  1. Walker crashed his car recently which suggests he's losing his marbles...

If a car crash is symptomatic for losing ones marbles then the asylums must be stuffed to the guwales!

He's getting on isn't he? I know there are all sorts of reasons for crashing cars (he may have had a tipple, but then we would know about that) so I'm plumping for early Senile Dementia. Either that or he was distracted by a cat or was fumbling for a CD... :D

or he thought he saw Maggie Thatcher walking by and pressed on the accelerator...

  2. Thought I'd revive this thread as its been SEVEN weeks since dear Bill was our last hit...

It's been a funny year: feast and famine. And have we actually done a guess the tenth hit yet?

I have the feeling we haven't because we were so jaded putting up the list and then someone dropping dead!

    Any volunteers?

    Billy Graham

  3. Ive just realised-no-one o the list has snuffed it for 7 weeks now.Surely it cant be long before someone drops dead.

Dogs arse, READ THE POST THAT WAS MADE 3 ABOVE YOURS.

I get the distinct impression you don't like me very much... :D

  4. Time, I think for a quick update from Myanmar. Whilst Senior General Than Shwe is looking in rude health, Prime Minister Soe Win has just returned from Singapore after unspecified treatment.

Ever wondered why these top Myanmar officials keep going to Singapore for their treatment? Well, with less than $1 per capita annual health care expenditure, there isn't a lot to go round. Evidently, Than Shwe spent more money on his daughter's wedding last year than the entire health budget

I don't think that Hello covered the event, though.

Soe Win is still suffering from leukemia, but his twin brother and fellow junta bigwig General Tin Htun has just died.

I mention this because Soe Win is reported to have been relying on bone marrow transplants from "family members" over the last few months. It could be concluded that his twin brother would have had the best bone marrow match, so his death might spell bad news for the surviving sibling. :D

He's on his way back to Burma

"His condition is not good and he will die soon. He will be taken to the military hospital in Mingaladon," sources close to the military said

    Soe little time....

some sources say he died tuesday but it could be wishful thinking..

  5. Ned has been absent from Radio 4 for months now due to what has been termed a "paralysed vocal cord". He has been replaced both on Loose Ends and Counterpoint since before Christmas. There are a lot of mutterings (I can put it no stronger than that) that he is in fact quite seriously ill. Does anyone have any more information? I'll try to find out more.

I was looking around the bottom of the forum looking at all the threads i ahve missed ove rthe last few months when I came across this thread.

Saw NS in a butchers shop at the World's End,Chelsea a few weeks ago.He was buying pork ges (possible effect on the heart?) and lokkede quite spry for a man in his, I guess, late 70's.

i guess the pork must have been off.. :D

  6. With John Biffen and Ian Gilmour recently deciding to spend more time with their ancestors,

I'd thought I'd update you all on the current roll-call of politicians from Maggie's first cabinet from 1979 that are still on-message. Here goes...

    Margaret Thatcher - Prime Minister (b. 1925)

    William Whitelaw - Deputy PM/ Home Secretary (d. 1999)

Sir Geoffrey Howe - Chancellor of the Exchequer (b. 1926)

John Biffen - Chief Secretary to the Treasury (d. 2007)

Lord Soames - Lord President of the Council (d. 1987)

    Lord Hailsham - Lord Chancellor (d. 2001)

Sir Ian Gilmour - Lord Privy Seal (d. 2007)

    Lord Carrington - Foreign Secretary (b. 1919)

    Peter Walker - Agriculture, Fisheries & Food (b. 1932)

Norman St-John Stevas - Arts/ Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (b. 1929)

    Francis Pym - Defence (b. 1922)

    Mark Carlisle - Education & Science (d. 2005)

James Prior - Employment (bet he had a jolly time then!) (b. 1927)

    David Howell - Energy (b. 1936)

    Michael Heseltine - Environment (b. 1933)

    Patrick Jenkin - Health & Social Security (b. 1926)

Keith Joseph (architect of Thatcherism) - Industry (d. 1994)

    Humphrey Atkins - Northern Ireland (d. 1996)

    Angus Maude - Paymaster-General (d. 1993)

    George Younger - Scotland (d. 2003)

John Nott (Here today, gone tomorrow?) - President of the Board of Trade (b. 1932)

    Nicholas Edwards - Wales (b. 1934)

    So....10 are dead and 6 are 80+.

Pym's not well, Carrington's getting on and are probably the best bet.

I thought Jenkin died years ago. Not seen Nott for a while. Prior, Edwards & Howe also.

Stevas and Hezza are still knocking about on TV.

Walker crashed his car recently which suggests he's losing his marbles...

Which leaves Thatch and Howe, her Brutus....

JOhn Nott was on tv at the time of the Falklands 25th anniversdary in the sppring and looked in good nick.My bet is on Francis Pym to go soon as hes been 'on leave' from tje HOuse of Lords for a while now which probably means hes suffering from alzheimers or dementia or something.Incidentally 2 other former members of Thatchers cabinet have died this year-Paul Channon and Lord Cockfield, though they werent in h er original cabinet of course.

  7. in fact his execution may be delayed permanently-theres a divide among the prooosecutors as to whether to execute him or not.God knows why annyone should want to spare this scumbags life thouugh...

  8. I now thinkk Fidel wil die in 2008,not this year. But I do think he WIL die next year, since Fidel himself cast doubt on whether he wil live to see the end of the Bush presidency-he would like to see it but he sounds unsure that he will...with good reason I suspect...

I think Fidel Castro's death might be confirmed in the next few days. Stop with this dave. I just want him to die this year. i don't think he will make it to 2008. His condition is serious. Fidel's death may happen the next weeks.

the point is I think he should be kept on the list for 2008,probably not at no 1 though
