But in those days was Lancashire (which is also where George Formby came from who wasn't a slapstick comic, but was often quite funny).

That looks to me like a classic case of denial. And incidentally, I don't think much of those horrid little cars.

What about Stan Laurel? I had no idea until now that Stan Laurel was English, I must be really off today. What about Charlie Chaplin, he is obviously a master of the slapstick as well. Stan Laurel was born in Lancashire, Charlie Chaplin in London. Live and Learn.

You may get marks off for lack of spelling or punctuation. I should take things one step at a time, if I were you.

    Patrick McGoohan

I particularly liked him in Escape from Alcatraz where he played the Prison Governor. I enjoy the Prisoner too and have half of a boxed set of videos. One day I shall get the other half. I agree with whoever it was who said that the last episode was not so good. Each episode was written by a different person, which worked quite well really, but whoever did the last one, and that one where he is in a western, was obiously trying to be surreal, but not doing a terribly good job. Should have got Mr. Honez to do it.

So we can forget about Norman Wisdom for a while, then. If it's that well-known why did the DL committe choose a couple of diminutive non-centagenarians for this year's list?

    Near Misses for 2005

It looks as though Ivan Noble Isn't long for this world. Seems no chance that he will make it to next year. Unusual business what with him writing that column about himself. I expect it inspired many, but was considered by others not to be in good taste. I'm not sure. Makes me feel like a Ghoul to discuss him on the Deathlist. (heaven forbid!) Quite a few DDP teams will be celebrating though, when it finally gets him.

Which bits don't you understand. Seems plain enough to me. Except the word "worthy" at the end of the second last line, which shouldn't be there. And (I think, can't check at the moment) the last two words should be "ma airm" That's probably why you had trouble understanding it.

If one were really 'dominant' then I imagine one would get someone else to do that! Norman Stanley Fletcher.......

    Kurt Waldheim

Sorry for that highly eloquent piece of irrefutable logical argument last night, fuelled by haggis and plenty of whisky. I think the job descriptions on the death list are intended to provoke discussion. I'm sure when the organisers decided to call Waldheim a Nazi, they were expecting a bit of Flak, in particular from the Germans and Austrians. You are guaranteed big trouble here if you call anyone a Nazi, unless you can prove it. Not all soldiers are killers, many are. Kurt Waldheim may not be a Nazi, but he was once. And the Austrians still made him president. Frightening but true. They have another fellow at the moment who is rising in the ranks, extreme right wing and whose family got their fortune from disposessed jews. They also won't be stripping Arnie of his citizenship for taking part in the death penalty in spite of it being a contravention of their constitution. That's the Austrians for you. Don't get me started about democracy. Good morning everyone

Aha! I knew it! Weatherman is a German! That explains everything. BTW it should be "just like I do" not "just like me"

    Billy Graham

Not to mention the questionable implication by Mr Weatherman that it is somehow not clever to marry into money. And the other questionable implication that the other contender was in some (or any) way clever(er). Oh to be young again, and omniscient!

I prefer it when people post in German. Then I have a chance of understanding it. Is there nothing in the Unwritten rules about a minimum standard of punctuation? Sorry for grumbling, have a nice evening.

Our friend Markusdragon did a few good statistical postings at the start of the year. Shame he hasn't really been heard of since.

The Germans take any reference to the Nazis very seriously, often with a knee-jerk reaction, and don't understand how other countries are able to make fun of the them. They still have a thing about it. All the rest of us started making jokes about them as soon as they found out that Hitler looked like Charlie Chaplin and had a silly moustache, and have never really stopped. In a way, Mr another german has a good point which would have come over more clearly if he had posted in English.

Interesting remark, Weatherman. Care to explain?

    Ideas and Possibilities for 2006

*Gulp* Dick Cheney as president. *shudders* I wonder if Football Fan could be persuaded to have a quick word with them and suggest they change their plans. Slightly.

Seems a bit steep to me, going to hell for only murdering 400 people. I'm thinking of all those poor innocent christian folks like Dubya and Mr Kissinger who were only doing their jobs after all. Next thing you know, Arnie will be down there too if he manages another 399 or so. I expect Hell is a bit like Austria. With fewer salt mines of course.
