, Wilmar. - Nobutoshi Shimamura (1926, 97) $1.4B, Japan, Shimamura Co discount retailers. - Goh Cheng Liang (1927, 96) $11.3B, Singapore, Nippon Paint. Extremely reclusive, but owns the largest tri-hull superyacht in the world. - Lee Shau-kee (Feb 1928, 95) $26.4B, Hong Kong, founder of property development giant Henderson Land. In failing health. - Shi Wen-long (Feb 1928 - Nov 2023, 95) $1.8B, Taiwan, founder of Chi Mei Corporation, the largest maker of ABS resin in the world. - Li Ka-shing (Jul 1928, 95) $36.7B, Hong Kong, CK Hutchison Holdings and CK Asset Holdings. Richest man in Hong Kong and still doing quite well. - Suhon Lin/Lin Shu-hong (Aug 1928, 95) $6.6B, Taiwan, Chang Chun Group petrochemical company. - Wee Cho Yaw (Jan 1929, 94) $7B, Singapore, United Overseas Bank and UOL Group. Stepped down some months ago. - Mochtar Riady (May 1929, 94) $1.4B, Indonesia, Lippo Group. Controversial and has looked half-dead for atleast a decade. - Lui Che-woo (Aug 1929, 94) $12.8B, Hong Kong, casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group and property developer K Wah. - Kwong Siu-hing (Dec 1929, 93) $12.3B, Hong Kong, Sun Hung Kai Properties. I think that's all? Siu-hing's health is an interesting case...she still allegedly controls Sun Hung Kai Properties but she looked quite frail already in August 2013: Yes, the news articles likely use images that are from 15 years ago. Sulaiman Al Rajhi (1929, 94) had a net worth of 11 billion in 2006, but he allegedly donated so much between 2006 and 2015 that he's currently "just" a millionaire. Semahat Sevim Arsel (1928, 95) is a bit debatable but I wouldn't completely count Turkey as Asia...same for Israel.

    Who are the immortals?

Saalumarada Thimmakka re-hospitalised again with respiratory failure but...recovering and to be discharged in a few days. Edit: Noticed that Ingrid Arvidsson, antepenultimate survivor of the 10/10 pool from 2016, died a few months ago not mentioned on the forum when that happened. Her death left Fauja and Saalumarada the last surviving picks there. Judging on her condition I'd say Fauja will end up the last survivor.

Azerbaijani oil boss Khoshbakht Yusifzadeh (who I was planning to use in some pools next year due to his amusing name) unexpectedly and tragically dead at 93. Atleast I still have Sheila Sithole, Thammarak Isarangkura na Ayudhaya, Legqog, Narayan Man Bijukchhe and of course Justus ǁGaroëb.

    Rumours

Lots of rumors on Russian social media and news that Ukrainian politician/oligarch Andriy Klyuyev who was one of pro-Russia president Yanukovych's closest allies before Euromaidan (head of the Presidential Administration, first Deputy Prime Minister & head of the National Security and Defense Council) is in a Moscow hospital, possibly in coma. Edit: Gazeta and Lenta both reporting he's on ECMO following multiple organ failure...

    Ideas and possibilities for 2024

If you have a Thich Nhat Hanh-shaped hole on your pool teams, you might want to try sticking in the major Buddhist leader Ajahn Sumedho, 90 next year: He still occasionally does speeches at the Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in Hertfordshire UK but not as frequently as he once did.
