Jamie Farr is now selling personalised video messages to fans for £83 on Cameo. So still mentally agile I assume.

He's still all there, check out the interview in my message above, but his age/mortality seems to be on his mind.

    I was just thinking.

Those women who have their flanges pierced and hang metal curtain rings off them.

I wonder if they have problems going through airport scanners?

I don't know about that but my mum has steel pins in her lower leg and they don't ping. I think she was quite disappointed.

I always wonder if people who wear wigs have to take them off before going through security.

Although not included here, Nikolai Fadeyechev, who has died at age 87, is being credited with having been a People's Artist of the USSR

I think there are a few folk missing from it. Vera Alentova and Vladimir Menshov seem to missing too and the likely would get obits.

Edit - I am mistaken , they  got the People's Artist of Russia Award which came later.

Ironic how he directed arguably great movies like The Lost Boys and Falling Down, and he is mainly been remembered for the piece of thrash that was Batman & Robin.

I can't be the only one to really dislike that film can I?

Agree with all of this (except would add one dead and one still living DL-member to Gates). Other observation I would make comes down to the fundamental question of whether this is a UK or a 'world' list.

Tbh I'd never heard of (say) Ruth Bader Ginsburg or Alex Trebek before I came on here but I assume (hope!) they are famous in the US. Equally, Edrich (and just about any other cricketer) and Tony Britton (and any other old actor who was in UK sitcoms in the 70s) are well known in the UK/to me  but I suspect not many of our 'overseas' friends have heard of them.

Fundamentally, I guess we vote 'no' if we've never heard of them outside of DL (or at least believe that a majority of our non-dead-pooling friends haven't done so).

I hadn't heard of Edrich and I am British but I still think he's deathlisty because I believe the committee are into their cricket so I will always expect old cricketers to have a place on DL. I hadn't heard of Trebek either.

  6. I just had to look up Tom Smith because I have never heard of him and this phrase was one of the suggestions 'tom smith gas monkey garage death' which intrigued me. It's not DLs Tom Smith though but some dead biker.

Good to see Maggie FitzGibbon has got a proper write-up; i chose her on the strength of her Manhunt role, not realising she'd had an eponymous TV series over here. I've also just found out she was Miss Flanagan & Allen in Morecambe & Wise!

P.S. Isn't Brett Sinclair a fictional character played by Roger Moore :scratchhead:?

Yes he is, in the Persuaders. I work with someone called Ben Sinclair and for the first few months I kept calling him Brett.

Not as bad as the time I had to call a customer called Mr Bates and started the call with 'May I speak to Mr Norman please?'

    Clout Part 2

Hmmm. Lee Tomlinson appears to have been Ilene or Eileen du Preez, who then became Lee Conrad and later Lee Tomlinson: http://www.rock.co.za/files/sa_amazons.html

Now this may suggest she was born even earlier than 1953 - could she really have been a vocalist in a band at 11? Probably knocked a few years off! But who knows. I think we can rule out 1958 and 1963 for her!

I used to work with Lee twenty years ago. She is alive and well and living in Kent. She goes by her married name now which isn't any of those above. I will DM you that if interested.

All the filming for Ghosts Series 2 is complete so it depends whether the post production has been delayed. It is actually a grower. The first few episodes are a bit slow but there are some great performances and it is very witty and sweet.

I enjoyed it a lot, it's very likeable. I think Charlotte Ritchie is a great actress, but I find Katy Wix a bit tiresome, thankfully as it's an ensemble piece so it doesn't matter too much.

    I love the ITC stuff.

Wasn't Department S made by them too?

Yes it was. I like that too. I love Rosemary Nichol's wardrobe.

My favourites are Randall and Hopkirk [deceased] and Man in Suitcase which goes without saying really.

  11. Was anyone else a fan of last year's BBC comedy series Ghosts? I enjoyed it despite some ropey acting and predictable humour.  It's worth checking out if you want something a bit daft and not too taxing. I was looking forward to the second series but I imagine it's been delayed.

I am currently re-watching The Prisoner.  It's not my favourite ITC series, in fact in probably just scrapes into the top 5  but it seems kind of apt viewing.

This is an interesting point, I mean, there must be people out there that look a bit like Jimmy Savile and Rose West etc.

What a curse that would be!

We had a teacher who looked a lot like Rolf Harris, his nickname was Didge, after didgeridoo. I often wonder of he still does.
