The oldest one I'm a hundred percent sure is still alive is Yutakayama Katsuo, 86. The next major sumo deaths are probably going to be Kitanofuji Katsuaki (81) who has been in hospital for around a year now with heart failure and Takamiyama Daigoro (79) who was the heaviest wrestler of his generation and I remember he fairly recently said somewhere he "won't live much longer". I wouldn't be suprised if Akebono Tarō (former top-level sumo wrestler who permanently ruined his life by getting into show wrestling, kickboxing and MMA and now has enormous heart issues and likely CTE) clung on to life for years, his family clearly wants to keep him alive.

Akebono dead as mentioned in the Wrestlers thread. One of the greatest sumo wrestlers of his generation, well-respected, but from what I understand local controversy (he dated a Japanese pop singer, that relationship wasn't widely accepted there) on his personal life lead to his 1990s financial trouble that caused him to get into MMA, show wrestling and kickboxing. It seems he wasn't much more than a freak show there.

Kitanofuji is still presumably in hospital with severe heart problems, completely incapacitated and will likely die any day now. It'll be interesting to see if Takamiyama Daigoro will be at Akebono's funeral as he trained him.

Mentioning Eero Blåfield, 101-year-old WWII vet, HIFK superfan, oldest member of the Blåfield noble family who I remember was in the news once over a decade ago due to his senior badminton career. Looks quite frail now

The President of Finland invited some veterans and Lotta Svärd members to the Presidential Palace a couple of days ago.

Some of the people who attended:

Eero Blåfield, 101: Actually mentioned him just a while ago on the previous page! He attended, now in a motorized wheelchair, but looked great otherwise.

    Helka Visuri, 100

    Eila Karhula, 95

    Fazlulla Fethulla, 98

    Otto Virkki, 98

    Väinö Aronen, 99

    Algot Roos, 99

    Unto Hakuli, 99

Eero Blåfield dead at 102. Expected considering his age, but still sad news. It's been 84 years since the Winter War, the remaining veterans are around Blåfield's age. No idea how many are still alive.

Manolis Mavrommatis is apparently critical again too.

Manolis Mavrommatis out of ICU, his wife is still intubated.

I completely forgot Srinivas is still alive. He seemed near the end even before his "critical on ventilator" hospitalisation.

Jayapataka has greatly improved and is out of bed according to the latest update. Seems like he will make it even this time.

He's still in ICU but has been "greatly improving" the last few days, was able to participate in an event and did a small speech today through video call:

Asides from maybe some Korean generals, I am not sure if there any properly notable Korean War veterans currently living who are famous for their participation.

Royce Williams is alive for now, but I have no idea if he's could be called properly notable. From South Korea, I think the last General notable for participation is Kim Too-man (97) who flew a modern fighter jet at 88 and still seems to be in pretty good health.

In the nerves. I don't know about acoustic neuroma, but a year ago I was diagnosed with a similar tumor in a different place of the head and it seems deaths caused by these types of tumors are extremely rare, usually they develop very slowly as mentioned later on in the article. I've been told my tumor could've been there for decades and it does not cause any problems to me. Very different "brain tumor" compared to for example meningioma

  7. 1913 arguably has Mateo Balbuena Iglesias who is very slightly notable for having written a few books and being a local communist personality. I believe 1915 only has Clayton Flowers unless you want to count Min Jingde (not really notable at all) or that Taiwanese guy who broke the world record for oldest person to paraglide tandem (even less notable)

The 1914 names I'm aware of, ranked by how notable I consider them:

    1. Muazzez İlmiye Çığ - Most recently made an appearance last month. Still sharp.

    2. James C. Floyd - If I'm correct he has not been seen or heard of in a decade. I assume he's in very poor health and consider him very overdue

    3. Anne Baker MBE - Looks 109, but I don't think it's been a very long time since her last appearance?

    4. Eileen Kramer - Could walk without aid a bit over a year ago, visibly aged since but still doing well for her age.

    5. Norman Spencer - Not much to say, most recent image with a quick google search is from when he was 106.

The rest I consider nearly completely notable only due to age.

    6. Edith Renfrow Smith - "I've never taken any medicine" type. Spent weeks in hospital last year but recovered well. Facebook admirers seem sure she'll live way past 110.

    7. Anita Mackey - Bedbound for more than a year.

    8. Viola Fletcher - Tulsa race massacre survivor. I'm too starting to doubt her age a bit, I think she looks too great for 109 and just very recently released a memoir.

    9. Lessie Benningfield Randle - The first here with no Wikipedia page. The other Tulsa race massacre survivor, seems to be in much worse health than Fletcher.

    10. Morrie Markoff - The second one of this group who as far as I know has no Wikipedia page. "Notable" only for being the oldest blogger, but also the oldest man in the US now. Looks much younger.

Pappammal is an obvious fraudster and therefore not included.

Never would I have thought he would live another year after this image was taken. Funny how the cause of death is mentioned "failed treatment" as if the team of doctors treating him could have done something differently to keep him alive even longer.

