Luis Cubilla The Uruguayan forward who played in 3 World Cups and went on to become a successful manager has died aged 72. I remember him well from my 1970 World Cup sticker book!

Marie-Claire Alain The night horn has sounded for the renowned French organist at the age of 86. She recorded the complete organ works of J S Bach no less than 3 times and also championed the work of her older brother, the composer Jehan Alain, who was a casualty of WWII.

A.K.A. Lady Rix, as her widower is Brian Rix, Baron Rix "the King of Farce". Not heard anything of him for a long time, but he is still with us aged 89, so one to watch out for - I see he's picked by 2 teams on the DDP.

R.I.P. much-travelled conductor James DePriest. He was one of the first African-American conductors on the world stage, and was appointed assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic by Leonard Bernstein in 1965. Having contracted poliomyelitis in 1962, he notably conducted much of the time from a seated position.

... and then of course there was the classic "The Emudin Line" (sadly never managed to find any clips on YouTube) which was filmed near where I grew up and featured Rod Hull who with his blond mop and sideburns bore some resemblance to Gilmore in his Onedin guise. R.I.P. Peter Gilmore.
-
Wikipedia have now brought Peter Gilmore back to life. Looks like it may have been another Pertwee after all!
-
Fine by me, I wasn't complaining!

2 days ago, and nothing yet from the Beeb or other major sources?! His portrayal of Captain James Onedin surely made him one of the most recogniseable faces on TV in the 70s.

If we can include "Torchwood" in this thread, then may I report Robin Sachs has died aged 61? He was the son of "Good Old Days" presenter Leonard Sachs. Also appeared in "Buffy" and did a lot of voice work. P.S. He also appeared in "Star Trek: Voyager" so that thread would have been another option.

Very well known over there indeed! I have been to NZ on a number of occasions, and the guy was hardly ever off the screens. He was quite a controversial character well known for his hard-hitting style which rattled a few cages.

Leroy 'Sugarfoot' Bonner The frontman and guitarist of funksters "The Ohio Players" has died aged 69.
-
Nagisa Ôshima The Japanese director of "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" has died aged 80. Was discussed here in last year's possibilities thread.
-
Charles Chilton The writer of the stage show "Oh, What a Lovely War!" has died aged 95. Also produced some episodes of "The Goon Show" as well as writing and producing various other radio shows including "Journey into Space".

I think the chances of Clive James popping off in 2013 are slightly better than Peter Falk. That "something" is probably rigor mortis seeing as he died 18 months ago!
-
Jimmy McCracklin The singer / songwriter who had his biggest hit in the US with "The Walk" in 1958 has died aged 91.
-
Lawrie Barratt The founder of Barratt Developments has died aged 85.
-
Confirmation from the BBC, though it simply says he "died suddenly" and "there were no suspicious circumstances".
-
Lisa Della Casa 2 great sopranos in 2 days. The Swiss star died yesterday (10th December) aged 93.
-
You can cross Rhodes Boyson off your list as well. Thanks. I'd forgotten to edit my signature when he croaked!
-
Galina Vishnevskaya The great soprano, widow of the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, has died aged 86. I'd just about given up on getting another hit on the DDP this year, but there you go!
-
Charles Rosen The American pianist and writer on music has died aged 85.

Jonathan Harvey The British composer has died aged 73. He trained with Pierre Boulez and was noted for his choral muisc which often incorporated electronics. Wouldn't want his death to be missed with all the Niemeyer / Brubeck bruhaha. -
Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Rupert's mum, philanthropist and matriarch of the Murdoch family, has died aged 103.
-
Patrick Edlinger Not sure whether to file here or under "ironic deaths". Frenchman considered "the god of free-climbing" has died aged 52 after falling down the stairs at his home.

Ian Campbell Scots folk artist, founder of the folk group which bears his name and father of the Campbell brothers of UB40 fame. Apologies if already posted elsewhere.
