    Wow - I'm amazed it's such a low number. I think I've seen 18 and I wouldn't call myself a film buff.

My 4 guesses simply because I think everybody has seen them would be

    Elf

Harry Potter and Chamber of Secrets (cinema)

    Die Hard (cinema)

    Mary Poppins

but if that's right then you have a lot of good films to watch (not Confessions of a Window Cleaner though!)

I have only seen Mary Poppins out of those 4. Not sure how many I have seen in total.

    OK, after careful consideration -

    M*A*S*H (1970)

    Tom Skerritt

    Robert Duvall

    Donald Sutherland

Ages 88, 91, & 86. Average age 88; Round 1 average age (at time of selection) 86; Round 2 also 86. All 6 previous selections still living (and probably still working).

I had no idea Tom Skerritt was that old. MASH would have been a great one for last the last round as it lost 3 cast members between December 2019 and June 2020.

    Good shout.

If its a man then Malcolm Hebden and Geoff Hinsliff  spring to mind  but I guess it  depends how you define  Corrie Veteran.

I had forgotten Hinsilff was still alive and I didn't know until googling that he is Gabby Hinsliff's dad, though it seems obvious now I know.

I am going to share some gossip that I have read on other places on the Internet,  a whisper that came to me indirectly- neither of which I can vouch  for but seemed plausible and believable  to my judgement  and some  speculation or amateur reasoning of my own on the health of a British celebrity!

First name- Joel Grey.  On a handful of other places on the Internet  there was a claim made that to acknowledge  the 50th anniversary of the film Cabaret  the bosses putting together the Oscars really wanted  to have an onstage appearance  from Joel Grey as well as Liza Minnelli and really thought there was a good chance but apparently  health and frailty issues with Joel  meant that they couldn't  pull it off.  A decline in his wellbeing in recent  months rather than something sudden or minor was behind the disappointment according to this information  being teased and hinted at.

The second one doesn't involve a specific  name but some interesting  information.  I was told very indirectly  recently ie information has gone through a chain of people so information is way beyond  second  hand that a veteran Coronation Street star sometime in the next year  is being given an honour like an obe or Dameship /Knighthood Sir.  They weren't specific if the person is still a cast member  but they did seem to allude to it being a female  . One of the reasons behind the timing of the award is concern about their long term health.

My money would be on Barbara Knox or Eileen Derbyshire.

And finally  I was surprised to find , at least to the best of my  brief  look through the tributes to June Brown  that there was nothing from Pam St Clement  her former EastEnders costar. They worked together for decades and were known to be friends off screen.  Pam did give a tribute when Barbara Windsor  died. My own suspicion is she is in poor  form.

I could be wrong but that's my feeling.

    Pam is 80 next month.

So Joel Grey,  Barbara Knox,  Eileen Derbyshire or another Corrie veteran and Pam St Clement,  all names worth considering for 2023  based on the information I have posted.

Thelma Barlow is older than Knox and Derbyshire.

She always looked gaunt, like an emaciated hamster.

Check out Man About The House.:D

She was never hefty, but I would hardly describe her as emaciated in Man About The House. Anyway, it seems she may have thyroid problems which probably explains her look.

Tom Lehrer ought to be a mascot of the DL tbh.

The only reason I remember my niece's birthday is because it's the same as Lehrer's. The only reason I remember my great nephew's birthday is because it's Freddie Mercury 's death anniversary.

Back in topic, caught a bit of Coronation Street while at my mum's and though Paula Wilcox looked very gaunt and seemed to be wearing a wig. Anyone know anything?

  7. Interesting topic. As with previous posters, a lot of my favourites are long dead and I am a bit superstitious about listing these as many of them are potential future DL picks. Any typos are intentional due to superstition.

    1. T0m Lehrer - goes without saying really.

    2. David Lynch - I have enjoyed most of his work and find him fascinating.

    3. Eva Marie Saint - One of the last living links to one of my favourite films, North by Northwest.

    4. Kate Bush - I don't think I really got music until I saw her on one of those Sounds of the 70s shows.

    5. Gary Burghoff - Could have been any of the M*A*S*H gang really but he has the link to the film and is indirectly responsible for getting me into pen pal writing.

