Most Surprising DeathList Celebrity Omission
arghton replied to The Daredevil's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Of those never picked, Jiang Zemin's not been mentioned yet. Although not as notable as his predecessor (who was on DL seven times before dying) he was the former leader of the world's most populated country, was in failing health for his last ten years and was never picked. There were already strong health rumors in late 2011. Emperor Hirohito in 1989. He was gravely ill with internal bleeding and terminal cancer for months before dying at the start of January -
Indian gangster politician, former Member of India's parliament Atique Ahmed and his brother Ashraf shot dead on live tv. Atique or Atiq Ahmad had already been sentenced to life in jail for kidnappings and murders and he and his brother were apparently on their way to a medical checkup.

Kenneth Cope looking like he might live yet another year in this image that's apparently from yesterday: DL 2024 if that happens? He's had COPD for 18 years now.

Imelda today with her old friends, immortals lister and ex-PM Cesar Virata and Estelito Mendoza: And all three looking better than usual.

More controversy on Oommen Chandy's health condition: https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/former-cm-s-brother-requests-medical-board-to-monitor-oommen-chandy-s-health-during-bengaluru-treatment-101681413622353.html He's been in hospital for treatment for around two months now and allegedly only left for an easter trip. His brother and some of his family claim he isn't receiving proper treatments for his throat cancer but instead "Christian spiritual healing". By far the most boring case of Indian politician with endless health issues...atleast the other ones haven't had Schrödinger's terminal and curable cancer.

Kelvin Felix in hospital again according to a facebook post from some Dominican parish a week ago and they're asking for prayers. Circling the drain and I doubt he'll see 2024. -

Now his kidneys and breathing are getting better and he's "been constantly improving for 72 hours". The question is...are they lying or is he actually improving and even if he's improving, could it be terminal lucidity? We'll see.

After no deaths since July last year... Ben Ferencz 7 April 2023 Kenneth McAlpine 8 April 2023 Leaves two survivors from the original list - Josip Manolic and John Cruickshank.

Improving, "chemotherapy and antibiotics are having the expected effects and there is a general improvement" and Deputy PM Tajani says they hope to have him on stage at some event next month.

Indian movie singer (?) Pastham Mogilaiah critically ill after suffering heart attack while on dialysis. In late March I saw news of him having irrepairable kidney damage and kidney failure but I chose not to post it as I didn't really know who he was. There's a more known guy from the same Indian state with a very similar name, but this is apparently someone whose largest claim to fame is having performed in a Telugu "blockbuster" movie called Balagam, released this year. Pastham doesn't have a Wikipedia page. Kunduru Jana Reddy, Indian Telangana (earlier Andra Pradesh) politician hospitalised after suffering heart attack, stable.

Happy Birthday to my longtime 20/20 pick (and former Finance Minister of Sri Lanka/Ceylon who made the country a free market economy) Ronnie de Mel, 98 today! -
VS Achuthanandan, Violeta Chamorro, Tin Oo and Ma Shitu are also strong competitors I'd say. But in the end Kissinger will end up outliving all of them.* Zhang Lixiong made a rare appearance last month...apparently he's in hospital again: That's a nasogastric tube, high flow nasal cannula and atleast one other tube going into him. And there's also an IV pole and whatever else in the background. Yet apparently they say he's in good health and looking at the images on Weibo in good mood, seems able to talk with people, sits straight and holds the bouquet they gave him. *Edit: I'd add Sheikh Salem to the list. On his Immortal CV...he had ICU stays atleast in the early 2000s and after suffering seemingly hypoxia and cardiac arrest (possibly also internal bleeding) due to severe gastrointestinal perforation he underwent tracheotomy (see around 1:13 in this video - that clip is from 2007) and following a two and a half year recovery at hospitals somehow recovered and returned to Kuwait in January 2010. He had hospitalisations in February-March 2013, September 2018, December 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021...in 2020 he was critically ill, Kuwaiti social media users have for the last few years been saying "I pray for his recovery" or something similar every time he's being talked about. He's had death rumors atleast in February 2013, and multiple ca. 2018-2021. For next year in addition to Big Jiew I'd suggest atleast Kundera, Than Shwe, Yael Dayan, Shibu Soren, JM Le Pen, Berlusconi, Irenaios of Crete, Jerry Lawler and Rupert Murdoch if they make it. Doubt more than one or two of them will make it though.

1989 (IBA/AIBA) bantamweight world amateur boxing champion Enrique Carrión is currently hospitalized in Angola with some mystery ailment. Looks frail but apparently doesn't know why he's hospitalised.
-
Turkish actor Rana Cabbar hospitalised and in ICU but doctors say his health is good. Zafrullah Chowdhury "critical but stable", hospital holds meeting and forms a medical board to treat him. They're not going to let him die so easily.

Reading on Shecky Greene, impressive he's made it to 97. Sarcoma of the ribs in 1976 that resulted in the removal of three ribs, cancer, hip transplant, throat surgery in the 1990s, manic depression, bipolar disorder, panic attacks, gambling addiction, severe alcoholism (and atleast one drunken car crash), drug addiction (nardil, SPAM and other benzos), total hip replacement around 2002, leg fracture in 2017 and other stuff. Someone on Facebook says he's still in good spirits.

Zvi Dershowitz, LA Sinai Temple rabbi dead at 94. Sinai Temple owns Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery at Hollywood Hills where for example Bob Saget, Don Rickles and Sid Caesar are buried.
-
Cui Naifu, China's Minister of Civil Affairs 1982-1993 dead at 94/95. As far as I know he was at the time of his death one of the oldest living Chinese ministers...The older ones according to Wikipedia are Song Ping (105), Zou Yu (102), Zheng Tuobin (99), He Jingzhi (98), Wang Bingqian (97), Zou Jiahua (96), depending on when Cui Naifu was born maybe also Zhu Rongji (94), Yang Zhenhuai 杨振怀 (94) and Lü Peijian (94). Zhenhuai and Peijian are the only ones not mentioned here before. Edit: There's also Lin Zongtang 林宗棠 (96), former Minister of the Aerospace Industry and Huan Yicheng 黄毅诚 (96) Energy Minister and great friend of Russia.

From "Whose death will actually break your heart?" Ingvar Hirdwall widely being reported dead at 88, no cause of death given but seems like it was unexpected as he was still working as far as I know. Always loved his acting especially in the Swedish crime drama movie series (Martin) Beck as detective Martin Beck's weird neighbour Valdemar. -
Portia Simpson-Miller, Prime Minister of Jamaica 2006-2007 and 2012-2016 hospitalised but "doing well in hospital".
-
Taiwan first ladies have all made it to great ages (84, 85, 88, 90, 103, 105 and Tseng Wen-hui's 97) but first lady 2000-2008 (and former Legislative Yuan member) Wu Shu-chen might become an exception. She's been paralyzed and wheelchairbound since an assasination attempt in 1985, has a history of hospitalisations and was suffering from cancer of the eyelid last year. Looks quite frail in that image too.
-
Bangladesh health activist Zafrullah Chowdhury now himself being reported critically ill with kidney failure and the South Asia classic "other old age complications" Edit: "Old-age complications" apparently meaning heart, lung, kidney failure + sepsis

Eight men crucified in the Philippines. Oldest of them are Wilfredo Salvador, 66 and Ruben Enaje, 62. It's Enaje's 34th and possibly last time.
