But what DLT is accused of seems to be little more than went on in any place of work or entertainment in the 70s and 80s. The office groper or dirty old man copping a sly feel, pinching your arse. Not nice, but tolerated by society at the time ("Just try and keep out of his way, dear"). The case should never have gone to court.

    Shaw Taylor

How many Channel 5 viewers even remember him or the original show?? I don't know about the original show but if they remembered how to use the remote control they wouldn't be watching Channel 5. It used to have the odd interesting non-imported show but since Dirty Desmond got his mitts on it there's hardly been a single original programme on there Well someone's going to look a little stupid after reading what I just found on Wikipedia: Was Shaw Taylor in any of those?

In the trade, these people are known as Twirlies. Because, clutching their bus passes, they say to the driver "Are we too early?"

Yes, I'm aware of the etymology. There's also nothing particularly sexual about the "phile" suffix, it merely denotes someone who enjoys or loves something. As with our own 'Bibliophile' - a lover of books. The literal meaning of 'paedophile' is simply someone who loves children. I'm more of a paedophobe myself.

Your interpretation may not be inaccurate, but please don't perpetuate the incorrect use of the term "paedophile". Paedos (sic) are sexually attracted to children - prepubescent children, not 15 year old girls. I believe Mr Sedaka is an American, and the legal age of consent varies between states. So the young lady in question might even be "illegal" at 17, depending on where she resided. It has naff all to do with paedophilia, though. Thank you for your clarification and I consider myself chastised but it might be helpful if you could do something about the whole of the British press who use the term almsot indiscriminately when talking about sexual allegations about celebrities. Got to start somewhere.

I actually agree with this. I've said it before, all notable deceased should be mentioned in the "Dead Of (year)" thread, regardless of whether they have a place in other threads. "The Dead Of ... " should be a comprehensive list.

  19. They might have a point. In the first flat I lived in, my bathroom had no windows, hence my extractor fan came on automatically every time you switched the light on. That in turn woke up the baby, therefore I used to pee in the dark. Turning the light on wakes me up more, so I prefer to leave it off in order to maintain my level of sleepiness so that I can sink comfortably back into slumber on my return.

    The Dead Of 2014

Can't find anything official yet, but seeing reports that Samantha Juste has died. She was the girl who played the records on early 'Top Of The Pops' and was once married to Micky Dolenz of The Monkees. Wikipedia says she "suffered a major stroke on the night of Sunday, February 2, 2014, while asleep and never recovered, passing away on February 5, 2014."

    Seen Any Good Films Lately?

Know the feeling. For a start, Legolas wasn't in the book. That'll be because Tolkien hadn't thought him up yet. But his presence makes perfect sense. Whilst I could just about cope with the presence of Legolas as a marketing tool and a link to the LOTR films, the presence of Tauriel and her imagined interspecies romance with Kili is unforgivable. Tolkien does have elf/human marriages, so I suppose the possibility isn't that outrageous. Tauriel is a bit far-fetched as a character though, I agree. I mean, Captain of the Guard? I'd find her easier to accept if there were a few more female elf soldiers in evidence. Still, she's bound to come to a sticky end as there wasn't a sniff of her in LOTR.
