Foreign Personalities, From Stage, Screen, Politics And Life

Giddes/Giddess/Gidesi Chalamanda performing again for the first time since his serious illness in June, "impeccably in tune with the band and even commanded the rhythm". He and Eritrean Bereket Mengisteab seem indestructible. Both very old, quite frail and the most notable musicians ever from their (small, obscure and very low on the HDI) countries, both still performing. I think with both of them there's a small chance of a BBC obituary as I recall a lot of quite obscure African musicians have gotten mentions when they've died. Some examples, John Nzenze and Hudeidi in 2020, Tshala Muana and Ethiopia's Honky Tonk Nun last year.

Foreign Personalities, From Stage, Screen, Politics And Life

Manuel Díaz González, bullfighter and son of THE bullfighter El Cordobés (both called El Cordobés for whatever reason) hospitalised after an accident (impaled by a bull, apparently). He's in his 50s and an active bullfighter and he's had around 5 accidents since 2017 including last month when he was in ICU and on IV meds, he has two hip replacements but seems he just can't retire. (Benítez Pérez) El Cordobés himself had an emergency heart surgery some years ago.

Hiroyuki Hosoda to step down next month. Rumors on the internet that Nigeria tourism minister Lola Ade-John has been poisoned and is fighting for her life.

    Non-British Royals

Christoph, Prince of Schleswig-Holstein, since 1980 head of the houses of Glücksburg and Oldenberg (that have apparently ruled half of Europe's current monarchies at some point) dead at 74.

    Who are the immortals?

Saalumarada re-hospitalised with fever on tuesday but again discharged by ambulance and in 24/7 care at home now. Age somewhere around 95 with COPD, osteoporosis and a long health history. I'd say she'll...recover fully in around a week.

    Russell M Nelson

Won't attend general conference due to lower back injury (had a fall recently). Edit: Salt Lake Tribune says his fall happened two days after the picture above was taken. He says he's "slowly recovering" but he "can't sit in a chair for long periods of time".

    Wrestlers/actors

Interviews from Hamilton Comic Con a week ago: Abdullah the Butcher: Looks like he usually does, sounds frail but I'm suprised he's still mentally still there. Tony Atlas: Sounds a bit frail, but judging on how he looks I think he won't go during the next 5 years. Hacksaw Jim Duggan: Looks and sounds absolutely amazing for a 69-year-old former wrestler with a plethora of health issues. But also considering his health issues he could drop dead in months. On Manu, I'm suprised both the Wild Samoans (Afa Anoa'i the senior who is Manu's father and Sika Anoa'i) are still alive. 80 and 78. Impressive longevity for wrestlers, both have outlived one of their children and both over eight years above the life expectancy of the average Samoan.

Why no Indians ever in DeathList?

CM/overlord of the state of Telangana (population 35 million) K. Chandrashekar Rao has been treated at home by his medical team for a week now for fever. Recovering and only 69 years old, but one to keep an eye on, he's been rumored ill for years and his 2009 "death fast" left him with some heart problems.

    Hospitalised!

John Tembo hospitalized with (atleast) pneumonia, dehydration and serious diabetes complications, prayers asked. Might (with powerful ally Cecilia Kadzamira who was the second-most powerful person in Malawi from the 1960s) or might've not ordered killings of political opponents in the 1990s when old dictator and later DL hit Banda was in failing health.

    Sheikh Down

Kuwaiti royal and Governor of Ahmadi Governorate 1962-1985 Sheikh Jaber Al-Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Kuwaiti royal and 1960s Minister Sheikh Mubarak Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah (ar wiki) widely reported dead at 93 online. Edit: Now I'm confused. It seems it's Sheikh Mubarak Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah who's dead (previously thought to have been born 1932, but now 1930), and the mention I quoted is this guy, Sheikh Jaber, who is probably still alive at 93. Sheikhs, confusing as usual.

    Giorgio Napolitano

Italian President 2006-2015 and Senator for Life, Giorgio Napolitano (b. 1925) Frail after an aorta surgery in 2018, the popular pool pick and kingmaker in Italian politics will be 96 next month. His political career started in 1944, joined the Communist Party in 1945 and elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1953. After he became the President of Italy in 2006 at the age of 80, he turned the role of the President of Italy from a ceremonial role to a very influential one. He was re-elected in 2013 at the age of 87 but resigned in 2015 at the age of 89. After that he has focused on growing more spots on the top of his head. Which one will go first, Napolitano or Berlusconi?

    Minimalists (and other classical composers/musicians)

The legends John Williams (91) and Seiji Ozawa (88) earlier this month: Williams seems to be doing excellent for 91. Well enough to travel to Japan, conduct there, walk around without aid. Ozawa has advanced dementia and other ailments and while he has been ill for years his health seems to have declined a lot again since his previous appearance 10 months ago.

