  1. I have to ask whether I'm in a minority in seeing Little Britain as being as obvious, repetitive and crass as say, Mind Your Language or Bottoms.

While I'm here I've been watching telly out of the corner of my eye (I like to try new approaches to viewing). I've just watched the VW Passat advert where two hotel porters fight for the privilege of parking the car.

One guy loses the fight but then looks smug at not having to unload the luggage - is that Ronald Hines of 'Not in Front of the Children'? Yet another crap 60s comedy. I had assumed that he may have passed on many years ago.

Little Britain is deeply unfunny. I think there is an Emperor's New Clothes Syndrome about it where noone wants to be the first to say "It's just not funny". There I said it. Now you can all say it too

  2. Not really my kind of film but I have seen it. I was at a friend's house and the film was dubbed into Russian, with one very bored sounding Russian guy doing all the voices. I just remember having an argument with my friend about whether Gloria Stuart's character died at the end

One Russian guy....doing all the voices in the movie....did he atleast try to sound feminine for the womens' lines?

I didn't see the movie for years, but in order to help get into a woman's shorts, I gave in and endured the length of the film.

No it was just one bored sounding guy doing te same voice for all the characters, it was dull but it gave it a surreal edge. I've never seen it since so I don't know if enhanced the film or not. So was the woman worth it then?

  4. Time was I had some respect for the opinions expressed in Word magazine. Better than Cheers or Frasier - no way, better than The Vicar of Dibley, yeah, just about.

Ooh look, 55,000 views for the Dickie thread!

In this case, most of Word's opinions seem about right. Great to see Men Behaving Badly, Bottoms and Bread in the worst 20 list with Bread winning worst ever sitcom award. Steptoe the best?? Not convinced.

The Vicar of Dibley was in neither list but was certainly worse than anything that Dickie appeared in.

I must get this issue. I was very pleased when they dissed Mark Lamarr in a previous issue and I'm doubly delighted they've ripped the back out of Bread and Men Behaving Badly

  5. I've never eaten dog but if it was cooked and prepared I don't see how that would be different from eating pig or any other animal. If you are going to eat dead flesh you shouldn't distinguish

I agree, but what about human flesh? (Ah, a morbid way to begin the morning...)

I'm a vegetarian at the moment so I wouldn't eat any flesh, but I can't rule out going back to eating meat. Also I can't say I'd never eat human flesh. It seems very unlikely at the moment but I can't rule it out. If I was involved in a plane crash and had to human flesh to survive then of course I would and anyone who says they wouldn't is lying.

  6. I read The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie a few years ago. Didn't thrill me to bits, but was an ok read. I'm saddened by Muriel Spark's death. ( She was on my list for 2007. )

The Driver's Seat is much better, very macabre

  7. the ribs were about normal size, it was the fortune cookies that said "that wasn't chicken" that bother me.

and we don't have fish & chips in the states. and even if we did, i don't eat anything without shoulders.

    Fish have shoulders.

i have never seen a shoulder on a fish. i don't eat all things with shoulders, which leads into another subject entirely, but let's not go there.

No lets. See I've never understood why meat eaters make a fuss about eating certain types of flesh and not others, if it's for religious reasons fair enough, but why is it ok to eat a sheep but not a dog? I don't get it, if you're willing to eat some types of meat you should eat all. When I was a meat eater I ate all types

  8. Horsebrutality has a unique pick with Muriel Spark, finally ending a month-long drought at the Hartlepool Deadlypool. I'm not sure why I'm taking NAP's job in announcing that... I guess I'm just excited for him!

I'm excited too for I am Horsebrutality
