  1. Now that Sue Grafton has left for the mortuary one last time, maybe that wannabe writer Lawrence Block can follow suit.

He is nearly 2 years older than Grafton was and his health just hasn't been the best since his near fatal fall some months back in which he cracked his hip, followed by less than successful surgery.

    Hi Bruno,. Welcome back.

Oh am I back?  How did I get here?  Oh that's right, it's new year's eve and frozen solid outside so here I am.

Must find the soon to be dead authors thread, I have a possible for it.

(Or do they need to be truly, most sincerely dead first?)

  3. I figure to make my picks as they croak. It increases my odds of getting a full 50.

Some might think that's a form of cheating, to which I'd possibly agree depending on which way the cake is tilting on the veranda.

Looks terrible. DL should keep him.

    Terrible is putting it nicely.

Didn't tuck in his shirt, griping the wall for support and looks bored and annoyed.   Surprised he didn't drop to the ground and start digging away to join his late love.  (though she might not have stayed too well preserved in there....could have given home a deathly shock.)

Disappointed he didn't do the gentlemanly thing and vanquish himself to eternity yet.

    Oh well.

  5. I decided to check off Bob Barker.  I'm almost confident that he'll take another fall and crack his head, leading to an inevitable coma and his demise.

He ruined life for many by abandoning The Price Is Right.   Why just today our health secretary, Tom Price was forced to resign.  Coincidence?  Not likely.

Besides, other people born on December 12 are already dead...and at younger ages.

Bruno....... Welcome back. Been a while. How the devil have you been?

Quite alive apparently, unlike many of the corpses which have been popping into crematoriums, funeral parlors and cemeteries this month.

By the way folks, less than two days to my birthday--- September 31, be sure to mark it in on your calendar or car wax.

Hope all of you are well as well.

  7. Is there a dead boxers thread somewhere?  If there is, then maybe a kindly...or even not so kindly moderator could move this there.  Otherwise it can stay here...

The Raging Bull,  boxer Jake LaMotta is dead.

Dead, dead, dead!   He's dead, I said.  He was 95.

    Cause of knockout:  Dysphagia pneumonia.

Ring of knockout:  Palm Garden Nursing Home in Miami, Florida, U.S.A.

  8. I can't say Justice Scalia's death means much to me.

    ...........................

Not just a conservative, not a bright one either.

Actually, quite the contrary. Mr.Scalia was an extremely intelligent man. He knew and understood the Constitution and that was how he formed an opinion and ruling. Even the more liberal minds of The Court found this to be the case.

At any rate, he will be missed. May his replacement on the bench be at least half as fair-minded and wise.

  9. In late breaking news related to former President George H.W. Bush, it seems a one time rescuer of his from back in the days of World War 2 has succumbed to death.

    http://www.silive.com/obituaries/index.ssf/2015/11/staten_island_ferry_captain_micha.html

    In part it reads:

"...Michael Hnatowicz, 92, a retired Staten Island Ferry Captain, World War II veteran and family man has died...

...served in the U.S. Navy during World War I I FROM 1941-1945...stationed aboard submarine USS Guavina in the South Pacific, and one of the crews primary tasks was to rescue pilots who had been shot down. One of those rescues was aviator George H.W. Bush, later 41st President of The United States.

...survived by his wife and 2 sons and 4 daughters..."

As to the former President, he continues to live.

  10.

Anyway my money is on him exiting earthly being on either

February 29 of 2016 or else stringing us all along until December 31 of the same year, and expiring somewhere around 11:59 (that'd be 23:59 on the 24 hour clock).

    Date taken.

    Do tell.

Anyhow it matters not to me as I know that his departure will only be in body form, as his legacy shall remain, and those living in Habitat For Humanity homes will always recall him.

So, is September 31, of 2016 still available?

  11. There are a number of us that just plain don't believe in funerals. Seems like a huge amount of dollars to be shelled out for a quick service where somebody or a few folks dressed in their most somber attire, yammer on about how they respected, loved, nay...adored, the now deceased person in the casket. Meanwhile they hadn't had 3 good words to say on them in the last 40 years.

Seems much more proper and honest to hit the memorial service a few weeks or months down the pike. There we find those who truly cared and will relate tales of the departed, both funny and sad and will even tell of feuds they may have had with the person who kicked off.

If it's a good memorial service there'll be some vittles and liquid refreshments. And possibly even the corpse now in ash formation following a toasty cremation.

Regarding Kirk, it surprises me each time I read or hear that he's still alive. It would be nice to have him hang on another five to ten years.

    ?..........?

Why? Has he bought the peanut farm in the great hereafter yet?

Well, that is another matter....wonder if he prefers crunchy or smooth peanut butter and what type of gluten enriched bread he uses or does he spread it on matzoh?

  13. who the FUCK IS KEN KERCHEVAL AND WHY SHUD WE KARE

Because he had his own brand of popping corn at one point in time and even more because he has an acting resume of some length. Included in his roles were that of Cliff Barnes on the long running serial drama Dallas. He appeared in the original run and in the more recent revamped and updated version of the show.