    Dead Danes

Count Ingolf of Rosenborg (mentioned twice on this forum before, including page 1 of this thread) might make a good pool pick for next year, but he also might have a bit of future immortal potential in him. 84 next year, he has suffered from COPD for atleast 14 years, heart problems, "close to dying" in 2010, serious pneumonia in 2020 and also ill in 2021. If you look at any picture of him from the last decade he looks very discolored and clearly unwell.

    Ion Iliescu

Hospitalised yesterday "urgently" due to discomfort, his wife with him in hospital, rumored dead on facebook, but apparently has already been discharged in "relatively good condition". Edit: Or maybe he's been sent home to die?

    The Rabbi Thread

Rabbi Zuriel Shaked prematurely dead at 103. Seems to cement conservative rabbi and author Erwin Schild (who's 103 and has been on oxygen since 2015) as the world's oldest rabbi.

Foreign Personalities, From Stage, Screen, Politics And Life

I think if Fischer is dead it'd make Ilmari Koppinen both the oldest and the last "major" masters athlete born in the 1910s (well, of course Frauda Singh is still alive and will end up outliving Koppinen and all of us...also, Koppinen has survived his "archnemesis" Emiel Pauwels by nearly 10 years). It also seems that most of the centenarian "icons" of masters athletics have died and the new ones haven't gained that much attention (with the exception of Hurricane Hawkins and Sawang Janpram). Edit, well...Here, those born in/before 1925, excluded the most minor boring names, US-only names with italic: Fauja Singh BEM ("1911") Sikh Tornado, likely around 15 years younger. Nihal Gil (1915?/1916?-Dead) "Nippy", Canadian and won gold in the Americas Masters games in 2016. As far as I know, no news since and should be dead. Julia Hawkins (1916) Known as "Hurricane Hawkins", got a lot of media attention for breaking records at 105 two years ago. Not much on her since, but I doubt she would die off-radar. Ella Mae Colbert (1916-2023) 100 meters dash recordbreaker 2016. B. 11 May 1916. Very frail now. Frederico Fischer (1917) Recordbreaker, most recent news around 2020. Rambai ("1917") "Grand Old Lady of Indian Athletics", but likely another complete fraud and only got notable during the last few years. Ilmari Koppinen (1918) Professor. Still very active and competing for decades. E. Gerald Meyer (1919) four gold medals at a 2019 US Senior Games, but a bit more known for being a chemist. Sawang Janpram (1920?) Current recordbreaker covered by Inside Edition last year. Trained by his septuagenarian daughter. Lester Wright Sr (1922) Broke Pellmann's record of M100 100 meters at Penn Relays but didn't reach Frauda's scores. His wife of 80 years died in June. Roy Englert (1923) Senior Games current champion. Toshio Kamehama (1925) Last year he broke the M95 record at 200 meters, but his record was broken last month. Could die off-radar unless he becomes the next Golden Bolt and competes until 100+. Lauri Helle (1925) M95 weight throw recordbreaker. Wrote his most recent column a week ago. I think the most impressive however is Earl Fee (1929) who was breaking M65, M70 records in the 1990s and is still competing and breaking records at 90+.

    Gangster, Gangster

"El Narco de Narcos" Rafael Caro Quintero, Mexican major cartel boss, former FBI Ten Most Wanted lister and close associate of drug lords Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo and Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, hospitalised for surgery and treatment of a prostate ailment he's suffered from for a while. I think it's quite a miracle Quintero, Carrillo and Gallardo are all three still alive at 70, 93 and 77 and all (especially Carrillo and Gallardo) have been quite ill for a while.

Foreign Personalities, From Stage, Screen, Politics And Life

Lenita Airisto, 86, Finnish businesswoman, tv journalist, contestant in Miss Universe 1954 and feminist icon rumored to be in hospital/very ill. Up until recently one of those few current nonagenarian/octogenarian Finnish celebrities who've appeared very frequently on tv. I'd put dancer/tv face Aira Samulin (96), maybe politicians Jaakko Iloniemi (91) and Elisabeth Rehn (88), singers Pirkko Mannola, Eino Grön (both 84) and Danny (80) in the same group, all very notable in Finland and people who'll likely die once they stop appearing on tv/aren't interviewed anymore. I've known people who've worked with/known some of them, apparently Airisto and Grön are very nice, Danny is fine, Mannola is quite arrogant and Samulin is notoriously horrible to be around but has always been treated very well by the media. Edit: Oh, and of course Seela Sella (86).

    Political Frailty

Abdul Taib Mahmud back in Malaysia following a 3-month hospitalisation in Turkey for treatment of a serious bowel obstruction (and possibly cancer). On the others, Musa Hitam had a brain surgery in April. Michael Chen made an appearance in January and looked like a corpse. Also, Badawi's dementia has worsened a lot during the last year and he's slowly starting to look like those very old Japanese women. A very frail list. Edit: Sirajuddin of Perlis (not on the list) has also had a multiple-month hospitalisation recently.
