    Life In Prison

Francis Clifford Smith (born 1st September 1924) has been in prison for 70 years, 282 days for the murder of a nightwatchman during a yacht club robbery in July 1949. If he's still alive in 21 days, he'll break the record of "longest prison sentence served" Currently this record is held by French Australian Charles Fossard (c. 1882-1974) who was in prison for 70 years and 303 days. There are four other prisoners who have been in jail for over 60 years, all Americans: John Phillips (born around 1933) since 1952 Walter H. Bourque Jr. (born ca. 1938) since 1955 Warren Nutter (born ca. 1938) since 1956 Kenneth Nicely (born ca. 1939) since 1958

    African Despots

Just remembered Fikre Selassie Wogderess's death and was wondering how many former Ethiopian rulers are alive. I checked and there are only four: The oldest and worst one of course being old Mengistu. Still alive at 83. Mulatu Teshome (b. 1957) is the only other former head of state alive. He was the president from 2013 to 2018. Tamrat Layne (b. 1955) prime minister of the transitional government between 1991 and 1995 is still alive, too. And of course Hailemariam Desalegn (born 1965) who was the prime minister between 2012 and 2018.

    Nazi of SS

According to wikipedia's list of notable surviving ww2 veterans there are 4 people alive with a wikipedia page who served in the SS. The only one with an English wikipedia is Gerhard Sommer. The three others are interesting cases, all Estonian: Raimund Johannes Piirvee (1923-2011) Forester and ecologist. The Estonian wiki for some reason hasn't marked him dead, but he died in Canada in 2011: https://www.marshallwdrivercremationandburialservice.ca/obituary/Raimund-Piirvee https://www.geni.com/people/Raimund-Johannes-Piirvee/6000000064787412834 Hans Ots (1921-2018) Scientist and engineer. Again, the Estonian wiki hasn't marked him dead but he died in Australia in 2018: https://www.geni.com/people/Hans-Ots/6000000027669742316 Ülo Lepik (born 1921) Mathematician and academian. Much more active and alive than the two others, even has a linkedin page and contact info, including his email So actually there are only two.

    From Cleric To Relic

Recommendations for your lists: I did some searching and read about the Four Heavenly Kings of Taiwan. As wikipedia says, "The Four Heavenly Kings of Taiwan refers to four masters in Taiwanese Buddhism who each founded an influential Buddhist institution in the country." They are (and two were) Master Sheng-Yen (1931-2009) Master Hsing Yun (born 1927) Alive, but had a stroke in 2011. Rumored to be suffering from a number of health issues including diabetes and near blindness. Master Cheng Yen (born 1937) Alive, no health issues mentioned on wikipedia but her parents had a lot of them. Master Wei Chueh (1928-2016) Hsing Yun has also been picked in some pools before.
