Dead George Michael, Innit Peeps
Toast replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList Forum
Aw, it's a really nice message from the family though. https://www.georgemichael.com/ -
There are long-running threads on Digital Spy about good and bad buys at Aldi and Lidl respectively. There seems to be a bit of a theme with Aldi that a given product changes radically, or the quality deteriorates.

DL Status Updates: Statements, Obsevations & Verbal Tennis
Toast replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I had a similar experience when buying a petrol cap for my lawnmower. The cap arrived, and although it was exactly as shown, right size, it did not fit because the thread was not the same. I contacted the seller* and never heard another word. Even though I returned the item. Nada. Complained to Ebay, and they refunded me without any drama. *lawnmowersparesukltd https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/lawnmowersparesukltd I had much better luck with garden-hire-spares who were most cooperative. https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/garden-hire-spares -
That one on the right translates as "Newcastle Pope". I've always found that amusing.

Newsbeat. See, there's another anomaly with the DDP accepting the BBC's teenagers section as QO, but not grown-up news from Scotland, Wales etc. Anyway, this TotalBiscuit bloke. I assume his illness involves his digestive system? He sounds like quite a tough cookie.

A senior royal source has told how Prince Philip has taken to referring to Meghan as "the Dow". It stands for Duchess of Windsor, the former Wallis Simpson, whose affair with Edward VIII nearly destroyed the Royal Family. https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/952400/lady-Gabriella-ex-boyfriend-kensington-palace-aatish-taseer

Next Unexpected "national Treasure" Death
Toast replied to Sean's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
No! Be honest now - would you prefer to be interned this afternoon, or interred? We have the luxury of a huge vocabulary enabling us to describe exactly what we mean, and avoid ambiguity. I hate to see the meanings of words eroded in this way. We are the poorer for it. -

Interment ! Not internment ! I can't believe how many people get this wrong, people who really should know better. I'm going to start a Society for the Protection of the Word Interment, because it seems to be in danger of going extinct. -

"This could be an easy year with a lot of achievements if you can get out of your own way and let the magic happen. This applies especially to family and very close friends who may have different ideas. Without getting giddy or extravagant, you can be playful and creative in August. Let a new big idea or plan turn your head around in January. Find practical ways to explore the most unexpected projects, which might show profit next year. Have faith in yourself and the world. Enjoy a year full of blessings! " https://www.horoscope.com/us/horoscopes/general/horoscope-general-birthday.aspx -

Been To Any Good Gigs Lately?

Saw Bryan Ferry last night. On the whole it was enjoyable but marred by the WALL OF NOISE coming from the - I can't call it a band, it's an assortment of musicians. Just too loud and they all but drowned Bryan out on most of the songs. I suppose it's to disguise the fact that his voice isn't what it was in 1980, but it's not so bad. Music was so overpowering that it sucked all the atmosphere out of moody songs like 'Avalon' . Next up - Rolling Stones -

Who? -
Anyone can call themselves any name they like - it doesn't have to be a name they were registered with. As for using a different regnal name, that's very much the exception rather than the rule. Bertie chose to reign as George VI to give the illusion of continuity after the abdication. Edward VII did not want to use his first name of Albert because it was his father's name. Victoria dropped her first name Alexandrina. I think these are the only ones who have not used their first names. I think most of Victoria's children and grandchildren had Albert or Victoria shoehorned into their names. Some of them probably felt those names were a burden.

All of these (except for Diana) are names recently if not perennially popular with the English middle to upper classes, so I don't think it implies anything about Kate not having a say. Kate and her siblings all have similarly classic names that occur in the BRF: Catherine Elizabeth, Philippa Charlotte, James William. She might not like any of those names, and none of them are very fashionable right now. As for three names instead of four, perhaps that reflects the 'slimming down' of the RF. Three names is more than enough for anyone really, isn't it. They must really like Louis.
