Sohel Rana (remember when he was critical on life support and constantly deteriorating with covid in December 2021 and was a Deathrace pick in January?) now hospitalised with UTI and "eye problems". He's bedbound and has just returned from Singapore where he also received treatment for his ailments.

Sohel Rana taken to Singapore hospital for "routine checkups"

Now this is a big claim. How long until we can disprove it?

The Voice reporting the death of Neil Flanigan MBE, 99, who they claim was the last veteran of World War II from the Caribbean.

In total there were over 10,000 personnel from the West Indies. Sure, not a huge amount, but I find it hard to believe that they're all gone already?

Edit: Ralph Ottey, 100, is from the Caribbean and is still living. Though he does live in the UK now. Perhaps there really are no WWII vets still living in the Caribbean.
2nd edit: There's also Ena Collymore-Woodatock, 106 – she's still living in Barbados. Starting to look like the article is making silly claims as I thought.

    Interesting, I think there's many more ,

The Bahamas seems to have had four in 2022, atleast Vernon Pinder should be living:

Prince Albert Jacob, born in Trinidad, lives in the UK. He was interviewed a couple of times last year, likely still alive too. (Not part of the West Indies but Belize has some veterans living too, Rudolph Middleton recently turned 100)

Jayapataka Swami is out of home care and did a long speech today.

Just saw this on my YouTube "recommended" videos,

Jayapataka Swami looking absolutely horrible, even more horrible than usual:

Near the start he also seems to say there's water in his lungs. I'm not a fan of these cultlike religious leaders but it's incredibly impressive he's still alive with his 15 years of severe health issues and I don't know how anyone could enjoy being alive in that state.

Can't find if Finnish director/writer/editor Harry Lewing is still alive, was watching a documentary on Operation Stella Polaris on the television a while ago and there was an interview of him filmed twenty years ago. 100 this year if still alive.

He was alive! Harry Lewing (imdb) apparently died without much fanfare in December, two days before his 100th birthday. Very unfortunate he did not receive any media attention considering he won a Jussi Award in 1953, but he was quite a "forgotten relic". As far as I know there are no centenarian Finns with imdb pages at the moment, oldest I'm aware of is Hilkka Kinnunen.

Larry Whittaker, a member of America's most inbred family, dies of a heart attack at 67:

Some members of the family only comminicate with grunts and barks.

I've seen a few of the videos of them. Horrible story but atleast (as far as I know) the family is currently getting the support they need

That's Ray, the one who communicates by barking. I think he's around 70 now.

  6. Susana Baca out of ICU, but "still delicate".

Swami Smaranananda critical again. He underwent a tracheotomy last week but then developed acute kidney failure and is now on dialysis.

Also, Mark Coleman has been discharged again, Jayapataka Swami is out of home care and did a long speech today. Manolis Mavrommatis is apparently critical again too.

Marcel Niat Njifenji, President of the Senate of Cameroon, rumored seriously ill or already dead and has not been seen since November. I think it's very likely he's currently in some French hospital.

The article also mentions rumors going around that Michel Meva'a Meboutou is in ill health. He's the Secretary General of the Senate and former Minister of Finance and had a five-month hospitalisation last year.

Marcel Niat Njifenji returns from France to Cameroon according to DW. Apparently he had another "medical emergency" in December when he was in "very critical condition" on respiratory support. The article claims he is currently unable to talk or walk.

New name reported to be in failing health is Clément Atangana, head of Cameroon's Supreme Court.

Here we fucking go again. His Holiness Jayapataka Swami's lungs (and other parts of his body) have filled with water because his transplant kidneys aren't functioning:

      Reveal hidden contents
    Health update of
    HH Jayapataka Swami Maharaja
    Camp : ISKCON Juhu , Mumbai, 4.2.2024.
    Hare Krsna,
Dear disciples and well wishers of
    H.H. Jayapataka Swami Maharaja
    Please accept our humble obeisances.
    All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
    All glories to Guru Maharaja,
Srila Guru Maharaj's abdominal pain has subsided and after he was symptom free, he had travelled to Mumbai from Ahmedabad by train as the doctors advised to avoid flights due to his mini stroke.
Guru Maharaja's BP has come to normal but his transplant kidney is not able to produce sufficient quantity of urine. This has resulted in excess water getting accumulated in Guru Maharaja's body. The doctors have added some medications for removing the excess water.
Doctors from Bhaktivedanta hospital came to visit Guru Maharaja in Juhu temple and given their expert opinion too.
But, Last night Guru Maharaja's oxygen saturation level came down because of the water getting filled up in the lungs and Guru Maharaja required oxygen support during night.
We humbly request everyone to continue intense prayers for Guru Maharaja.

He was still able to host an evening class today. How he isn't affected by any of these extreme health problems anymore makes no sense to me.

Jayapataka Swami suffering from infection, fever and worsening kidney function, but it doesn't sound serious. Likely going to have to start dialysis again soon, currently being treated by a medical team at his Kolkata "hospital at home".

Peng Shilu, the "father of Chinese nuclear submarines", dead at 95.

Huang Xuhua, who is also 95, is often referred with that title, and it generated quite a controversy. Historians believe Peng deserved the title more. Huang is a student of decrepit naval engineer Yang You (1917) who has been in hospital for three years and counting.

Huang Xuhua celebrated his birthday early this month and, like his teacher, seems to be "permanently hospitalised" now too.

They also now claim he's 100.

  11. Jordan Pop-Jordanov or Pop-Jordanow (researchgate, wikidata) Macedonian nuclear physicist, WWII partisan, member of the Yugoslav Communist Party Central Committee, professional tennis player, expert on renewable energy and full member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts has popped his clogs at 98.

Interesting that researchgate profile that goes from nuclear physics to sustainable energy, to ADHD, postpartum depression, climate change and stress.

    Another WWII figure gone.

Off the top of the my head I can't think of anyone now who would have been known at the time.

Still, others from the Allied forces who became subsequently well known like John Hemingway and John Cruickshank VC are still alive.

Surely some child actors (Terry Kilburn) and royal children / children of political/military leaders (not a great example, but Anita Bose-Pfaff) still living from that time? But not sure if there are any who were "famous".

Virginia C. Claudon Allen should still be alive although I haven't read much about her, I have no idea if she was famous in any way at the time.