Born the day following Bastille Day in the year of our Lord listed as 1935, Kenneth Kercheval will be a standard 80 years of age this July. On IMDB he is the only actor listed as being born in Walcottville, Indiana.

More than 20 years ago he had lung cancer, fought it, had surgery to remove a lung lobe or two or maybe more, and won his battle and still lives on.

Still working he has been seen in dozens upon dozens of movies and television programs over the years.

Also rumored to have at times imbibed in a little to much alcohol (not sure his present drinking status), he could conceivably drive off a Cliff

    Will be a-waiting and a-watching.

  14. I think you want us all to slap you up side your head and congratulate you.

    Sometimes people get lucky.

Imagine if you will if we'd had the internet back in 1960 when Margaret Sullavan died on the 1st of January after swallowing a few too many pills. Why if deathlist had selected her, they'd have been off to a darned good start.

So, congratulations and may you have a few more successes as the year rolls on.

  15. My first impression was that I was not impressed. Too many exceptionally elderly folks on it to make it feel good. Then I reconsidered and realized that if they made it past 90 they were indeed able to outwit death somehow so there would be something of a cat and mouse chase going on which would prove to be exciting. So, in second impression I kind of liked the list although as always there are at least 33% that I haven't an inkling as to who they are. That too can be good since it causes me to research them and learn about otherwise unknowns (at least unknowns to myself).

  16. The Liz Smith thread.

Of course as an American living in the United States (land of free catsup and sugar packets at McDonalds and Burger King), it seems necessary to tell that the name Liz Smith to me, meant the gossip purveyor not the British actor.

They are both similarly aged although ours here is the real Liz Smith.

Mary Elizabeth Smith was born in Fort Worth Texas in February 1923,

Betty Gleadle took the stage name of Liz Smith some time after her birth in December of 1921.

It would be most ideal, ideal indeed, if both of these nonagenarians were able to kick off this year and quite exciting and memorable too if they did it on the same day.

    One can only hope...

  17. WHO IS THIS GUY?

    THIS GUY SUCKS NOW

    NEVERH EARD OF HIMMMMMMMMMM

Yeah well rest eternally knowing he ain't ever heard of you either!

Al Molinaro was a decent actor. No, make that an adequate actor. No, make that a gifted actor. He retired from the stage a few years ago, stopped doing television, movies and plays in his early 70s.

There'll never be another Al Molinaro (except for people given that name at birth I suppose).

Remember him always from his time as Murray The Cop on the Odd Couple (New Years Day marathon of the show on a local channel here :) followed then after by a run as Al on the long running series Happy Days (which had its pilot done on the show Love American Style...although there was no Al in that episode)

Must say I am hoping sincerely that he can hang on until at least 2020. Something interestingly charming while at the same time occasionally frightening about a man once he makes it past 100.

For old times sake (and because I enjoy employing the multi-quote feature) I've reposted below the post I made earlier about Al,

After seeing how badly Erin Moran (Joanie Cupckae Cunninghamm) aged, maybe Molinaro was smarter than most......20 some thing years makes people look OLD.

Forgot to mention before, back in the summer of 1979 I saw a man who looked like Molinaro on the subway train one night. Ity was the shuttle train that ran from Times Square to Grand Central. He looked forlorn and sad just like on the show....don't know if it was him but it looked like him even had that huge nose. Remember how on The Odd Couple Felix or Oscar would open the latch over the peephole and Murray the cop (Molinaros cahracter on the show) would put his nose through? Loved the Odd Couple, wonder why it went off the air.

Still wonder why the Odd Couple was sent off into the land of former programs. It could have held on at least another decade or two.

  18. It surprised me some to see her name on the list as I was under the impression that Doris had sailed off a number of years ago. Maybe this is sort of a premonition thing going on and she will hasten to the cemetery posthaste!

  19. I was confused by the topic title since I didn't have any idea who this HuddlestonE person was. Then upon closer looking I realized it was a spelling error and the E should have been chopped.

Huddleston has long been a favorite actor of mine, appearing in many films and on many television programs. He's appeared in some of the same shows as dear old Uncle Wilfie, including The Waltons which ran for eons and just this year saw the passing of Papa Walton, who was nicely played by Ralph Waite.

On a side note, he has a son named Michael who it turns out is also an actor.

  20. Better late than never I suppose......

I was actually surprised, not by the death, after all, I sort of figured one day he might die, after all, many if not all people (and animals and plants as well as stars) do die eventually.

No, it was more of learning how surprisingly older than I thought he was that it turned out he was.

I won't say I was the biggest fan of his music, much of it didn't fully intrigue me or even register on the appeal meter, however he was a music icon and loved by many and for that I realize the music world....both performers and listeners, have lost someone that means/meant, a great deal to them. May he rest in eternal peace.
