The ones that I shall miss most Ruth Rendell Christopher Lee Lemmy All were still very active in providing us with entertainment.

Yes, I do hope that TMIB reconsiders the BBC obit situation. While I think it's fair enough to exclude obits on the county level, it doesn't seem right to ban those that appear in the home nation level. Who knows, it might not make any difference. We shall see as time goes on. We won't know, though. It may well have influenced people's selections.

When the data has been extracted and TMIB has had time to do it.

No idea, but I voted for Rene Angelil.

Is Cruijff the correct spelling? I always thought there was a y in it. Would that be an alternative way of writing the ij, or is it just for ignorant foreigners?

Anyone else hear George Orwell turning in his grave? I often hear that, it's only a few miles from my house He's buried in All Saints' Churchyard, Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire. http://www.all-saints-church.org.uk/history.php https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/The+Parish+Church+of+All+Saints'+Sutton+Courtenay/@51.6112457,-1.8744092,9z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x4876b8e5fb2b10ab:0x319a0175d630b2fc So is Herbert Henry Asquith, Prime Minister of the UK 1908-1916

The Pete Best of Monty Python? He was the chap who started off with what became the Python lot at uni, but swiftly decided academia was a better pursuit. They replaced him with a far more famous person: Gilliam perhaps? I'm not much of a Python buff. Think it was Graham Chapman who took his place. Buffery seems to have been in Twice A Fortnight, I've seen a clip of The Battle Of Hastings on YouTube but can't work out who he is, William The Conqueror's servant perhaps? Tony Buffery was my dad. He was replaced by Graham Chapman as he wanted to persue his career in Neuropsychology. He was a huge influence to what became the Pythons and Goodies. He was funny to the end. Died Boxing Day 2015. So sorry for your loss. Thank you for coming here to tell us more about your Dad. Do you know if there are any clips online featuring him?

Denies it's cancer https://twitter.com/JanetJacksonno smoke without fire (seems rather elaborate, you have yo go to the need of the video for the statement). And in the meantime she's on about getting to "The Great Forever".....

The current Coconuts are not the original ones either

Bugger. Four days too early for my new Rotten DP team.

Personally I wouldn't want an entry into my competition from someone who couldn't be arsed to press the first page button on the post. It takes about a minute to read through the rules - any attempt to build a bible is just going to become confused as games become defunct or are no longer updated (Canadian) new games are created (Shauns) and games have their rules ammended (DDP) Personally I think you've got a nerve claiming that "we got by fine without it for ten years" when you've only been here for two years. Most of these games have only been recently established. Oh, and your comment is noted. Feel free to withdraw my team from your game. I shan't trouble you again.

It was I who suggested a pinned thread to bring together the rules of all the various dead pool games. I still think this would be a useful point of reference, as the game threads often go quiet for a while. However, as it stands, the thread is just a scrap of conversation split off from another thread. It really needs reorganising with separate posts detailing the object and rules of each game. Perhaps the game runners could contribute a post each with the basic info and rules of their respective games? Mainly a cut-and-paste job, so not a big ask.

That video is going to be the best thing posted on DL this year! "my family and I decided it best that I take advantage of a relatively new technology called an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device), which if successful could extend my life expectancy by years." Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the LVAD three days later. Back to the drawing board. SC Not quite - that was posted last summer according to the article. Since he had been given an estimated 3 to 6 months in January last year, he did get another year.

No. No, they don't. I'm not likely to win the DDP these days (I did come third once, and briefly led the board for a short thrilling time ) but I would gain no satisfaction from doing well with such picks. There is still plenty of interest in playing with what I consider to be acceptable picks. I agree with Spade. I made 3-4 picks strictly for defensive purposes 'in case' a young person croaks, I'll be damned if I'm going to fall behind 10 points (see: John Bain). I have zero expectations of their deaths. But if you're playing to win you can't simply rely on your own data, you gotta give some respect to the hoi poloi. SC Pick whoever you like. I just said that nobody's forced to pick them. I will never pick anyone like Hassan wossname or that life-support girl.

Ah, but it's not the puddle they're watching, it's the perennial pastime of people-watching that's going on here. That said, this was the best one for me "I'll never let go, Jack" https://twitter.com/JonnyGabriel/status/684753255398785024

I heartily disapprove of the famous-for-being-ill picks, especially the ones that aren't even famous but just happen to become news stories because of their circumstances. There's something deeply unpleasant about picking such people, in my opinion. It's not what the game should be about.

Not her daughter, although Diski was taken in - basically off the streets- by Lessing in the early 1960s. Protegée is probably the word.

Never heard anything about it.

Is this really worth a thread?
