    Ideas and possibilities for 2008

The current longest serving member of the House Of Lords Peter Carington is 88 and had his seat for 67 of those. Aparantly one of his predesors in that role had his seat for 72 years and managed never to speak in the house. Ah democracy...
  2. This may have been posted before (searching youtube has predicably quite alot of results) but has anyone seen, or perhaps made, a video about this web site on Youtube? Have to warn you it features an annoying american screaming at a low-definition camera and lasts eight minutes, I havn't actully finished yet but he seems impressed or at least thinks it provides some good material for his hopefully unique comedy stylings. It was only made last month and has had only fifty visitors so thought there was a fair chance it hadn't been noticed yet. Found it through the Charles Lane video in the ,well, Charles Lane thread. Enjoy.

    Ian Paisley

Apparantly there is two competing biopics being made. Was on the local news a few days ago. One stars Liam Neeson apparantly.

    Pete Doherty

While the thread is on the front page, might be worth mentioning there was a Libertines Reunion several days ago. Actully just Pete and Carl but no one seems to care about Bassists and Drummers.

    Sir Patrick Moore

Quite a disturbing peice of television, rather funny in parts too. John Culshaw's part was well scripted but it doesn't hide the fact he's a crap impressionist and all his impressions are the same. Trevor McDonald/Tony Blair/ Patrick Moore do not sound like that, and they certainly don't sound the same!Anyway, yeah Patrick Moore looks fairly healthy, if enormous and chair bound.

    Brooke Astor

Brooke Astor has rather quietly turned 105. Theres an article about here which comments on "fragile but improving health." Sounds like she was for a time very ill but has recovered a bit.

    Ian Paisley

I know a few people who live in his constituency and he is known for working quite hard for constiuents, even catholics, on more local issues(housing, planning, schools etc). I know theres a good few catholics who vote DUP, at least in concil elctions, because they're seen as more effective. Then again his seat has no fewer than three MLA's of his own party so he can afford a few days off at his leisure. Generally he is quite active as far party leaders go I suppose. Don't see him on TV as much these days as his mind seems to wander without a pre-prepared speech but does seem to travel and work quite alot, esspecially around elction time.

Noticed on Google news there's only American obits.Anyone seen a British one yet? Actully there is one on BBC world service, sort of British.

Elections tomorrow, could lead to Ian Pasily having a rather stressful full time job(First Minister) at the age of eighty. But as he probably wouldn't agree to form a government with Sinn Fien it's not so much of an issue.

While it's Ian Pasily who gets all the attention there is another elderly, militant unionist bigot still around in Northern Ireland. Much to my surprise William Craig, promient minister in the seventies governemnt of Northern Ireland, is still alive aged 82. No information on his health though his Wikipedia page makes interesting reading. It's hard to imagaine a home secertry these days breaking away from their party, forming a miltia and theatening toliquidate the enemy Would definitly come some sort of obit from the BBC.

Must now be getting quite high up the oldest people in the world lits with all the recent deaths.

    Pete Doherty

Thank you for that information Ize. I didn't find much in Frenchdogblues.com (it's not that easy to get in to the site) but you made some useful suggestions. As for his being not likely to die, he has certainly shown himself as a survivor - so far. From the reports we see and hear, he seems more likely than most to be the victim of some sort of accident, possibly dangerous enough to be fatal. Yeah, it's changed quite recently so it now requires some sort of plug-in download something. But if you do get in it should just start playing automaticlly. Theres also a site albionarks.com, but frankly it's even harder to work. Most of it's on youtube anyway, though I'd personaly stay clear of the creepy Pete and Carl montages of which their is a worrying amount.