    6. Martin Parr - love his postcard books, fond memories of laughing with my dad over them.

    7. Werner Herzog - I don't like all his stuff but The Enigma of Kasper Hauser is one of my favourite films.

    8. Grant Naylor - cheating a bit here by selecting a duo, but I prefer their collaborative Red Dwarf to Doug's solo efforts.

    9. T!m Curry - I know Rocky Horror was Richard O'Brien 's creation, but it was T!m as Frank that piqued my interest.

    10. Patricia Quinn - Another Rocky Horror cast member. I was Magenta in our Shadow Cast. Loved it.

    11. Andy Hamilton  - Shelley, Old Harry's Game, Drop the Dead Donkey. All comedy classics for me.

    12. Kenneth Cope - Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) is comfort telly for me and he was in every episode, though I prefer Annette Andre generally.

    13. Neil Hannon - I just enjoy his music and it reminds me of my friends.

    14. Derek Griffiths - A charismatic performer. Always a joy to watch.

    15. Allan Ahlberg - Really enjoyed his books as a youngster.

    16. Michael Praed - For shallow reasons :)

    17. David Yip  - Just really like him as an actor, always found him a reassuring presence in films as a kid.

    18. Loren Coleman - I like cryptozoology and fin his books very accessible.

    19. Kim Gordon  - Possibly the only person more obsessed with Karen Carpenter than I am.

    20. Richard Carpenter  - Okay, maybe there is one more person who is more obsessed. While Karen was always the main focus, credit where it's due, he was good at what he did.

There are a load of nearlies   - Jarvis Cocker, Ken Deighton, Mary Quant, Ray Davies and loads more.

I sat next to a lad at work who was covering maternity leave for an admin post.  He had a Sports Science degree but if you said something that failed to register on his personal radar he would instantly Google them and tell you he had never heard of them. When Paddy Ashdown died I told him how I had met him during the 1992 election campaign and my hand appeared on Newsnight.  He just looked at me blankly and turned to Google and said I have never heard of him. To be fair he was only born in 1995

I was at school with a girl, who despite studying for A-levels in Religious Studies and German didn't know that Martin Luther was not the same person as Martin Luther King. We ended up at the same university both studying German and every time Martin Luther was mentioned I would smirk to myself.

Mind you, I shocked a colleague today when I said I didn't know who Nickleback are and I upset a pen pal because I didn't know who Years and Years are.

The one really good thing about being on this forum is that we get to find out when a prolific, but not well known, character actor dies.

I had no idea that he was Ron Pember, I only knew the face because he was in a shit ton of stuff over the decades.

I knew his name from Red Dwarf, but he turned up in loads of stuff. It was always fun to see him.

US singer/songwriter Paul Evans is 84 today; his most well-known songs were hits for other people - Roses are Red (My Love) for Ronnie Carroll (UK) & Bobby Vinton (US) and When, for The Kalin Twins.

His earliest chart success as a singer was with The Curls & Seven Little Girls Sitting in The Back Seat in 1959, which reached number 25, beaten by The Avons version, which reached No. 3. He had top 10 success some years later, when the maudlin Hello, This is Joanie (The Telephone Answering Machine Song) reached number 6 in 1978.

I have just got favour of my head after someone else mentioned it a few weeks ago. Damn you.

Wear a onesie for an entire month whatever the location, claim it's really becoming the style on the mainland.

    Then you'll know.

Oh she likes onesies. I suspect it was her who bought me one , a leopard print one, as a secret Santa gift a few years ago. I don't like them and have never worn it.  I guess she has given up on trying to get me to dress like her and is trying something else.

By dressing like you, do you mean she buys identical garments or just tries to copy your style?

A bit of both. I know some overlap is bound to happen on a small island without a huge amount of shops and that's fine. One example is that she never used to wear red, it's a colour I wear quite a lot and now when we meet up she is almost always in red. She even bought us matching sunglasses,  gave me a blue pair (a colour I do not wear and she does) and kept the red pair for herself.

Today she gave me a headband, added that she bought one for herself as well and we should wear them together when we next to out.

I know it's not that big a deal, but something similar happened to me at university and that ended up escalating to other stuff so I am on my guard a bit.
