    Seen Any Good Films Lately?

Know the feeling. For a start, Legolas wasn't in the book. That'll be because Tolkien hadn't thought him up yet. But his presence makes perfect sense. Whilst I could just about cope with the presence of Legolas as a marketing tool and a link to the LOTR films, the presence of Tauriel and her imagined interspecies romance with Kili is unforgivable. Tolkien does have elf/human marriages, so I suppose the possibility isn't that outrageous. Tauriel is a bit far-fetched as a character though, I agree. I mean, Captain of the Guard? I'd find her easier to accept if there were a few more female elf soldiers in evidence. Still, she's bound to come to a sticky end as there wasn't a sniff of her in LOTR.

Am I correct in thinking that this programme has little if anything to do with ships? I'm also moved to comment on the phrase "massive heart attack". Wouldn't plain "heart attack" suffice in these cases? I mean, if a person's cause of death is a heart attack I would assume that it wasn't a mild one.

I'd guess that it was a matter of the time taken for the doctors to conclude, and the family to accept, that there was no hope of recovery. I think that you are probably right.

Perhaps he was a big Only Fools and Horses Roger Lloyd Pack fan and last night was a tough read......... Fixed. The man was much more than a single comedy show.

Sympathising with the offender? where do you get that from? EGN and I are clearly on the same wavelength, we remember how things actually were then. If I'd been groped by DLT or his ilk, I'd probably have done him some minor damage with an elbow or knee at the time. Job done. I wouldn't be running to the police about it in 2013, that's for sure.

There may be more to come, of course, but I'm generally uneasy about hounding men for incidents thirty-odd years ago that just amount to groping, goosing, or copping a sly feel. This went on everywhere, and was never seen as "sexual assault" (which was something on another level). It was unpleasant*, but not a criminal offence. We dealt with these sleazebags by avoiding them, making withering comments or kneeing them in the nuts. Nowadays men know that this behaviour is not acceptable, but it was sort of tolerated back then. *unless you fancied the bloke, obv. Sometimes it was just a clumsy form of flirtation.

    Only Fools And Horses

He was great, wasn't he? Superb comic timing. One of my favourite lines was in the episode of Vicar Of Dibley when they were discussing the cost of replacing a stained glass window. "£11,000? Bugger me! You could have someone killed for that!"

Awesome performance from TMIB! will have a browse around. One unique for me, Caril Ann Fugate, bit of a long shot but I had read that her health wasn't great and being in a car crash that killed her husband probably won't have helped.

The comments are revealing: "got what she deserved", "what goes around comes around", "KARMA" etc People really don't get that everyone dies, do they? This woman has died an apparently rapid and painless death. Isn't that what almost everyone would hope for themselves?