    Pete Doherty

I feel as probably the only registered Babyshambles/fan here I should offer some defence of 'ole Peter ,or at least his musical talent. I'll try to avoid using the word's genius, legend or poet as they seem to rile people into getting their dictionairy's out and I wouldn't nessecerily say any are true. While both Libertines albums take a bit of getting into due to rough production and quick, garbled vocals, most people who have listened throughly to them would acknowledge them as at least in the top ten albums this century. Lyricly, for which Pete can take most of the credit, they're far above your average indie-punk band. Horrorshow,Time for Hero's, Last Post on The Buegle, Ha-Ha Wall and Man who would be king especially spring to mind. As to what exactly his contribution to The Libertines, it can be fairly certain he did most of the work on what in my opinion are their best songs. Asides from the above you have What Katy Did, Music When The Lights Go Out,Bankok and The Dealney to name but a few. The guitar sound of the band was more developed by Carl but alot of the original tunes were written by Pete. If you really want to see what he added to The Libertines, just compare Pete and Carl's post libertine work. While Carl's album is an easier and probably better listen at first their is so much more depth and varity to the Babyshambles album. Not that Dirty Pretty Things album isn't good, but it resembles the worst of Oasis-when they just write songs by numbers, trying nothing new. It's a album limited to two emtions; angry and smug.Again, it's still a great listen but it's the same indie-punk riffs he's always written. The Babyshambles album is far more varied, you have punk, pop, ska, acoustic ballads and of course the odd Libertine-esque garage punk song. So it's probably fair to say Pete added the imagination to The Libertines. Also while he's reknowed as a fame hungry attention seeker, which may not be entirley unture, Down In Albion(the first Babyshambles album) was probably as uncommerical as it could have been. Barley produced by ex-clash guitarist Mick Jones, it's essentially a live album which they opted to put out rather than an also existing fully mixed version. And due to putting nearly all of his songs on the internet for free download as they are first recorded, every song on that album was already aviable on the internet. The most recent of these was just a couple of weeks ago, a nine track demo of I believe 5-6 very recent songs and some older ones. Not a bad place to start actully if your looking for some material. They aren't all the best songs he's written but they're clear and well preformed which can be rare in some of these. Frenchdogblues.com if you're interested. Bear in mind he started this in 2003 before the Myspace craze really took of. This free music and the fact he was surprisingly accesible to fans, regulary posting on the fourms and inviting them to small private gigs at his flat, probably contributed to the hero worship you do unfortunitly get. Though in the end that fourm posting wasn't all that good for The Libertines survival. But thats another story. While I doubt many of you will be dashing out for tickets right away I hope you give his vast output some consideration. And to get back on topic, he's not that likley to die soon. He presumbly has cut down on his drug intake or else he'd be in jail and has been cleared of being involved in that actor's death. Though ex-Babyshambles guitarist and co-writer of a fair slab of the album Patrick Walden, might be a consideration. Had to quit the band, according to another member, because he owed some people alot of money and couldn't leave the house. And he had his own drug problems. Obviously I'd much rather he didn't, very talented musican himself, but is more likely to die than Pete.

I was looking at her wikipedia entry a few nights ago, mainly to see if she was still alive, and apparntly she was never married to the founder of nation of Islam as was previously stated. With that in mind, is she likley to get a UK obit?

    The Bible

The British Empire brought civilization to the rest of the planet! What's wrong with slavery? The Bible supports it! The bible in some part accepts slavery because it was normal at the time. I don't think at any point is says slavery is great, we should keep it. Not that much of the bible, old testament particuly is a great moral authority.

Slightly obscure, to me anyway, but at 96 Dr Franz Alt might be a good choice. A pioneer in computer science, founded the apparantly quite famous ACM(Association for Computing Machinery) and has published alot of books on computing and maths. From what I can tell he last wrote in 2003, no much information on his health though.

    Margaret Thatcher

I do wonder why British people feel proud of the Empire. Is irredemebly F*****g up half the planet, killing god knows how many natives, pioneering slavery and concentration camps in a general clumsy effort to take over the world, or at least more of it than the French, really something to celebrate?

Eddie Robinson has suffered from Alzheimer's for some time now. My brother-in-law has placed him on his list for the past 5 years now. I'm not American, just live over in the US. I hate the word "Winningest" in fact I had a look at the origin of the word and it seems to have been coined sometime during the mid-70s Eddie Robinson will without a doubt get an obit on CNN and also Sports Illustrated. He is highly respected among college (American) football coaches Wow, I thought it was a typo. Not in my dictionary though Google does give you a defintion from the American Hertiage Dictionary. Exactly what it sounds like in case anyone is wondering. Maybe Eddie could be considered then, even Alzheimer's doesn't nessecerily shorten life, at 87 theres a fair chance.

Noticed an 87 year old football coach by the name of Eddie Robinson on Wikipedia. According to the article he was the "winningest" coach in college football history. American football I must stress, so I don't know how famous he is but sounds like he'd get an American obit. Rumored to have Alzemiers too.

    Near misses 2006

Not a near miss though as she is most probably not dead. In fact that report says "The Queen strained a muscle while holidaying at Balmoral during the summer," not really a serious illness etheir. And, not to go on, but have govenment sources been asked?
  22. Ize

    General Pinochet

Maybe ex-dictators/war criminals should be ignored for future listings. They have a bit of a tendecy to feign illness to avoid trial. Unless they actully have surgery I wouldn't believe it. House arrest or an expenisve private hospital is hardly hell for a ninty-odd year old.

Irate Visitors Rage Here, If You Must.

Just to briefly play devils advocate, their has been a deathlist since 1987 and a fourm since, what, 2003? So really no-one on the fourm has any claim to it. Anyway, the fairly high level of fame of people on Deathlist means you don't have to be trawling forums all that much as the real media will genrally report any major developments.

    Political Frailty

Ian Paisly has been moving about a bit too much for an 80 year old recently, he's giving an interview every news programme that'll have him. Seems fairly healthy at the minute but is supposed to be just getting over a long unspecified illness, prehaps next year-dying just before he becomes first minister.

    Cheeta(h) the Chimpanzee(s)

Slightly dodgy one, the world oldest chimp Cheeta. Now 74, he appeared in some of the early tarzan films. Is likley to get some sort of media obit on his death as the BBC covered his 74th birthday "celebrations."
