  1. So that Sylvia Disley - a British Olympic medal winner 56 years ago - could hold the swan vesta aloft and also so that an exhumed Rod Stewart could prove he was really alive. I think we should be considering Sylvia too: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics_2...ies/3842065.stm An incredibly youthful look for 75 though, it must be said. But maybe the Olympic committee know something about her health that we don't; hence the honour of being the first person in England to hold the lantern. Check her and the swan vesta out in the first photo. And my god, who is that on photo number 6? Celebrity sleepover changed my life...

    Boris Johnson

A friend of mine reckons that it was being re-introduced in Liverpool. I was hoping that the Boris Johnson Fan Club could shed some light on the matter, but they appear to be temporarily unavailable: http://www.geocities.com/borisjohnsonfanclub/ Perhaps a very big long short, but still, a long shot all the same.

On the news tonight. By her own admission she had "a bit of this, and, a bit of that", whilst she was in hospital on a covert mission to check for cleanliness. She contracted MRSA whilst conducting her investigation for the Daily Mail.
  6. We will be starting a death prediction game at the Deathlist, in the near future. More details to follow, but the game will be to predict the death of X number of celebrities within a set period of time. There are rumours of a prize as well... But first, we need to play The Name Game! That's right. We need a name for the game. And this topic is the place to suggest your name. Try and bear in mind the number of celebrities being picked and maybe work this in to your name somehow. Remember: All celebrities must pass our famous famousness test. You can select a name from the current list or a previous year or suggest you own name for inclusion. The winning name will no doubt be decided by a poll - well, that's forum technology for you. There is no real limit to the amount of names you can suggest, but please be sensible by only suggesting good names!
  7. Somebody in the office informed yesterday, that Chris Moyles was looking for a website that contained details of famous dead celebrities. I wonder if anyone else heard it? Apparently they were looking on the internet for such a site, but they didn't find The Deathlist. A quick Google search for "famous dead celebrities" perhaps indicates why - we aren't anywhere in sight. Anyway, I hope you like the site Chris, if you ever find it.

    Nick Leeson

Seeing as we are doing a bit of research... He had colon cancer, which was understood to of reached his lymph nodes, but made "a full recovery in 2003". Finding a study that is up-to-date proves fairly hard, but this study of Cancer Mortality in the United States, http://www.healthgoods.com/Education/Healt...ality_in_US.htm, from between 1987-1991, seems to indicate that mortality from Colon/Rectum cancer was high, ranked 3rd, after Prostate (2nd) and Lung (1st). Admittedly, we don't eat as many burgers and as much soul food as our dear american cousins, but it might still be some vague data to base a prediction about. Could be one to watch.

    Suharto

Looks like Suharto might go this year. He has been declared unfit to stand trial. Perhaps he should of been included this year after all.

    Richey Edwards

He's gone now, we'll we think so: http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/news/story/...1300423,00.html What about an obit? What do those broadsheets do in these circumstances? Wait for a legally dead declaration? And I thought it was just that guy from the KLF that went missing.

    Gretchen Franklin

I see from the Wiki, that she is a cousin of the actor Clive Dunn, no less. Perhaps a bit of family competitiveness might be triggered.

    Luciano Pavarotting.

I see that Pavarotti was unable to join his daugther on the beach, owing to his rather large demeanour. The man is a ticking timebomb!

    Marlon Brando

80 years old and in the Daily Mail today: in a wheelchair with some breathing apparatus and a plethora of life supporting medical devices beneath the chair. It looks like he might of even had a tracheotomy, but I didn't see the picture for long enough. No doubt DWB can advise further on this, as he is a reader of this paper Recent scares: In 2001 he had to pull out of "Scary Movie 2" owing to ill health (pneumonia).

    Shaw Taylor

Not based on any strong leads, apart from his date of birth: 26 October 1923 (81 this year). Memory jogged from watching an old public information film where a very dapper Shaw instructs 1950s citizens to "clunk-click", and after all, he should know, he was in the feel good business of giving "sound advice" at the time when seatbelts were just an upholstery upgrade, holding no life saving properties at all. Very hard to find any information on Shaw other than the IMDB and some crazy, and painfully slow, French sycophantic's website: http://shawtaylor.ifrance.com/shawtaylor/ - it might even be the official website. Perhaps we should we be keepin' 'em peeled?

  21. Bob Holness helped create a nostaglic tribute to Blockbusters tonight by re-creating the infamous Goldrun for Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeout. For those of you too young to remember, Blockbusters ran for 10 years from 1983-1993. But could this be his last Goldrun? Is he headed for a heavenly edition of the quiz, armed with just a Blockbusters sweatshirt and dictionary? Bob looked very shaky indeed, walking the very short distance from dry ice filled entrance to his podium, all under the watchful gaze of the original fibre-glass cast of Socrates. As the clock started, he began slowly by asking "What S...," only to stop dead in his tracks for at least another 10 seconds before remembering he was asking a question. Not the best approach on a time critical operation, like a quiz-show for example. He sounded very slow when asking his questions. Even so, it was great to see the old boy doing his thing one more time. Indeed after checking it sadly seems that Bob has had a stroke. Not sure when, but the online Kent Messenger Group Website confirms, "Bob Holness, a long-time judge of the Kent Journalist of the Year awards, now battling back courageously after suffering a stroke." You can see the quote in context at: http://www.kentonline.co.uk/business/featu...feature_115.asp - but thankfully he needs no introduction, unlike June Brown. Born: 12 November 1928, Vryheid, Natal, South Africa. Trivia: "One of the earliest actors to 'play' James Bond... One of his daughters was in a pop group [and] had a smash hit with 'I Eat Cannibals'." I'm putting him firmly forward for next year.

    Mel Smith

Alas, no idea what's wrong with him and it seems nobody else either at this point, perhaps he has had too much sun, but after trousering at least 31 million from the sale of TalkBack he'll be in safe hands and won't be wilting just yet a while. Just off to rent Morons from Outer Space to remind myself how terrible it was...

    Where Is Stayin Alive?

Haha, Comic Sans! How true. It never ceases to amaze me how many 'professional' organisations use, sorry abuse, that typeface. I found myself in the position of seeking legal redress a few years back from Tesco, after being man-handled by one of their over zealous 'security' people. After many months of standard legal manoeuvres, the settlement letter, from their legal department, arrived in none other than Comic Sans - classic. Whilst it is probably acceptable for childrens parties and the general childrens entertainment/fun day industry it is very rarely acceptable outside this area and DL is no exception!