Impressive Zagallo made it this far with his heart and kidney issues, his health already mentioned in the Time Added first post from 2007. The most "How're they still alive" footy names I can think of are now probably Bilardo, César Luis Menotti and Nelson Acosta.

César Luis Menotti hospitalised with severe anemia due to thrombophlebitis. "In delicate condition"

Just saw this on my YouTube "recommended" videos,

Jayapataka Swami looking absolutely horrible, even more horrible than usual:

Near the start he also seems to say there's water in his lungs. I'm not a fan of these cultlike religious leaders but it's incredibly impressive he's still alive with his 15 years of severe health issues and I don't know how anyone could enjoy being alive in that state.

Jayapataka Swami hospitalised in ICU according to his facebook, but not in any kind of danger:

    Spoiler
Health update Sunday 31st March 2024
    Hare krsna
Dear disciples and well wishers of HH Jayapataka Swami Maharaja
    Please accept our humble obeisances
    All glories to
    Srila Prabhupada
    All glories to Guru Maharaja,
You are all well aware that Guru Maharaja came to Vrndavana to do the abhisekam of the footprints of the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya and to enlighten us during the spiritual safari. He was quite tired when he arrived last evening and rested early.
Since this morning, he developed high fever and his blood pressure started getting very low.
The ground doctors started some intravenous injections to raise the blood pressure and to reduce the fever. While the fever reduced a bit, the BP kept fluctuating, still keeping very low.
Although he was conscious, he looked quite unwell through the day. Till early afternoon, the response to the medicines was unfortunately slow.
The health team decided that the situation needs intervention in a proper hospital set-up and decided to shift him to ILBS Hospital in Delhi as the doctors there are familiar with Guru Maharaja’s medical history.
During his travel back to Delhi he was in good spirits and his blood pressure stayed slightly better than the morning. He has reached ILBS in Delhi and has been admitted in ICU. He is conscious and responding to questions.
We request all the devotees to pray intensely for his quick recovery so he can be back for the installation and safari program.
Guru Maharaja has requested that the programs in vrindavan should continue as planned on his behalf while he is in hospital and he will return as soon as he gets better to participate in the same
    Thanking you all
On behalf of the jps health team and seva committee

I think that's the same hospital he had his liver and double kidney transplant around five or six years ago.

Eze V. B. C. Onyema III (13 February 1927-) Eze Onyema III of Ogwu-Ikpele, an area in Nigeria since 1976.

Eze V. B. C. Onyema III dead? I have no idea what's happening in the video, that white guy twerking and everything, but according to the description it's a celebration of the Eze Onyema's life. Can't find a deathdate either.

Tuheitia Paki has been in failing or atleast poor health since atleast 2013 as he already had serious health problems back then, diabetes-related issues and a rumored heart attack in 2014, reported to be "very unwell and declining" with "multiple illnesses" (atleast diabetes complications and cancer) in 2015, recieved his son's kidney in 2016 (or 2013?), hospitalised in 2017, has buried a lot of his siblings over the years. In February 2021 his medical team advised him to self-isolate.

Recent image of Maori King Tūheitia Paki, judge for yourself:

    maoriking.png.3d7b1d135b10d25f126c79d0091292f4.png

Samoa's Tui Ātua Tupua Tamasese Efi attended the same event and seemed to be doing fine. Efi at this point is probably around twice his country's life expectancy.

Edit: Doesn't deserve its own post so putting it here, Big Brother Finland competitor Jasmiina Yildiz has cervical cancer spread to the lymph nodes.

Sohel Rana (remember when he was critical on life support and constantly deteriorating with covid in December 2021 and was a Deathrace pick in January?) now hospitalised with UTI and "eye problems". He's bedbound and has just returned from Singapore where he also received treatment for his ailments.

Sohel Rana taken to Singapore hospital for "routine checkups"

Now this is a big claim. How long until we can disprove it?

The Voice reporting the death of Neil Flanigan MBE, 99, who they claim was the last veteran of World War II from the Caribbean.

In total there were over 10,000 personnel from the West Indies. Sure, not a huge amount, but I find it hard to believe that they're all gone already?

Edit: Ralph Ottey, 100, is from the Caribbean and is still living. Though he does live in the UK now. Perhaps there really are no WWII vets still living in the Caribbean.
2nd edit: There's also Ena Collymore-Woodatock, 106 – she's still living in Barbados. Starting to look like the article is making silly claims as I thought.

    Interesting, I think there's many more ,

The Bahamas seems to have had four in 2022, atleast Vernon Pinder should be living:

    wiiiimg.thumb.png.e4f8ebae2d2ca55f64a13280d8956498.png

Prince Albert Jacob, born in Trinidad, lives in the UK. He was interviewed a couple of times last year, likely still alive too. (Not part of the West Indies but Belize has some veterans living too, Rudolph Middleton recently turned 100)
