Death certificate shows he died on 10 May. Must have been one of the most-delayed deaths ever reported on this site, especially for one of the 50. Presumably cremation has taken place by now.

On a whim, having never heard it, I bought the record of the 1984 West Indies touring squad 'West Indians are back in town' when I saw it in Our Price that year. The B side, 'Skipper Lloyd (Have Mercy)' is credited to 'lead vocal: Thelston Payne.' Finally, a record of mine that isn't on Youtube. I'm not going to remind myself how it went, though. I dare say there's a thread for this already, but Jerry is also the latest of several QI panellists who've failed to make it to Series Z. Off the top of my head Victoria Wood, Linda Smith, John Sessions, Sean Lock, Carrie Fisher and Terry Wogan are others. Not sure if Sean Hughes ever appeared on the show.

Quite a big one this - Faith Thomas, who played one Test for Australia in 1958. Doesn't sound much of a career, but one of just four players (two men, two women) of indigenous background to wear the 'baggy green.' I imagine that Geldof was invited in recognition of getting the whole thing started with Band Aid a few months earlier. Arguably Midge Ure should have been asked too, rather than Bono. Not mentioned above - but the Crowd's version of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' (with a distinctly C-list cast including the Nolans, Gerry Marsden, and, er, Black Lace) was recorded to raise money for victims and survivors of the Bradford FC fire in 1985 and went to no. 1. Probably better remembered than the Sun City record. Press conference at 5.30. Assuming it is her, I hope her poor sod of a partner wasn't dragged out to ID her. A body that's been in water for three weeks would be almost unrecognisable in any case. I imagine these days it's generally done through DNA/dental records which is why it takes a little longer. In any case, probably an end to this sad and strange story.

Duke of Windsor in 1972. Aged nine I can remember discovering, and being intrigued that there was a former King still living - and not even the last one, but the one before him. Next thing I knew, he was dead. I wonder if he'd been on the news because of the Queen's visit to the Duke and the Duchess in Paris.

Navy veteran Harry Waddingham looking amazing for 106 in this clip, shown earlier on BBC Breakfast. Upright and alert with a strong, clear voice he could easily pass for fifteen years younger. (Edit: On this morning's show he was talking about his war service, but a short section of this was also shown).

There's a well-known photo of Muhammad Ali meeting Gary Sobers in England in 1966; we know that Pele met Ali. Given that he was here for the World Cup, I wonder if he ever met Sobers too? Surely the three greatest sportsmen of the second half of the 20th century.

New 50p coins in circulation as of today (previously only available at an inflated mark-up from the Royal Mint). 4.9 million isn't very many in terms of a coin mintage though - roughly one in 14 in the UK will be able to get one. I think 'Rumours' deserves its classic album status, but some of it has suffered from over-exposure: the four singles and 'The Chain' have been flogged to death on oldies radio. 'Rhiannon' is another one, although that actually comes from the previous (eponymous) album.
