    Noam Chomsky

Doesn't look great (however he can still walk, talk well and hasn't lost his marbles) in this interview but this whole video is weird. First of all he walks into the interview and tells that he has to cancel/reschedule it because he "doesn't have time". Chomsky later mentions that the interviewer missed the time the interview was supposed to start... The interviewer guy seems very disrespective and urges Chomsky to answer his questions. And what really annoys me is that he stops the call when Chomsky is saying "Thank you, glad to be-" I wonder if the boy even knows who he is interviewing.

    Death Anniversary Thread

I was reading an article about her today, she had quite an interesting life. She smoked like a chimney until she was 83, drank a lot and caused gaffes by having lots of sexual relationships with men and women, including two other artists and a parliament member. Drew caricatures of Hitler and Stalin before and during WWII, however some of the Stalin ones were censored during the war. She attended the Independence Day Reception of 1992 with her partner Tuulikki Pietilä: Smoking and drinking had an effect on her health as she had both lung cancer and breast cancer in the 1990s, suffering an intracranial hemorrhage in 2000 and dying a year later. Her brother, Per Olov Jansson (1920-2019) lived to 98.

    Nazi of SS

So how many are there left? (out of the ones that have attracted some media attention, "notable" ones and the somewhat high-ranking ones) Estonian mathematician and academic Ülo Lepik who has a (estonian) wikipedia page, 100 next month, is probably the last SS veteran notable from other reasons than war crimes. Gerhard Sommer is the last notable SS veteran to have an English wikipedia page. However these ones who were in news once or twice for being accused of war crimes might very well die off radar. Even Sommer could've already have died, as he's had Alzheimer's for a very long time now. However I'm sure that if Lepik dies, Estonian news will mention it. I wouldn't expect him to die very soon though, as he's still working, uses the internet, has an email adress and looks pretty great for someone near 100. Picture from 2020:

April 2021: The veterans in the picture are, from left to right: Yevgeny Kuropatkov (b. 1923?), Battle of Stalingrad veteran Roger Dore (b. ca. 1922) French WWII veteran Nikolai Kulpv (b. 1922/1923) Normandie-Niemen Fighter Regiment veteran Charles Norman Shay (b. 1924) Native American veteran, in a wheelchair in the picture but attended D-Day celebration this June as the only veteran to attend, so he's still in a quite good shape. Former First Ladies

I just found out that she's still alive a few days ago. Wouldn't have thought she would be, as Sadat was assasinated in 1981 and was already in his 60s back then. There are a ton of other widows of former African leaders, too... Mobutu Sese Seko's widow Bobi Ladawa (b. 1945), Mohamed Boudiaf's widow Fatiha Boudiaf (b. 1944), Thomas Sankara's widow Mariam Sankara (b. 1953), Ahmed Sekou Toure's widow Andree Toure (b. 1934), Hilla Limann's widow Fulera Limann (b. 1945), Canaan Banana's widow Janet Banana (b. 1938)...the list goes on and on. Ones that fascinate me the most however are Farimang Mamadi Singateh's (1912-1977, last Governor-General of Gambia) widow Fanta Singateh (b. 1929), Jomo Kenyatta's (1897?-1978, first President of Kenya) widow Ngina Kenyatta (b. 1933) and Ivory Coast's first President Félix Houphouët-Boigny's (1905-1993) widow Marie-Thérèse Houphouët-Boigny (b. 1930).
