  1. How interesting, I never knew that. She's the mother-in-law of Richard Curtis as well. Good interview linked from wikipedia. There's always "Widow Shopping", but she's more noteworthy than that. Is there a thread for, say, "Muses and Inspirations"? I think that's a bit harsh. Given that he was known as Jack, and Lewis being a very common name, I think it's understandable that she didn't make the connection.

I guess he was too old to rock and roll, & wasn't too young to die. This was class.

Where do you recommend starting? I did try The Colour of Magic (is that the first one?) but soon gave up as it didn't grab me. I have heard that this isn't considered to be a good one.

    Deathrace 2014

I've only just seen this. As mentioned before, this thread for some reason never shows up in "View New Posts" for me, so I missed it. Congratulations to Death Impends, well done. And thanks again to MPFC for the game.

Dunno, that nationalism can be all the stronger because of that upbringing. I borrowed a tartan waiscoat from a "Scottish" mate who's lived in England his whole life but he's definitely a jock in everything from consuming scots products to willing them to thrash us at rugby. His dad was from Edinburgh, sort of the same thing as Rod. Princess Anne's always been a bit like that at the rugby. All on the strength of having a Scottish granny.

    Room Lovely, Look You.

Condolences, Lady G, and I do understand how a sad loss can bring happiness and pleasure in its wake. I have experienced something similar. Good luck in the days to come, you have already lost your Dad in many ways but it's still hard when all's done.

    Fat And Fearless

"Mr Martin, who lives with Tina and his other sister, Sharon, who has special needs" What, and he didn't have "special needs"? I suspect that mealy-mouthed PC phrase was far more appropriate and descriptive of his situation than of hers.

How does that work? Didn't we have a drawn out, highly-suspense-filled discussion of this in the spring where we found out you don't necessarily have to be dangling around to asphyxiate yourself with something tied around your neck? It may be slightly ropey science but I think we were all in accordance that it was possible. Yes, well, clearly it's possible. Gary Speed was another one, found sitting on the stairs wasn't he? It's just that I would have thought that the survival instinct would kick in and you wouldn't be able to resist slackening the pressure - which you obviously can't do if you've kicked away a chair or whatever. Like you can't kill yourself by holding your breath because your body takes over and forces you to breathe.

I don't watch that many films. The only one of his that I know I've seen is Dead Poets Society. As for TV, I can remember Mork and Mindy, but never watched it.

I preferred him when he was in Take That. Now he's loving angels instead. R.I.P Rob. No it's the actor who used to be in Mork and Mindy who's died not the Take That singer You don't get the style of humour on here, do you? Or maybe you do.

Indian born and bred, if the Punjab was in India then? Nae luck Dr Born, but not bred, I'm sure. Lot of British people lived and worked in India when it was a British dominion, with the result that a lot of them had children born there.
