I'm guessing OK in the eyes of William means that he's not dead yet.

Is it possible that once it is considered there is nothing that can be done, and they're going to unplug, a family member can go visit.

My grandfather also walked into hospital but never came out. Also, are we describing walking in the sense of a young man walking sprightly, or somebody who is essentially hobbling (in the same way my grandfather was)?
